随着电子和计算机技术持续发展,对用户的信息通讯一直变得日益重要。例如,和以往相比现在的个人数字助理(PDA)用户要不断地查看电子邮件、查询联系人、在行进中起草文档和制定时间表。其它用户使用具有内置PDA的移动电话。除了这些新设备以外,越来越多的用户使用平板PC和笔记本电脑。功能强大的计算设备的移动性使它们对于商务旅行者来说非常理想。现在将描述用于移动设备的一般计算系统。
A.计算系统

B.计算系统状态图
图2显示了计算系统100的现有技术状态图。在高级配置和功率接口(ACPI)规范(修订版本2.0a,2002年3月31日,由Compaq计算机公司、Intel公司、Microsoft公司、Phoenix Technologies有限公司和Toshiba公司联合发布)中可发现图2中所观察到的运行状态的实施例。尽管ACPI规范被认为描述了大量现存的计算系统,但是应该承认大量并不符合ACPI规范的计算系统仍然可以符合图2中所观察到的运行状态配置。如此,图1的描述与ACPI规范所符合的更一般的描述相对应。

揭示了一种用于用户与移动计算设备接口的方法和装置。在一个实施例中,一种方法包括在与具有主显示器的移动计算设备相连的用户界面上提供信息,其中移动计算设备可在多个功率状态中运行,并且用户界面并不包含主显示器。
在下面的描述中,为了解释目的,阐明了具体的术语以提供对本发明的透彻理解。但是,对本领域技术人员而言,为了实践本发明这些具体细节显然不是必须要求的。

因而,参照图5和6A,“正常开启”状态501与标准“正常开启”状态相对应,其中计算系统是运行的并且其所有主结构组件从401到4081-N都是电源开启的。结果,计算系统可被视为处于“高功率”状态,因为其主结构组件都在消耗功率。另外,在处于高功率“正常开启”状态501期间,低功率图形控制器409和低功率用户界面(UI)410是被加电源的。低功率图形控制器409控制低功率UI410,其中UI410可以是像显示器411这样的显示器,也可包括像上面讨论过的轻推调节器、开关和麦克风。尽管低功率控制器409被显示为分立的组件,但是它可以被集成到图形控制器405中。“正常开启”状态的另一个特征是用户可以独立于其它系统组件而单独开启或关闭控制器409和UI410。

参照图5和6B,“基于主CPU/OS的低功率”状态504与主CPU401电源开启并可执行软件的状态相对应;主结构组件(值得注意的是图形控制器405、显示器406和各种I/O单元4082到408N)的电源关闭使得功率消耗减小了。此外,主CPU401本身,尽管是在起作用的,但是可被配置为与正常开启状态501相比性能降低、功耗降低的状态。在一个实施例中,做到这一点至少要通过降低与“正常开启”状态501相比的主CPU时钟速度的频率。结果,主CPU减小了处理速度,但是消耗更少的功率。

在正常开启状态501和低功率状态504中,为用户提供了附加的功能,如果用户是移动的,则该功能特别有用。通过使用包括显示器、轻推调节器、开关和麦克风的任何组合的UI410,用户可以在系统的盖子闭合的同时存取有用的数据。通过使用UI410,用户可在显示器上翻看菜单,会看到经常使用的数据,比如日历、日期簿、联系方式、地址、电话号码、提醒簿、电子邮件消息、页面以及像销售信息或定价数据库这样的企业数据。UI410可以是具有便于用户输入的触摸屏的集成式个人数字助理(PDA)。
另外,UI410可用于控制移动计算设备的某些功能。例如,用户可以翻看菜单到某一音乐功能,在该功能中他们可选择和播放MPS文件;或要求邮件系统与企业数据库同步。UI410规定所有的控制和输出必须运行这些特征,与此同时盖子是合上的并且计算设备是移动的。
参照图5和6C,“基于没有主CPU/OS的更低功率”状态305所对应的是主CPU401电源关闭的状态,使得它不能基于计算系统的主操作系统执行软件。注意到高速缓冲存储器402、系统存储器404以及至少存储器控制器和桥接器单元403的存储器控制器部分也都可以关闭电源(因为它们很大程度上支持主CPU401的努力去执行软件)。因为主CPU是未激活的并且并不执行主OS,还因为主CPU401及其支持结构的组件402、403、404是电源关闭的,所以状态305同时是“基于没有主CPU/OS的”(即,状态305中所执行的有用的功能并不包括在主CPU401上执行计算系统的OS)和与状态301和304相比“更低功率的”。因此,状态305可称为“基于没有主CPU/OS的更低功率”状态。
在更低功率状态505中,无线I/O 4081仍然是电源开启的,尽管低功率控制器409和UI410不再是电源开启的。无线I/O 4081可以使用许多长程和/或短程协议。
长程无线标准是可利用的和可定义的,而与此同时邻近的以及甚至位于同一地点的设备之间的邻近使用需要短程无线标准的开发。

