Abstract
A cleaning implement with a handle and a removable cleaning pad can be used to effectively clean surfaces. The cleaning pad is impregnated with an acidic cleaning composition. The cleaning pad may be dry to the touch. The cleaning implement may be a manual tool or a motorized tool. Examples of suitable cleaning implements include a hard surface floor mop, a carpet mop, an auto cleaning device, a toilet cleaning device, a bathroom cleaning device, and a shower cleaning device.
Claims (64)
1. A cleaning implement comprising:
a. a handle; and a. a removable cleaning pad comprising:
i. 25 to 84% of a substrate selected from a group consisting of water-insoluble substrates, water-soluble substrates, and water-dispersible substrates, and combinations thereof; and ii. 16 to 75% of a cleaning composition impregnated in said substrate; wherein said cleaning composition comprises:
1. 0 to 60% of an anionic surfactant;
a. a handle; and a. a removable cleaning pad comprising:
i. 25 to 84% of a substrate selected from a group consisting of water-insoluble substrates, water-soluble substrates, and water-dispersible substrates, and combinations thereof; and ii. 16 to 75% of a cleaning composition impregnated in said substrate; wherein said cleaning composition comprises:
1. 0 to 60% of an anionic surfactant;
2. 0 to 60% of a nonionic surfactant; and
3. 1 to 60% of a carboxylic acid selected from a group consisting of sulfamic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, and combinations thereof; wherein said composition contains less than about 85% water.
2. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 2% of said carboxylic acid.
3. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises less than about 2% organic solvent.
2. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 2% of said carboxylic acid.
3. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises less than about 2% organic solvent.
4. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises less than about 2% organic solvent having a boiling point less than 100° C at 1 atm pressure.
5. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 0.5% fragrance or essential oil.
6. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning pad is substantially dry-to-the-touch.
7. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises a dye that is visible in said cleaning pad when said cleaning pad is unused and said dye substantially decreases in visibility during use.
8. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition has a pH of about 4 or lower.
9. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition has antimicrobial efficacy selected from a group consisting of sanitizing, disinfecting and a combination thereof.
10. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition has effervescent activity when combined with water.
11. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition comprises bleaching actives.
12. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said substrate is water-insoluble.
13. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said substrate is water-dispersible.
14. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said substrate comprises 2 or more layers.
15. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said substrate comprises 3 or more layers.
16. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1 % of said anionic surfactant.
17. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said anionic surfactant comprises alkyl sulfate.
18. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 1 % of said nonionic surfactant.
19. The cleaning implement of claim 18, wherein said nonionic surfactant comprises alkyl polyglycoside.
20. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 5% of said nonionic surfactant.
21. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 10% of said nonionic surfactant.
22. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises less than about 2% organic solvent.
23. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises less than about 2% organic solvent having a boiling point less than 100° C at 1 atm pressure.
24. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 0.5% fragrance or essential oil.
25. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition is dry-to-the-touch.
26. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition has antimicrobial efficacy selected from a group consisting of sanitizing, disinfecting and a combination thereof.
27. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition has effervescent activity when combined with water.
28. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises bleaching actives.
29. The cleaning implement of claim 16, wherein said cleaning composition comprises a dye that is visible in said cleaning pad when said cleaning pad is unused and said dye substantially decreases in visibility during use.
30. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 2% of said anionic surfactant.
31. The cleaning implement of claim 30, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said nonionic surfactant.
32. The cleaning implement of claim 30, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 5% of said nonionic surfactant.
33. The cleaning implement of claim 30, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 10% of said nonionic surfactant.
34. The cleaning implement of claim 2, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 5% of said anionic surfactant.
35. The cleaning implement of claim 34, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said nonionic surfactant.
36. The cleaning implement of claim 34, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 5% of said nonionic surfactant.
37. The cleaning implement of claim 34, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 10% of said nonionic surfactant.
38. The cleaning implement of claim 1, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 5% of said carboxylic acid.
39. The cleaning implement of claim 38, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 1% of said anionic surfactant.
40. The cleaning implement of claim 39, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 1% of said nonionic surfactant.
41. The cleaning implement of claim 39, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 5% of said nonionic surfactant.
42. The cleaning implement of claim 39, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 10% of said nonionic surfactant.
43. The cleaning implement of claim 38, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 2% of said anionic surfactant.
44. The cleaning implement of claim 43, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 1% of said nonionic surfactant.
45. The cleaning implement of claim 43, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 5% of said nonionic surfactant.
46. The cleaning implement of claim 43, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than 10% of said nonionic surfactant.
47. A process of cleaning a shower using a cleaning implement with a disposable substrate impregnated with a cleaning composition comprising the steps of:
a. attaching said disposable substrate impregnated with said cleaning composition to said cleaning implement;
b. wetting the surface of said disposable substrate;
c. scrubbing the surface of said shower;
d. optionally, rewetting said disposable substrate; and e. optionally, rinsing the surface of said shower.

48. The process of claim 47, wherein said cleaning implement is a manual cleaning implement.
49. The process of claim 47, wherein said cleaning implement is a motorized cleaning implement.
50. The process of claim 47, wherein said cleaning composition has a pH of about 4 or lower.
51. The process of claim 47, wherein said cleaning composition has antimicrobial efficacy selected from a group consisting of sanitizing, disinfecting and a combination thereof.
52. The process of claim 47, wherein said substrate comprises 2 or more layers.
53. The process of claim 47, wherein said substrate comprises 3 or more layers.
54. The process of claim 47, wherein said cleaning composition comprises:
a. 0 to 60% of an anionic surfactant;
b. 0 to 60% of a nonionic surfactant; and c. 1 to 60% of a carboxylic acid selected from a group consisting of sulfamic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid.

b. 0 to 60% of a nonionic surfactant; and c. 1 to 60% of a carboxylic acid selected from a group consisting of sulfamic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid.
55. The process of claim 54, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 2% of said carboxylic acid.
56. The process of claim 55, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said anionic surfactant.
57. The process of claim 54, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 3% of said carboxylic acid.
58. The process of claim 57, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said anionic surfactant.
59. The process of claim 54, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 4% of said carboxylic acid.
60. The process of claim 59, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said anionic surfactant.
61. The process of claim 54, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 5% of said carboxylic acid.
62. The process of claim 61, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said anionic surfactant.
63. The process of claim 54, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 10% of said carboxylic acid.
64. The process of claim 63, wherein said cleaning composition comprises greater than about 1% of said anionic surfactant.
