在某些实施例中，当用户在观看某一个节目时启动记录操作时，交互式电视应用程序确定用户的设备没有足够的用于进行记录的资源，交互式电视应用程序可以自动地指示网络记录设备执行记录操作。通过这样做，用户可以获得不中断的观看体验。或者，交互式电视应用程序可以提示用户发出利用网络记录设备执行记录操作的指令，或使资源被释放出来，可以用来本地执行记录操作。
除将请求传输到网络记录设备之外，交互式电视应用程序还可以取消网络记录设备执行的本地记录操作。或者，不是取消本地记录操作，在传输节目之前有资源变得可用的情况下，交互式电视应用程序可以暂停本地记录操作。如果有资源确实可用于执行记录操作，则交互式电视应用程序可以取消利用网络记录设备执行的记录操作，并消除节目的本地记录操作的暂停。

通知600包括描述部分602和列表610。描述部分602向用户指出了用户的设备没有足够的资源，不能记录最初预定的所有节目。在某些实施例中，描述部分可以包括缺乏哪一种资源的指示(例如，没有足够的调谐器可用或没有的足够空间)。描述部分610提示用户选择要利用用户的设备本地记录两个节目。描述部分610还提示用户选择要利用网络记录设备记录的节目。在某些实施例中，描述部分也可以描述默认操作。
列表610包括节目名称、频道号和传输时间。列表可以包括任何其他合适的信息，包括，例如，频道名称、传输日期、演员、简要描述，或任何其他合适的信息。用户可以通过利用用户输入设备116控制突出显示的区域612来选择列表。为选择要利用用户的设备记录的节目，用户可以突出显示与节目关联的列表，并选择“本地记录”选项(例如，按钮616)。类似地，为选择要利用网络记录设备记录的节目，用户可以突出显示与节目关联的列表，并选择“远程记录”选项(例如，按钮618)。

在某些实施例中，运营网络记录设备的服务提供商可以对网络记录设备代表用户执行的每一次记录操作收费。作为另一个示例，网络记录设备还可以对于无限制的记录操作，或对于执行一定数量的记录操作，收取每天的、每周的或每个月的费用。作为再一个示例，用户可以使用的网络记录设备上的空间量可以取决于由用户购买的服务等级(例如，白银会员、黄金会员)。购买了用户最高等级服务的用户可以比购买了最低等级服务的用户利用网络记录设备执行更多记录操作。
当用户已经超过了分配给他的空间量时，交互式电视应用程序可以提示用户提供从服务提供商那里购买网络记录设备上的更多存储空间所需的个人信息(例如，较高等级服务)。作为响应，用户可以输入PIN或其他信息以完成购买。一旦完成了购买，服务提供商就可以向用户释放额外的空间。
交互式电视应用程序可以为用户显示记录的节目菜单，以观看由用户的设备和网络记录设备执行的记录操作。一个这样的菜单是如图8所示的菜单800，用户可以通过按下“记录的节目菜单”键或键顺序，从另一个交互式电视应用程序屏幕(例如，使用用户输入设备116，从交互式电视应用程序屏幕中选择“记录的节目菜单”选项)，或通过任何其他合适的方法，来访问该菜单。菜单800包括记录的节目列表802、详细信息部分804和视频窗口806。列表802包括节目长度、节目标题802、频道号。列表可以包括任何其他合适的信息。

然而，如果利用网络记录设备记录了所选节目，则网络记录设备可以向交互式电视应用程序传输节目，为进行本地播放作准备。例如，响应播放节目的请求，网络记录设备可以作为视频点播节目提供向用户提供节目，并作为流将节目传输到用户的设备。作为另一个示例，网络记录器可以将节目传输到用户的设备，以便交互式电视应用程序在本地播放节目(假设用户的设备具有足够的资源用于接收节目)。

在2005年11月4日提出的标题为“SYSTEMS ANDMETHODS FOR RECORDING PROGRAMS WITHA NETWORKRECORDING DEVICE UPON FAILURE OF A USER′SEQUIPMENT”的共同拥有的美国专利申请No.____中描述了网络记录设备和用户的设备的组合的其他用法，这里引用了该申请作为参考。

1.一种使用用户的设备和网络记录设备来记录节目的方法，包括：
确定进行记录是否将超过所述用户的设备的资源；以及
响应确定进行所述记录将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源的情况，利用所述网络记录设备进行所述记录。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中，所述资源包括用于进行记录的调谐器和空间。

