Abstract

The system is accessible via the telephone network or internet, and has a databank (3) holding information relating to traffic congestion etc.. A signalling channel provides the information to a user upon interrogation. The databank is accessed via an input element (10) which differentiates between the signalling channel and the interrogation channel. The databank has a speech or word recognition device (4) for recognising key words in a telephone or internet call, for accessing the information relating to the required motorway section, fed to the user via an output element (2).
