Application filedll' uly To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL B. RENFRO. a citizen of the United States, residing at Madera, in the county of Madera, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screen-Leveling Devices for Threshers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invent-ion relates to improvements in combined harvesters and particularly to the shoes thereof, the object of the invention being to produce a means for the shoe whereby when the body of the harvester tilts from .bne side to the other when moving over rolling ground or a hillside said shoe will remain in a horizontal position regardless of the position of the harvester whereby the grain will not pile up to one side or one corner of the shoe and be wasted.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet' one which will be exceedingly efiec-tive for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
In the drawings similar characters of'reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of a portion of the harvester showing my improved shoe structure therein. Fig. 2 is an end view of my improved shoe structure. Fig. 3 is a detached view of a hinge.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the body of the harvester which is provided with any desired form of cylinder, drapers, conveyers, separators Specification-of L-ettersratent.

and fans, no claim being laid to these features by me hence no specific description of the same will be entered into herein.
The numeral 2 designates the rockers of the shoe supporting the main frame beams 3.
The numeral t designates the main body' of the shoe provided with the usual side members, screens and bars, this shoe in my improved structure being pivotally hinged as at 5 to the main frame beams 3. On the front of the shoe is an adjustable wind board 6 which is adapted to move with each movemen-t of the shoe on its hinged points 5.
Projecting upwardly from each side of the shoe 4 is a bar 6 connected with each of which is a chain 7' each chain projecting over-a pulley 8 in the top of the body 1 and being thence each connected with a vertical rod 9 having a horizontal portion 10 journ-aled in a beam 11 and provided with a downwardly projecting portion 12, having a weight 13 on its lower end. The two chains from the two rods 9 cross each other as shown in Fig. 2 so that when the harvester tilts to one side the weight on the other side will bring the shoe to a horizontal position regardless of the position of the harvester. The two rods 9 are provided with a cross guide chain 14 to maintain the same relative position of the weights 13 at all times. At the connection of the chains 7 with the rods 9 is an adjustment consisting of two sliding plates 15 provided with slots through which project bolts 16 whereby the exact position of the chains may be fixed in order to give the proper action to the weights 13 in order to maintain the shoe in horizontal position.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the object of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what leys, a weighted rod swinging on the outside I claim as new and useful and desire to seof each of said bars, said chains crossing each cure by Letters Patent is other and each being connected with one of A device of the character described comsaid weighted rods, as described. 5 prising the combination of a main frame, In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 15 a shoe proper hinged centrally onsaid main in presence of two witnesses; 7 frame, spaced pulleys journaled independ- DANIEL B.
