Abstract

The arrangement includes a wide band source (18) of light/ radiation and a number of detectors (22,24,28,30) sensitive to different frequencies/wavelengths. In particular, the outputs from the detectors (22,24,28,30) are compared with threshold values defining permissible gas concentrations in the gas mixture. A state/condition signal (96) is generated following the comparison of bit samples (72) with reference bit samples (84a,84b). In particular, the detectors are located in such a way that the intensity of received radiation is constant. Reference bit samples (78,80,82) are kept in batches for differing gas mixtures. USE - Analysis of gas mixture, and initiation of alarm conditions in buildings esp. factories, computer installations, etc.

Description

The invention relates to a method for recognizing Dangerous conditions in a room, the composition tion of a gas mixture is analyzed in that the gas mixture of a broadband radiation Radiation source exposed and by the Gasge mixed radiation from several detectors ren is detected in different wavelength ranges.

Such a method is used to mix mixtures of Gases that are dangerous for people, animals or things are recognizable. Known methods use this Analyzers that, for example, the different Different thermal conductivity or absorbency exploit their gases. For example, the test for carbon dioxide (flue gas test) ver reduction in the thermal conductivity of the gas mixture increasing concentration of carbon dioxide gas in air  evaluated. The resistance value of a Heating wire measured, which is washed by the gas mixture. With a certain electrical power supplied the temperature of the heating wire increases if as a result reduced thermal conductivity from the heating wire its surrounding heat energy decreases. These Temperature increase is expressed in the resistance value, the This change is a measure of the carbon dioxide concentration is in the gas mixture.

Other methods use the absorbency tuned gases for infrared radiation for gas analysis. The air sample taken from the room air with the infrared radiation-absorbing gas fractions heat up a higher temperature value than a ver same sample without such gas components. From the tempera Door increase can then be based on the presence of a agreed gas in the gas mixture to be closed.

When monitoring fire or explosions rooms at risk, such as electrical ones Control rooms, control cabinets or storage rooms with dangerous materials, there is the problem, the existence be gaseous fission products, for example, by thermal stress due to solar radiation or Fire can start, even at low concentrations to identify countermeasures at an early stage guide before teasing with these fission products The gas mixture reaches a critical state. You want to be able to see dangerous developments before e.g. a fire or other disaster breaks to take appropriate countermeasures in good time to be able to.

The above-mentioned methods react only to a minor extent Selectivity to various gas components and  require very constant environmental conditions zen that are generally not found. A he The main disadvantage is the slow measurement process for determining the composition of the gas mixture, since thermal compensation processes in each case must be waited until a stable and reliable analytical result is available. An early he is aware of dangerous conditions with this procedure not possible.

It is an object of the invention, a new method and to provide a device for its implementation, the with simple means a fast and reliable Detection of dangerous conditions with high selectivity for different gas components.

This task is for a procedure mentioned at the beginning solved in that the output signals of the detectors are compared with predetermined threshold values which each a certain gas concentration in the gas ge are assigned to mix, where as a comparison result Bit pattern is generated that multiple reference bit patterns be provided, the compositions of the gas define mixtures, depending on the comparison of the generated bit pattern with the reference bit patterns Status signal is output that indicates the dangerous state indicates.

The invention is based on the knowledge that any gas has a characteristic wavelength range, in which it can absorb radiation. If now a beam the gas mixture with a broadband spectrum interspersed, it is characteristic of the gases each wavelength ranges at the location of the detectors because the radiation power is reduced if it corresponds Gas components are contained in the gas mixture. The radiation power received by a detector reproduced in its output signal. The absorbed  Radiant power and thus the amplitude of this Output signal depends on the concentration of the Gases in the gas mixture.

By using several detectors, the Radiation in several wavelength ranges or Ab sorption bands can be evaluated simultaneously. There the method used has a high selectivity for different gases and it can be in one complex measuring process for certain dangerous conditions characteristic compositions of the gas mixture can be analyzed with different gases. The If certain gas concentrations are exceeded, the Comparison with predefined threshold values in one bit pattern shown.

The possible compositions of the gas mixture different gas components and their respective con concentrations are mapped in reference bit patterns. These can either by simulation, by Ab estimation or by measuring with known gas mixtures are generated. Each reference bit pattern is assigned a value of a status signal that a indicates a certain danger. Will be at e.g. uses four-digit bit patterns, i.e. like this probably that when comparing with the output signals of Detectors generated bit patterns as well as the reference bits Patterns have four binary digits each, so are maximum 16 reference bit patterns possible and 16 values of the Zu status signal. According to this range of values of the state signals can indicate dangerous states in fine gradations be signaled.

