Description

KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL

PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.

The invention relates to an artificial ankle. According to the invention is a The spring connecting the lower leg to the foot as a replacement for an axle or ball joint provided, which enables all-round mobility of the foot.

Diese Feder muß in ihrer Stärke so bemessen sein, daß sie zugleich in der Lage ist, die in Betracht kommende Belastung desThe strength of this spring must be such that it is also capable of the relevant load of the

ίο Fußes aufzunehmen. Die Form und Art der Feder kann beliebig gewählt sein.ίο pick up on foot. The form and type of Any spring can be chosen.

In the drawing, four different embodiments are shown in section.
Fig. Ι shows an example in which the joint by a in a housing f made of felt ο. Like. Housed, gradually widening downward, after a spiral spiral spring α is formed, which is expediently wound and bent in such a way that it adapts as much as possible to the natural shape of the foot. They can be attached either, as shown, to a central support b held in the form of a stilt or directly to a solid foot part. In both cases, however, provision should be made to ensure that support is provided for the spring α when a certain maximum load is exceeded. This task can expediently take over the freely protruding downward end of the stilt provided with a suitable cushion c.

Fig. 2 shows an example in which an identically shaped spring α is arranged in a different way. A special toe spring system ζ is also provided, and a special buffer -p made of felt, rubber or the like limits the forward movement of the joint.

■The third example, also shown in a vertical section in FIG. 3, uses a double spiral spring a, a. Both springs are wound in one piece so that one rests within the other. The free ends of the springs are expediently attached to the stilt b at two points somewhat distant from one another, and the spring can be given a certain tension at the same time, which is equivalent to a partial load. ■

In the last example shown in vertical section in Fig. 4, leaf springs d, similar to the known suspension springs for trolleys, are used, and the attachment can also be made either to the solid foot part g or to the end of a stilt.

Gehens ersetzt. In this example, in addition to the spring d which absorbs the load through the mediation of ball and heel cushions i, k and forms the joint, a second leaf spring h can also be provided, which also has a cushion and replaces the resistance formed by the toes during walking .
