Abstract

An electrical flat switch with switch units arranged in the form of a matrix, consisting of a dielectric lower layer (1), a first set of tensioned elastic wires (2), an elastic intermediate layer (3) with holes (4), a second set of tensioned elastic wires (7), which run perpendicularly to the first set and intersect these in the region of the holes in the intermediate layer, and a covering film (8) of dielectric material. If a pressure is applied to the covering film (8) in the region of the holes (4) in the intermediate layer (3), in each case one wire of the first set comes into electrical contact with one wire of the second set. The lower layer (1) and the covering film (8) can consist of translucent material, so that the switch arrangement can be illuminated through from the lower layer. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a flat switch arrangement with matrix-shaped, pressure-actuated switches, in which a first set of mutually parallel conductors and a second set of mutually parallel conductors are arranged on a base of insulating material such that the conductors of the second set perpendicular to those of the first set, a cover sheet of insulating material on the second set of conductors and an elastic layer of insulating material between the two sets of conductors, which has holes at the intersections of the conductors of the first conductor set with those of the second conductor set, so that by pressure the cover film in the area of the crossing points, the crossing conductors can be brought into contact with one another.

Such a switch arrangement is known for example from DE-AS 1 640 444. In the known embodiment, the conductors are plated onto the underlying insulating material layer. For this purpose, the layers of insulating material must be provided with a metal layer, which is then coated with a light-sensitive lacquer, followed by a development process and an etching process, after which the light-sensitive lacquer must finally be removed. In addition, the plated conductors still have to be provided with electrical connections.

Apart from the complicated manufacturing process, the known embodiment has the further disadvantage that at least one of the insulating material layers coated with conductors must be bent for the purpose of contacting the intersecting conductors. With frequent actuation, there is a risk that the thin conductor tracks become detached from the load-bearing insulating material layer.

Finally, different etching masks are required to manufacture switches of different sizes.

The object of the invention is to design a switch arrangement of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it can be easily and automatically manufactured and at the same time has very robust contacts.

This object is achieved by the measures specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

Advantageous developments of the invention emerge from the subclaims.

The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the figures.
  • Figure 1 shows an exploded perspective view of the individual parts of the switch assembly according to the invention.
  • Figure 2 shows a perspective arrangement of an embodiment of the switch arrangement according to the invention.

The individual parts of the switch arrangement can be seen in FIG. 1.

With 1 is a base made of insulating material. This consists either of a plate or a film made of a suitable insulating material, for example plastic. The first set of conductors consists of tensioned elastic wires 2 which run parallel to one another. The second set of conductors also consists of tensioned elastic wires 7, which, however, are arranged at right angles to the wires 2. An elastic insulating material layer 3 is arranged between the wires 2 and 7 and has holes 4 at the crossing points of the conductors 2 and 7. The layer 3 can consist, for example, of a foam plastic layer. The layer 3 is expediently coated on both sides with adhesive layers 5 and 6. On the top, the switch arrangement is covered by an insulating film 8.

To manufacture the switch, the two sets of wires 2 and 7 are clamped in suitable holders 9, so that they are held taut and parallel to one another in the correct position. The perforated insulating material layer 3, which is provided on both sides with an adhesive layer, is introduced between the sets of tensioned wires 2 and 7, while the base 1 is underneath the wires 2 and the cover film 8 is arranged above the wires 7. Then all parts are pressed together and heated if necessary. The tensioned wires 2 and 7 are embedded in the adhesive layer 6 and 5 on the elastic insulating material layer 3 and at the same time the insulating material parts 1 and 8 are firmly connected to the layer 3. Then only the wires 2 and 7 have to be cut along the edge of the arrangement. This is advantageously done in such a way that the wires protrude from at least one side of the arrangement and thus serve as connections. This completes the entire switch arrangement.

It can easily be seen that by varying the distance between the brackets 9, the number of wires 2 and 7 inserted and by cutting out a suitable size of the insulating parts 1, 3 and 8 switches of any size and shape can be produced in a very simple manner. The switch arrangement is completely sealed and the wires are kept in tension by embedding in the adhesive layer. When the cover film 8 is pressed, one of the wires 7 is bent and comes into electrical contact with one of the wires 2. Since the wires 7 and 2 themselves are made of elastic material, they reliably return after the pressure has ceased, even after repeated actuation their starting position back.

It is expedient to mark the crossing points of the wires in a suitable manner on the cover film 8. This is advantageously done in such a way that a translucent film is used as film 8, which on the underside, that is, the side facing the wires 7 is printed with a corresponding symbol. This symbol is then visible on the top of the film 8, but cannot be blurred or removed by external influences.

To achieve good electrical contact, the wires 2 and 7 are provided, at least at the crossing points, with an electrically well-conductive cover. In particular, the wires 2 and 7 can be designed as so-called sheathed wires, i.e. Wires with a core made of elastic material and an outer cover made of electrically conductive material.

In some cases it is desirable to illuminate the switch assembly. This can be done in a simple manner in that the insulating base 1 is also made of translucent material, so that the entire switch arrangement can be illuminated from the base 1. The individual contact arrangements are then clearly marked through the holes 4 in the elastic insulating material layer 3 and the symbol attached to the cover film 8 is clearly visible. Since the wires 2 and 7 need only be very thin, the passage of light is hardly influenced.

In order to increase the reliability of the contact, two wires can be arranged so close to one another instead of one wire per contact point in at least one set of wires that they are assigned to the same crossing points. In this way, double contacts are obtained when double wires are used in one of the wire sets. However, both sets of wires can also consist of double wires.

Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a switch arrangement according to the invention. The insulating material base 1, the elastic intermediate layer 3 and the transparent cover film 8 are connected to one another by the adhesive layers 5 and 6, the wires 2 and 7 being embedded in the adhesive layers 5 and 6, respectively. The wires protrude at the edge of the arrangement as connections and the crossing points between the wires 2 and 7 are each arranged in the middle of a hole 4 in the elastic intermediate layer 3. By pressing the film 8 in the area of one of the holes 4, an electrical contact is made between the two crossing wires.