When comparing the bit pattern, this is compared with the generated Bit pattern matching reference bit pattern and the associated value of the state signals output, for example to a orderly headquarters. This bit pattern comparison, which at for example with the help of a microcomputer on one simple binary number comparison can be done in a very simple manner in a short time carry out. The measuring principle used also works practically without delay. Both together leads to that the composition of the gas mixture quickly analyze and a dangerous state is recognized early. The method according to the invention can therefore be advantageous for continuous monitoring of rooms be set, in which the room is continuously air sample is taken and the result is displayed immediately shall be. But it is also for the intermittent Operation suitable at the predetermined time only score an air sample is taken from the room. The the latter operating mode can then advantageously be turned on can be set when over several rooms at the same time watch and take the air samples taken from the rooms evaluate each other according to the inventive method are.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the radiation source radiated broadband radiation is controlled so that it is constant at the location of the detectors. Through this Measures are taken in fluctuations in the radiation source follow aging or pollution. As too The radiation at the location of the detectors is the regulating variable used. This provides a clear reference point for the maximum value of the output signal of a detector fixed which in the absence of absorption and thus is released in the absence of the corresponding gas. Is this gas in the gas mixture of the air sample, however hold, the output signal decreases depending  on the concentration of the gas. That on his maxi Output value-related output signal is therefore a measure of this concentration.

The one when the radiation passes through the airstray ke radiation emitters absorbed by the gas components gie is missing at the location of the detectors, so that due to the Re gel mechanism the radiated amount of energy around the corresponding amount is raised. This changes the Reference point for the maximum value of the output signal of the respective detector and leads to a measurement error. The but it is so small that it is negligible, because the wavelength range in which radiation is absorbed beers is very narrow and the one that is allotted to it Energy very small.

In a further embodiment of the aforementioned Wei training is provided that the radiation source emitted broadband radiation to ver different intensity values is constantly regulated that a set of reference bit patterns is associated with each value and that the state signal for each intensity value is generated. This measure makes it possible Lich, the composition of the gas mixture in very fei to analyze concentration levels without the threshold values have to be changed.

As an example of this, assume that a detector off at a first intensity value of the radiation emits a signal that is lower than its threshold value. This means that the concentration of the de detecting gas higher than the threshold value orderly concentration. The exact concentration however, the value is unknown. By increasing the radiation intensity to a second value, that also increases Output signal of the detector accordingly. This increase hen can gradually or continuously as long as it follow until the threshold is exceeded what  expresses itself in the bit pattern by changing the binary value. Now if each intensity value has a set of reference bit patterns with different values of the status signal can be assigned by comparing the generated Bit patterns with the reference bit patterns in front of the room lying danger state recognized with high accuracy will.

Another embodiment of the invention stands out characterized in that to regulate the radiation intensity a control signal is generated, the change over the Time is monitored and that depending on the size of the Change the operating state of the radiation source and / or the function signal characterizing the measuring section is produced. The control signal of a steady Control loop is on if no further disturbance variables occur act on it, constant over time, i.e. its time The change is zero. Conversely means this means that disturbances acting in the control loop become one change the control signal over time. This ef is exploited to determine the operating states of the beam tion source and / or the measuring section by a functi display signal.

For example, pollution or a decrease in radiated radiation energy of the radiation source as a result of aging express themselves in a time slow increase of the control signal. This as normal The operating state to be designated is a specific one Assigned value of the function signal, for example a certain voltage or current level. If the Radiation source fails, for example as a result of Loose contact or a burning of the glow plug dens, the control signal changes immediately in the direction higher radiation power, since the control circuit strives is to counteract the decrease in radiation power Act. This rapid change is noticed and mapped as an operating error in the function signal.

The measures of further training can also the state of the measuring section can be recognized. Contains the Air sample namely aerosols, for example smoke particles, so is the radiation due to broadband absorption and scatter greatly weakened along the measurement section. Since the control mechanism of this weakening by increases against the radiated radiation power acts, the control signal must change accordingly other. The amount of its change over time is characteristic and for the state of the gas mixture indicated by the function signal. The further out The function signal can then be evaluated, for example lead to a fire report.

Another advantageous embodiment according to the Invention is characterized in that depending on State signal the time course of the output signal at least one detector is detected and / or at Un If a hazard threshold is exceeded, a Ge driving signal is generated. Through this measure it is possible the concentration of a particular gas monitor component in the gas mixture closely. This is then makes sense if you use the previously determined State signal detects that a critical state is present, for example, when the gas mixture is a be has agreed carbon monoxide content. By capturing sen the time course of the output signal desje nigen detector, the radiation im for carbon monoxide can receive characteristic wavelength range the approximation of the carbon monoxide concentration to one Targeted risk monitoring and an increase or a further decrease in the carbon monoxide content History are displayed.