4.根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中，确定进行记录是否将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源的过程包括确定执行多个记录操作是否将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源，所述方法进一步包括：
响应确定执行多个记录操作将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源的情况，选择所述多个记录操作中的至少一个记录操作的第一组和所述多个记录操作中的至少一个记录操作的第二组；以及
利用所述用户的设备执行所述选择的第一组记录操作，并利用所述网络记录设备执行所述选择的第二组记录操作。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法，其中，选择所述第一和第二组记录操作的过程包括接收用于包含在所述第一或第二组记录操作中的至少一个记录操作的用户选择。
6.根据权利要求4所述的方法，其中，选择所述第一或第二组记录操作的过程包括基于一个或多个判别条件，自动地选择用于包含在所述第一或第二组中的至少一个记录操作。
7.根据权利要求6所述的方法，其中，所述一个或多个判别条件是记录优先级、节目属性，以及是否已经利用所述网络记录设备执行了所述记录操作中的至少一个。
8.根据权利要求6所述的方法，进一步包括：
从所述网络记录设备接收所述网络记录设备已经执行的记录的列表；
将从所述网络记录设备接收到的所述列表与被选择为利用所述用户的设备执行的记录进行比较；以及
指示所述网络记录设备保留所述网络记录设备已经执行的被选择为利用所述用户的设备执行的记录。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法，进一步包括：
接收用户的播放利用所述网络记录设备记录的节目的请求；
在所述用户的设备从所述网络记录设备接收请求的节目，作为视频点播节目提供；以及
在所述用户的设备中，播放所述节目。
10.根据权利要求1所述的方法，进一步包括：
将最初利用所述网络记录设备执行的记录操作传输到所述用户的设备；以及
从所述网络记录设备中删除所述传输的记录。
11.根据权利要求10所述的方法，进一步包括：
确定所述用户的设备是否具有足够的资源用于接收所述记录；以及
其中，将所述记录传输到所述用户的设备的过程包括，响应确定所述用户的设备具有足够的资源用于接收所述记录的情况，将所述记录传输到所述用户的设备。
12.根据权利要求1所述的方法，进一步包括接收购买所述网络记录设备中的空间的用户指令，用于进行所述记录。
13.一种使用用户的设备和网络记录设备来记录节目的方法，包括：
从所述用户的设备接收进行将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源的记录的指令；以及
响应接收到所述指令的情况，利用所述网络记录设备进行所述记录。
14.根据权利要求13所述的方法，进一步包括：
从所述用户的设备接收播放利用所述网络记录设备记录的节目的请求；以及
向所述用户的设备提供所述节目。
15.根据权利要求14所述的方法，其中，向所述用户的设备提供所述节目的过程包括向所述用户的设备提供所述节目作为视频点播节目提供。
16.一种用于记录节目的系统，所述系统包括用户的设备、网络记录设备和控制电路，所述控制电路被配置为：
确定进行记录是否将超过所述用户的设备的资源；以及
响应确定进行所述记录将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源的情况，指示所述网络记录设备进行所述记录。
17.根据权利要求16所述的系统，其中，所述资源包括用于进行记录的调谐器和空间。
18.根据权利要求16所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路是进一步被配置为：
确定所述用户的设备是否具有足够的资源来进行所述记录；以及
响应确定所述用户的设备具有足够的资源进行所述记录的情况，指示所述网络记录设备取消进行所述记录，并指示所述用户的设备进行所述记录。
19.根据权利要求16所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路是进一步被配置为：
确定进行多个记录操作是否将超过所述用户的设备的资源；
响应确定执行多个记录操作将超过所述用户的设备的所述资源的情况，选择所述多个记录操作中的至少一个记录操作的第一组和所述多个记录操作中的至少一个记录操作的第二组；以及
指示所述用户的设备执行所述选择的第一组记录操作，并指示所述网络记录设备执行所述选择的第二组记录操作。
20.根据权利要求19所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路进一步被配置为接收用于包含在所述第一或第二组记录操作中的至少一个记录操作的用户选择。
21.根据权利要求19所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路进一步被配置为基于一个或多个判别条件，自动地选择用于包含在所述第一或第二组中的至少一个记录操作。
22.根据权利要求21所述的系统，其中，所述一个或多个判别条件是记录优先级、节目属性，以及是否已经利用所述网络记录设备执行了所述记录操作中的至少一个。
23.根据权利要求16所述的系统进一步包括显示适配器，其中，所述控制电路进一步被配置为：
接收用户的播放利用所述网络记录设备记录的节目的请求；
在所述用户的设备从所述网络记录设备接收请求的节目，作为视频点播节目提供；以及
指示所述显示适配器在所述用户的设备上输出所述节目。
24.根据权利要求16所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路是进一步被配置为：
将最初利用所述网络记录设备执行的记录操作传输到所述用户的设备；以及
从所述网络记录设备中删除所述传输的记录。
25.根据权利要求24所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路是进一步被配置为：
确定所述用户的设备是否具有足够的资源用于接收所述记录；以及
响应确定所述用户的设备具有足够的资源用于接收所述记录的情况，将所述记录传输到所述用户的设备。
26.根据权利要求16所述的系统，其中，所述控制电路进一步被配置为接收购买所述网络记录设备中的空间以执行所述记录操作的用户指令。
