WILLIAM H. SEMON, 0F CLEVELAND, OHIO.
HOLDER FOR REMOVABLE OBJECTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 13,1913.
Application ala May 4, 1911. serial No. 625,106.
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SnMoN, a citizen of the United States, residentl of Cleveland county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for Removable Cbjects, of which the following is a specilication, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
This invention relates to a holder for removable objects,.and more particularly to such as embody a clamping finger normally in engagement with a primary supportingmember.
The object is to provide a devi-ce of this general character which, while economical of manufacture, will be more easy of-Amanipulation and yet more efficient.
The said invention consists of means which are hereinafter fully described and particularly set forth in the claim.
The annexed drawings and the following description set forth in detail certain means embodying my invention, the disclosed means, however, constituting but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be applied.
n said annexed drawings :-Figure 1 is an elevation of a holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view partly in section. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line III-III of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, of a modified part thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, in which like letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views, a hollow tube A is provided interiorly-at each end thereof with an abutting partition a', having the centrally disposed lug a2. At each extremity of the tube A, a hollow cap B is fixedly mounted in any approved manner. These caps are of such a shape that the upperportions extend t0- ward each other, somewhat above the tube, where they are provided with the openings 2)', clearly appearing in Fig. 2. One end of the clamping fingers C extends through these openings Zi', and conforms substantially to the interior contour of the caps. Near the extremity of the ends o and specifically so as to be disposed upon the axis of the tube A,are lugs 02vvhich may he exact counterparts of the i lugs a2, and are adapted to coperate therewith in a manner to be presently manifest. The clamping fingers C are pivotally mounted in the openings L through the medium of the pins c3. The other ends of the clamping fingers are of hollow construction and made to flare, as best seen in Fig. 3, and
designated by the reference letters c4. Pivotally mounted upon the pins d extending through the openings c in these flaring portions of the clamping fingers, are rollersl D. The constructive arrangement is moreover such that these pins will lie in a parallel plane with the pins c.
Springs E are interposed between the partitions a and the ends c', so as to surround, and be supported upon the lugs a2 and c2, as clearly appearing in Fig. 2. As will now be apparent, these springs, as calcnlated, are adapted to normally hold the rollers D in yielding engagement with the upper surface of the tube A, whereby a towei, robe, or other object F to be supported thereon may be readily slipped underneath the rollers, and more or less securely held in position. It should be especially noted that while the construction permits the veryy ready lateral .insertion of the object F such as the towel shown which it is desired to have the holder support, quite an appreciable resistance is offered, tending to prevent its slipping downward from the tube A. It is this which is deemed to comprise the inventive feat-ure of this application, and in so far as the applicant is aware, differentiates it from previous constructions placed upon the market.
In Fig. 4, a modification of somewhat less merit is shown. In this form, a ball G is mounted in a ball-bearing construct-ion c formed on the under side of the upper end c* of the clamping finger. While this form permits an insertion of theobject `to be clamped with equal facility either from the sides or from the ends, the resistance offered against. lateral slipping 1s necessarily lesscned.
I claim therefore and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A holder Yfor removable objects comprising the combination of a supporting tube having an open extremity; the hollow cap B secured to the latter and itself provided with the opening b',-
Having fully described my invention, what i t-he clampingfmember 11G C pvoted tovsaid cap and having itsextremity extending Within the latter; the holder provided with the lug 02,' the spring mounted Within Said tube aving its i3 outer end engaging the extremity c of the member C, and its inner end abutting the fixed partition a; and the` anti-metion roller D normally surface of said rod.
Signed by me, this 2nd day of May, 1911.