Another possibility of evaluation can be in it stand, the absolute value of the output signal of the Detek monitor tors. If this signal as a result of it increased absorption of radiation in the world in question lenlength range a hazard threshold, the one corresponds to the specified gas concentration, undercut tet, a hazard signal is generated and sent to a Headquarters issued. This then initiates appropriate Alarm messages.

Instead of a broad band arranged in the measuring chamber the light source, the radiation of which comes from atoms or Mo the gas mixture to be analyzed at certain th wavelengths is absorbed, a more apply flame, the temperature of which is between 3300 ° C and less than 1000 ° C is adjustable and by which the gases of the gas mixture to be analyzed Emission of a typical band or line spectrum can be excited. That is, the Erken the gases not only by evaluating the Ab sorption spectrum but also through the evaluation of the emission spectrum can take place.

The analysis of the gas mixture to be examined can can be completed by the fact that in addition to the Ana lysis of the electromagnetic spectrum also heat conductivity of the examined gas mixture measured becomes. This measurement provides another characteristic value for a characteristic measurement pattern, the a certain gas mixture and thus also under Um corresponds to a certain state of danger.

The invention further relates to a device for Perform the method described above with a measuring chamber in which a detector arrangement with meh reren detectors is arranged, each one Radiation filter is upstream and which the Radiation penetrating gas mixture in different  Detect wavelength ranges and turn them into electrical off convert output signals. According to the invention, one is Threshold switch arrangement provided by Ver a bit must equal to the output signals with threshold values ster generated that in an evaluation unit with ge stored reference bit patterns is compared, wherein the evaluation unit depends on the comparison result generates a status signal. Refinements of the inventions device according to the invention are in the further sub sayings.

In Fig. 1, a device for determining the composition of a gas mixture is shown, which is guided to a measuring chamber 10 via an air inlet opening 12 . The mixture or the air sample is drawn in by a pump 16 , which is arranged downstream of an air outlet opening 14 and removes the air sample again from the measuring chamber 10 . In the chamber 10 , a radiation source 18 is arranged, which is supplied with electrical energy via leads 19 . The radiation source 18 emits broadband electromagnetic radiation preferably in the wavelength range from 1 micrometer to 20 micrometers. A tungsten filament lamp or a Nernst lamp can be used as the radiation source 18 .

The radiation from the radiation source 18 passes through the air sample in the measuring chamber 10 and strikes a detector arrangement 20 on which detectors 22 to 30 are arranged. The detectors 22 to 30 are formed as thermal pillars, which convert the incident radiation into thermal energy and which emit voltages proportional to the environment as output signals of the temperature difference via the multi-wire line 40 . The respective temperature difference and thus the output signal is directly proportional to the radiation power striking the respective detector 22 to 30 .

The detector 22 is connected to an interference filter 32 , which only allows radiation of a certain absorption wavelength range, which is characteristic of a certain gas. In addition, the detectors 24 , 28 and 30 are preceded by interference filters 34 , 36 and 38 , each with a different wavelength range, of a specific gas component. The detector 26 is not provided with an interference filter, but rather receives the radiation passing through the air sample in a wide wavelength range. As will be described later, it serves to regulate the radiation intensity of the radiation source 18 .

In table 1 are those for different gas components characteristic wavelength ranges given in which the radiation is absorbed. At for example, the gas carbon dioxide has a wavelength gene range from 4.2 to 4.3 microns, in which it is preferred Radiant energy absorbed.

In Fig. 2, the control of the radiation intensity of the radiation source 18 is shown in a block diagram Darge. The detector 26 receives the radiation from the radiation source 18 in a broadband wavelength range. Its signal is fed to a controller 42 , which carries out a setpoint / actual value comparison with a setpoint Wi of a setpoint generator 44 . Depending on the comparison result, the controller 42 generates an actuating signal 46 which acts on an actuator 40 which supplies the radiation source 18 with electrical power via the line 19 . The setpoint generator 44 is controlled via a control signal 52 and, depending on this signal, outputs defined setpoints Wi with i = 1,2,3, ..

The control signal 46 is also fed to a differential module 48 , which determines the change in the control signal 46 over time . Depending on the size of this change, it generates a function signal 50 which identifies the operating state of the radiation source and / or the measuring section, as will be explained in more detail.