在向所述用户界面提供所述信息的同时,在低功率状态下操作所述移动计算设备。

在以无线方式向所述用户界面提供所述信息的同时,在较低的功率状态下操作所述移动计算设备。
5.如权利要求1所述的方法,还包括:
从所述用户界面接收命令,其中所述用户界面至少包括麦克风、开关、轻推调节器、副显示器和耳机中的一种。
6.如权利要求2所述的方法,还包括:
从所述用户界面接收命令,其中所述用户界面至少包括麦克风、开关、轻推调节器、副显示器和耳机中的一种。
7.如权利要求1所述的方法,还包括从无线网络接收所述信息。
8.如权利要求2所述的方法,其特征在于,所述用户界面是手机和个人数字助理之一。
9.在其上存储有多个指令的计算机可读介质,所述多个指令在由计算机执行时,使所述计算机执行:
在与具有主显示器的移动计算设备相连的用户界面上提供信息,其中所述移动计算设备可在多个功率状态下运行,并且所述用户界面并不包括所述主显示器。
10.如权利要求9所述的计算机可读介质,其特征在于,所述用户界面以无线方式与所述移动计算设备相连。
11.如权利要求9所述的计算机可读介质,已在其上存储了附加的指令,所述附加的指令在由计算机执行时,使所述计算机进一步执行:
在向所述用户界面提供所述信息的同时,在低功率状态下操作所述移动计算设备。
12.如权利要求10所述的计算机可读介质,已在其上存储了附加的指令,所述附加的指令在由计算机执行时,使所述计算机进一步执行:
在以无线方式向所述用户界面提供所述信息的同时,在较低的功率状态中操作所述移动计算设备。
13.如权利要求9所述的计算机可读介质,已在其上存储了附加的指令,所述附加的指令在由计算机执行时,使所述计算机进一步执行:
从所述用户界面接收命令,其中所述用户界面至少包括麦克风、开关、轻推调节器、副显示器和耳机中的一种。
14.如权利要求10所述的计算机可读介质,已在其上存储了附加的指令,所述附加的指令在由计算机执行时,使所述计算机进一步执行:
从所述用户界面接收命令,其中所述用户界面至少包括麦克风、开关、轻推调节器、副显示器和耳机中的一种。
15.如权利要求9所述的计算机可读介质,已在其上存储了附加的指令,所述附加的指令在由计算机执行时,使所述计算机进一步执行:
从无线网络接收所述信息。
16.如权利要求10所述的计算机可读介质,其特征在于,所述用户界面是手机和个人数字助理中的一种。
17.一种装置,包括:
CPU;
与所述CPU相连的存储器控制器;
与所述存储器控制器相连的主显示器;以及
与所述存储器控制器相连的用户界面,
其中所述的CPU、存储器控制器和主显示器在多个状态下运行。
18.如权利要求17所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面以无线方式与所述移动计算设备相连。
19.如权利要求17所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面在所述CPU在低功率状态下运行的同时接收信息。
20.如权利要求17所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面在所述CPU在较低的功率状态下运行的同时以无线方式接收信息。
21.如权利要求17所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面至少包括麦克风、开关、轻推调节器、副显示器和耳机中的一种。
22.如权利要求18所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面至少包括麦克风、开关、轻推调节器、副显示器和耳机中的一种。
23.如权利要求17所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面从无线网络接收信息。
24.如权利要求18所述的装置,其特征在于,所述用户界面是手机和个人数字助理之一。
25.如权利要求21所述的装置,还包括与所述主显示器相连的底板,其中所述副显示器位于所述底板上。
26.如权利要求21所述的装置,还包括与所述主显示器垂直相连的侧板,其中所述副显示器位于所述侧板上。
27.如权利要求21所述的装置,其特征在于,所述副显示器是LCD和等离子显示器之一。
28.如权利要求21所述的装置,其特征在于,所述副显示器比所述主显示器更小。
29.如权利要求21所述的装置,还包括与一个或多个无线协议兼容的无线收发器,其中所述无线协议包括802.11HR、802.11b和802.11a、802.11g、蓝牙、HiperLan、HiperLan II、HomeRF、SWAP和OpenAir。
