Abstract

A hand-held radiation detection probe is disclosed for use in detecting radiation emitted from a radiation emitting substance in a patient's body, said probe having a removable protective cover thereover to protect said probe from contamination during storage or use. The probe further includes a handle and a switch assembly. The cover covers the handle and the switch assembly is removably mounted onto the handle over the cover.

Claims (6)

1. A hand-held radiation detection probe for use in detecting radiation emitted from a radiation emitting substance in a patient's body, said probe having a removable protective cover thereover to protect said probe from contamination during storage or use.
2. The probe of claim 1, wherein said cover permits said probe to be re-used without prior sterilization.
3. The probe of claim 1, wherein said probe is elongated, and has a detector at one end and a handle at the other end, and said cover is a flexible sheath closed at one end about said detector and said cover is open at its opposed end beyond said handle.
4. The probe of claim 1, wherein said cover is a drape.
5. The probe of claim 1, wherein said probe has a handle, and wherein said cover covers said handle and switch assembly is removably mounted onto said handle over said cover.
6. The probe of claim 3, wherein said sheath covers said handle, and a switch assembly is removably mounted onto said handle over said sheath.
