Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for separating the gas phase which evaporates during the conveyance of pressurized, low-boiling liquid gas and for subcooling the remaining liquid phase according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the invention has for its object to provide a device for separating the gas phase evaporating during the conveyance of pressurized, low-boiling liquid gas and for subcooling the remaining liquid phase, which can be arranged as a compact device immediately before the machine that consumes the low-boiling liquid gas, none External energy is required and is maintenance-free.
- the device according to the invention comprises a subcooler with a bath of cold liquid gas, a gas phase separator immersed in the cooling bath, a cooling coil for transporting liquid from the gas phase separator through the cooling bath to lower the temperature of the liquid gas in the cooling coil and its return transport to the supply lines, and a float valve control mechanism for Control of the liquid level in the subcooler and separator bath.
- the drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention as a schematic drawing, which represents an integrated compact gas phase separator and subcooler built according to the invention.
- an integrated compact gas phase separator and subcooler 11 for removing gas phases from liquid gas and for subcooling the liquid gas can be seen, which leads to the subcooler 11 through a transport line connected to an inlet pipe 13, freed from the gas phase, subcooled and to a transport line through a Exhaust pipe 15 is passed.
- the subcooler comprises a container 17 which is vacuum-insulated to prevent thermal leaks. The outside of the container 17 is not excessively cooled and the insulation prevents the cold from flowing out inside the container 17.
- a cooling bath 19 of liquid gas is maintained within the container 17, which can optionally be a surrounding bath of liquid nitrogen at 196 ° C (-320 ° F) and atmospheric pressure (14.7 psi).
- the cooling bath 19 is held on a liquid level 21 by means of a valve 23, a float 25 being connected to the valve 23 by means of an arm 27.
- the gas phase separator includes a separator container 29 which is arranged within the container 17 and is located in the cold cooling bath 19.
- Liquid gas flows through the inlet pipe 13 from a liquid gas supply line into the container 29 through an opening 31 into a separator liquid bath 33 held at a liquid level 35 by means of the position of a discharge pipe 37 23 out from where they are brought into the upper part of the container 17 above the liquid level 21. From there, the evaporated portion of the atmosphere can be discharged through a vent valve 39 attached to the upper part of the container 17.
- the vent valve 39 can be closed and the evaporated portion can be transported to a pressure regulator 41 through the pipe 43.
- the pressure regulator 41 can instead of regulating the ambient pressure set by the vent valve 39 in the container 17, provided that the vent valve 39 is closed, take over the pressure control in the container 17, the pressure being increased or decreased above or below the ambient pressure, as a result of which the temperature of the Liquid gas in the cooling bath 19 is controllable.
- liquid in the separator liquid bath 33 is fed out of the separator through an opening 45 in the lower part of the separator container 29 into the cooling coils 47, where the supercooling of the liquid gas contained in the coils and the conduction thereof to the outlet pipe 15 takes place at the desired temperature and corresponding pressure Heat exchange takes place.
- liquid nitrogen can enter the subcooler 11 through the inlet pipe 13 at -178 ° C (- 289 O F) and 4.2 kg / cm 2 (60 psi) and are led to outlet pipe 15 at 196 ° C (-320 ° F) and 4.2 kg / cm 2 (60 psi).
- the heat from the cooling coils 47 heats the liquid in the cooling bath 19 and causes part of it to evaporate so as to lower the liquid level 21 and thereby actuate the valve 23 to open and discharge gas from the upper part of the separator container 29.
- liquid is transported from the separator to the valve 23 in the container 17. This causes the liquid level 21 to rise as the float 25 is raised and the valve 23 is shut off.
- the subcooler 11 used at this point to explain the invention is also suitable for the use of cryogenic liquids which are different from liquid nitrogen.
- the subcooler 11 is compact in size and allows the user to place it on or near the device where the supercooled liquefied petroleum gas is consumed.
- the liquid in the separator tank 29 is the consumable liquid to be treated in the separator and subcooler and is returned to the supply lines through the outlet pipe 15.
- the liquid gas is liquid nitrogen, which is introduced into the gas phase separator at a temperature of approximately -178 ° C ( ⁇ 289 ° F) and a pressure of 4.2 kg / cm 2 (60 psi) in Subcooler 11 is subcooled and transported to the supply lines through outlet pipe 15 at approximately -196 ° C (-320 ° F) and 4.2 kg (60 psi).
- the subcooler 11 can also be used to treat liquefied gases, such as oxygen, helium, hydrogen, liquefied petroleum or natural gases, etc.
- liquefied gases such as oxygen, helium, hydrogen, liquefied petroleum or natural gases, etc.
- the liquefied petroleum gas coming from the subcooler 11 is freed from the gas phase and subcooled, so that it is better able to withstand the action of heat and, in the case of nitrogen, does not begin to evaporate before it reaches a temperature of -196 ° C (-289 ° F ) has reached.
- a gas phase separator integrated in the subcooler is used.
- gas is led out of the gas phase separator, liquid is transported to the subcooler bath and a liquid level is maintained both in the gas phase separator and in the subcooler by means of a float valve.
- the device according to the invention is of very compact dimensions (approx. 41 cm (16 inches) outer diameter x 61 cm (24 inches) height), which enables the user to set up the unit on the device where the supercooled liquid gas is consumed.
- the liquid level 35 of the separator bath is kept constant by the height of the drain pipe 37, which is connected to the valve 23.
- the separator tank 29 then allows gas to escape until the liquid level 35 reaches the drain pipe 37, whereupon the liquid from the separator liquid bath 33 of the separator tank 29 passes into the subcooler tank until the liquid level 21 of the cooling bath 19 has risen high enough to close the valve 23 is.
- the cooling bath automatically cools to -196 ° C (-320 ° F) at ambient pressure. Accordingly, the heat from the cooling coils 47, as soon as the ⁇ 178 ° C (Kühl289 ° F) warm liquid nitrogen flows through the cooling coils 47, vaporizes the surrounding bath, with the liquid level 21 falling and the valve 23 opening, which releases all gases withdrawn in the separator container 29 and after the gases have been withdrawn, draws liquid from the separator liquid bath 33 in order to transport them to the cooling bath 19, to supplement them and to bring them to their level.
- the device according to the invention enables an automatic system with only one moving part, the valve 23. It does not require temperature control devices, solenoid valves or energy supplies.
- the outlet temperature of the liquid gas can be regulated by optionally pressurizing the container 17 by the pressure regulator 41 while the vent valve 39 is closed.
- the temperature of the cooling bath 19 becomes higher than -196 ° C (-320 ° F), provided the pressure in the container 17 is set to values above atmospheric pressure.
- the bath temperature becomes colder than -196 ° C (-320 ° F), if negative pressure is applied to the surrounding cooling bath 19.
- the integrated subcooler separator according to the invention delivers absolute liquid without gas phases, at any desired temperature by suitable selection of the pressure in the subcooler.
