Abstract

A paper machine having a double-felted first press nip and a double-clothed second press nip adapted to permit variable positions for press members. The first press nip has a suction zone partially downstream of the press nip, the top felt separating from the bottom felt before the downstream end. The bottom felt then carries the web to the second press, a top felt carrying it to the second extended press nip. A pickup suction roll, arranged in the top felt loop, transfers the web from the first press bottom felt to the second press top felt. The latter bottom felt leaves the suction roll at the downstream end of the suction zone and has suction boxes before the web transfer to the top felt of the second press. Heat-supply devices are arranged outside the two top felts on opposite web sides.