A circuit arrangement for evaluating the output signals of the detectors 22 , 24 , 28 , 30 is shown in a block diagram in FIG. 3. The signals from the detectors 22 , 24 , 28 , 30 are fed to a threshold value module 54 , which has threshold value switches 60 , 62 , 64 , 66 . With the help of a threshold value transmitter, 68 threshold values are supplied in the form of voltage signals, each of which is assigned a specific gas concentration of a gas. These threshold values are found in a calibration process using air samples that determine a specific gas with a defined concentration. The threshold values emitted by the threshold value transmitter 68 can be changed and are set via a signal emitted by a microprocessor 74 .

The threshold switches 60 to 66 compare the output signals of the detectors 22 to 30 with corresponding threshold values of the threshold transmitter 68 and in turn form output signals which indicate that the respective threshold value has been exceeded or fallen below. The signals of the threshold switches 60 to 66 are used by a data converter 70 supplied, which forms a binary value 72 from them. The binary value 72 is fed to the microprocessor 74 at its digital input.

The microprocessor 74 is connected to a data memory 76 in which its program to be processed and data are stored. These data also include reference bit patterns 84 a, 84 b, which are combined into reference bit pattern sets 78 , 80 , 82 . Each set 78 , 80 , 82 is assigned to a specific setpoint Wi. Each reference bit pattern set 78 , 80 , 82 contains the possible combinations of the binary value of the bit pattern 72 , which is generated from the output signals of the detectors 22 to 30 , for a desired value Wi in each case. A value 86 a, 86 b is assigned to each bit pattern 84 a, 84 b, which characterizes a certain dangerous state. In this example, these are the values A and B. These values are determined in a calibration process with predetermined mixtures of gases that correspond to certain hazardous conditions.

The microprocessor 74 compares the generated bit pattern 72 with the reference bit patterns 84 a, 84 b of a bit pattern set 78 , and determines the appropriate reference bit pattern. The value A, B assigned to this reference bit pattern 84 a, 84 b is output as a status signal 96 by the microprocessor 74 .

For a more precise analysis of the gas mixture, the microprocessor 74 uses its signal 52 to output a further setpoint value Wi of the radiation intensity of the radiation source 18 . The output signals of the detectors 22 to 30 are then evaluated in the manner already described, reference being made to the set 78 , 80 , 82 of the reference bit patterns assigned to the new desired value Wi.

The output signals of the detectors 22 to 30 are also fed to a multiplexer module 88 , which switches them through to an analog-digital converter 89 depending on the signal of the microprocessor 74 . This converts the analog signal into a digital signal and feeds it to a digital input of the microprocessor 74 . This makes it possible to monitor the individual signals of the detectors 22 to 30 in terms of their timing. This is advantageous if the concentration of a gas approaches a critical value and this course has to be recorded with high accuracy. The monitoring of a specific output signal of a detector 22 to 30 can be initiated , for example, by a specific value of the status signal 96 , which signals a critical dangerous state.

The microprocessor 74 compares the digital value emitted by the analog-to-digital converter 89 with a hazard threshold value and, depending on this comparison, emits a hazard signal 94 at its output.

The function signal 50 emitted by the differential module 48 is fed to the microprocessor 74 at its digital input. The microprocessor 74 evaluates this signal, in which the operating state of the radiation source 18 and the state of the measuring section is formed and outputs an appropriate operating state signal 92 or an alarm signal 90 at its output. On the basis of these signals 92 or 90 , maintenance work can be carried out on the measuring chamber 10 , an operating error or the presence of smoke in the room can be detected.

In Fig. 4, the voltage curve U over the time t of the control signal 46 for various operating states of the radiation source 18 and the measuring section is Darge. The lower part of the figure shows the differential quotient of the voltage U after the time t for the various operating states. In a time period T 1 , a voltage curve 100 of the control signal 46 is shown , which occurs during normal operation. By contaminating the radiation source 18 and old age tion, the radiation intensity of the radiation source 18 decreases over time. The control mechanism counteracts this and increases the electrical power supplied to the radiation source 18 . This manifests itself in a slow rise in the voltage U of the control signal 46 . The differential quotient over time t belonging to this curve with curve curve 106 is shown in the lower part of the figure. In a further time period T 2 , the rise in voltage U is steeper than in the previous example (curve 102 ). Such an increase is characteristic of a change in the measuring section, for example if the air sample contains flue gas. This results in a considerable weakening of the radiation emitted by the radiation source 18 , which the control loop seeks to compensate for, with the result that the voltage U of the control signal 46 rises steeply. This is also expressed in the curve 108 of the differential quotient of the voltage U over the time t (lower part of the figure in FIG. 4).

