Abstract

A motor cycle crash helmet is described which adapts easily to any shape and avoids pressure points caused by voids between a head and the helmet lining. The voids are evened out by a variable spacer comprising a cushion layer (5) filled with a gel and in contact with the head and a second layer filled with either air or gel. The second layer (2) in contact with the foam cushioning of the helmet is connected to a pump and a reservoir which enable the volume to be changed by pumping air or gel into the layer to fill out the empty spaces between the head and helmet. USE/ADVANTAGE - Evens out the variable distances between a head and the inner foam lining of the helmet and therefore prevents injury from localised pressure points.

Description

Standard-compliant motorcycle helmets consist of an outer shell, usually made of fiberglass, a core made of polystyrene as a shock absorbing element and a fabric lining.

Motorcycle protective helmets correspond in shape to theirs Inner shell (head support side) a standard head that in As a rule, no potential sponsor provides this. So it always happens in the area between the helmet shell and head again to form gaps. These spaces lead to pressure peaks on the tight in the event of a fall / impact adjacent head areas and prevent an even Energy distribution for processing the incoming Impact energy. The consequences of this are always serious Injuries, despite adequate helmet quality.

Is intended to be a variable between the helmet shell and head Distance compensation. This should be after the creation of the helmet compensate for these gaps and so for one more even distribution of incoming energy to care. The content of this distance compensation must have a have high shock absorption properties and will do so be filled with a gel. In connection with helmet shell, Styrofoam core, distance compensation and terry lining becomes a compact and even shock absorption protection achieved.

Konstruktionconstruction

Structure in basic form ( Fig. 1a / b) with four tabs each for the top side ( 1 ), right and left side of the head ( 2 ) and back of the head ( 3 ). The four lobes end in a center ( 4 ) that is later positioned in the helmet so that it lies in the area of the small fontanel of a wearer's skull.

The flaps and the center are made of transparent PVC film ( Fig. 2, 1, 4, 6), approx. 0.2 mm thick. They are worked in triplicate ( Fig. 2), so that two chambers ( 2/5 ) are formed.

The upper chamber ( 2 ) lying against the styrofoam core is divided by labyrinthine welds ( 3 ) and filled with air or another substance. A PVC hose ( Fig. 1a / b, 4) beginning at the center is used to connect to a reservoir ( Fig. 1a / b, 6) filled with the same substance. The volume of the substance in the upper chamber can be varied by means of a pump and a valve system.

The lower chamber ( 5 ) lying on the head side is filled with a viscous gel or an elastic plastic. If the material is evenly distributed in this chamber, an approximate thickness of 2-3 mm should be achieved.

The total weight of the construction should be less than 300 g and it should be laid out so that no disability any existing ventilation devices of the engine protective helmets arise.
