Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for filling an insulating glass unit with a filling gas, in which the filling gas is introduced into the interior of the insulating glass unit via at least one inlet opening and air or air-gas mixture is sucked out of the interior of the insulating glass unit via at least one additional opening, and in which a pressure is exerted on the outer surfaces of the glass panes of the insulating glass unit to be filled during the filling process, which is greater than the pressure prevailing inside the insulating glass unit during the filling process.
- a method for adjusting the internal pressure of insulating glass panes is known from US Pat. No. 3,842,567. In this process, either the glass panels are pressed or the glass panels are pulled apart.
- the glass panes are either pressed inwards by means of stamps or pulled apart by suction heads and at the same time ensure that air can flow into or out of the interior of the insulating glass unit.
- the organs that press on the glass panes are equipped with rubber pads and take up only a small fraction of the area of the glass panes, as this is the only way to achieve the desired inward curvature of the glass panes.
- the problem with the known devices is that it takes a long time for the filling process to be completed. It is therefore no longer possible to comply with the cycle times customary for the production of insulating glass (approximately 20 seconds). The reason for this is that the insulating glass unit must be filled slowly with filling gas so that no high pressure builds up in the pane, since otherwise the insulating glass unit would be destroyed, for example because the glass panes detach from the spacer frame.
- the invention has for its object to provide a method of the type mentioned that can be carried out quickly and easily, so that the filling with filling gas does not interfere with the normal cycle times of an insulating glass production line.
- this is achieved by applying the pressure to the glass panes during the filling process by applying plate-shaped pressure elements which essentially cover the entire surface of the glass panes of the insulating glass unit, by measuring the pressure in the gas supply line after the filling process has ended, and by only releases the pressure on the outer surfaces of the glass panes of the insulating glass unit when the pressure determined in this way has reached a preselected value, for example corresponds to the atmospheric pressure.
- the filling gas can be blown into the insulating glass unit at high pressure and thus at a correspondingly high speed, flow speeds of 60 to 200 1 / min are possible. Because the glass panes are pressed against the spacer frame by the external pressure, there is no danger that the glass panes will come loose from the spacer frame. It is also prevented that spacer frames between the two glass panes of the insulating glass unit move outwards under the pressure of the filling gas.
- the method according to the invention prevents the pressure on the outer surfaces of the glass panes of the insulating glass unit from being released too early, since the pressure in the gas supply line is measured after the filling process has ended, and the pressure on the outer surfaces of the glass panes of the insulating glass unit is only released when the so pressure determined a preselected value, e.g. corresponds to the atmospheric pressure.
- a preselected value e.g. corresponds to the atmospheric pressure.
- This also opens up the possibility of building up a preselected pressure in the insulating glass unit in order to prevent the glass sheets of the insulating glass unit from being dented or bulged at different manufacturing and installation locations (lower air pressure at higher installation locations or higher air pressure at lower installation locations). This can be done by adjusting the pressure of the gas inside the insulating glass to a preselected value, the preselected value of the pressure corresponding to the mean air pressure at the installation location of the insulating glass.
- the quantity of filling gas supplied is determined by determining the amount of filling gas supplied per unit of time and that the filling process is stopped when the product of the filling gas quantity per unit time and duration of the filling process corresponds to the volume of the filling gas to be supplied to the interior of the insulating glass unit.
- oxygen sensors are not required in the suction line because the required amount of filling gas is simply blown into the insulating glass unit.
- the two plate-shaped pressure elements that are used in the method according to the invention can be the plates of a press for pressing insulating glass, as is known from DE-A 3 130 645.
- this is only a preferred variant, since it is sufficient in itself if two pressure plates are provided which lie against the outer surfaces of the two glass panes of the insulating glass unit and are pressed against the glass panes with corresponding pressure.
- a pressure sensor can be provided in the line for supplying the filling gas.
- the pressure sensor in the feed line for the filling gas detects the pressure prevailing in the interior of the insulating glass unit and controls the device so that the press is only opened or the pressure on the outer surfaces of the glass panes of the insulating glass unit is released only when a signal from the pressure sensor is given that the gas pressure inside the insulating glass unit, for example corresponds to atmospheric pressure (or a preselected pressure).
- the opening in the spacer frame is closed by injecting a hardening mass, e.g. with the help of a plug made of butyl rubber.
- This mode of operation also makes it possible to adjust the pressure inside the insulating glass pane to the atmospheric pressure normally prevailing at the installation site depending on the altitude of the installation site.
- the openings in the spacer can also be closed in another station.
- the method of operation according to the invention also makes it possible to fill the insulating glass unit with filling gas (e.g. sulfur hexafluoride), which is only partially intended for soundproofing purposes. Until now, this was not possible with an ordinary oxygen sensor in the suction line. In the invention, it is simply sufficient to blow in the predetermined amount of filling gas, based on the volume of the interior of the insulating glass unit (i.e. the desired fraction of the interior volume).
- filling gas e.g. sulfur hexafluoride
- the filling volume i.e. the volume of the interior of the insulating glass unit to be filled (calculated on the basis of the width and height of the insulating glass unit in conjunction with the distance between the two glass panes).
- the required fill gas quantity is determined on the basis of the volume determined. It can then be proceeded in such a way that, based on the flow quantity of filling gas per unit of time measured by the flow measuring device, the filling is stopped after a predetermined period of time, the predetermined period of time corresponding to the volume of filling gas that is to be supplied, based on the flow rate.
- the volume of filling gas to be supplied generally corresponds to 110-120% of the volume of the interior of the insulating glass unit.