In a third time period T 3 , the voltage U of the actuating signal 46 increases abruptly up to a limit value G (curve profile 104 ). In the differential quotient, this is expressed in a Dirac pulse 110 . Such a curve is typical for a failure of the operating voltage of the radiation source 18 or for a burning of the filament.

By evaluating the change in the course of the control signal 46 over time t, expressed in the differential quotient of the voltage U after time t, the characteristic curve profiles 100 , 102 , 104 and 106 , 108 , 110 can be used to define operating states. The curve shape 102 and 108, in particular, is of particular importance for the detection of a dangerous state, since the presence of a fire can be determined on the basis of this shape.

In the examples shown in FIGS . 5 and 6, the same parts as in the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 4 are provided with the same reference numerals. The embodiment according to FIG. 5 differs from that of FIG. 1 in that in addition to the infrared sensors 22 to 30, a thermal conductivity sensor 112 is arranged within the measuring chamber 10 , which is covered by a diffusible cover 114 made from a sintered metal.

The input 116 of the sensor 112 is connected to the microprocessor 74 , so that the sensor 112 can be controlled by the microprocessor via a digital / analog converter 118 . The output 120 of the sensor 112 is connected to the multiplexer 88 .

A is preferably used as the thermal conductivity sensor Silicon micromechanical version sensor used. The actual sensor element consists of three silici umchips stacked on top of each other so that hollow spaces are formed, into which the gas to be measured can be long. The cavities and the silicon chips are separated from each other by a membrane that is electrical and thermally well insulated. Are on the membrane thin-film resistance meanders that act as heating and serve for temperature measurement. The sensor is through a special passivation protected against environmental influences. The entire chip arrangement is on a Kera mic carrier. The electrical contact can be made through Bonding is done on a TO-8 socket.

By means of the heating, the thermal conductivity can be measured under the control of the microprocessor 74 at very short time intervals at different temperatures, ie the thermal conductivity can be determined as a function of the temperature. The heating coil or the heating meander is controlled in succession by signals supplied by the microprocessor 74 via the D / A converter 118 to different temperature values, the actual temperature value being fed back to the microprocessor via the multiplexer 88 . Furthermore, the temperature of another resistance meander is measured, which is separated from the heating meander by the gas mixture to be analyzed. Provided that heat conduction via material bridges between the Heizmä other and the further resistance meander and heat transfer by heat radiation is negligible, the thermal conductivity of the gas mixture at different temperatures can be determined from the temperature difference between the two resistance meanders.

The course of the thermal conductivity as a function of the temperature thus determined is then compared in the microprocessor 74 with thermal conductivity curves which were empirically determined and stored for known gas mixtures or gas / steam mixtures. Thus, from the measurement of the thermal conductivity as a function of the temperature, a statement can be made about the composition of the gas or gas / steam mixture to be analyzed.

The thermal conductivity sensor therefore supplies further data which are characteristic of the gas mixture to be analyzed or of a specific gas within this gas mixture and which can supplement the measurement pattern provided by the IR sensors 22 to 30 . This further increases the accuracy with which a specific composition of the gas mixture can be determined.

In the embodiments described so far, it has always been assumed that the absorption spectrum of the gases to be analyzed is evaluated. However, it is also possible to use a regulated flame, for example an oxyhydrogen flame, in place of the broadband radiation source, the temperature of which can be adjusted from a maximum of 3300 ° C (with oxyhydrogen blowers) to values below 1000 ° C. The gases to be examined are excited with this flame to emit electromagnetic radiation, so that the emission spectrum can be evaluated. When using hydrogen-oxygen mixtures for the flame, there is a high proportion of the background radiation, which is due to gaseous H 2 O. In addition, there are the parts that are formed by the heated gas flow. In the case of clean air, these are essentially radiations which are excited by oxygen and nitrogen and by the naturally present proportion of CO 2 .

If there are other gases in the air flow Vapors and / or aerosols may occur to split in the flame zone and / or to additional redox processes. In any case, will develop additional spectra, their types (bands and / or lines) location and intensities from the flames temperature and the composition of the admixtures depend on the airflow.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 6, no light source is present. The measuring chamber 10 is closed ge. The cover 114 of the thermal conductivity sensor 112 protrudes through a wall of the measuring chamber 10 , so that gas can reach the sensor 112 from the outside through the cover 114 . In the wall of the measuring chamber 10 there is also an optically broadband window 122 through which the radiation to be evaluated can fall on the IR sensors 22 to 30 .

Such a sensor is capable of being caught by flames to analyze radiation emitted by a fire and at the same time via thermal conductivity measurements gas to conduct investigations. So here it is a detector that is used for fighting fire protection is determined and based on its multiple measurement recording statements about the course of the fire and the Fire involved substances can hit.
