To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I,'J0HN H. Knmoema citizen of the United States, residing at the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Therapeutic Apparatus, of whichthe following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements 1I1 therapeutic apparatus.

The main objects of this invention are:

i First, to provide an improved therapeutic apparatus for the treatment of rheumatism and diseases of the hands or feet or of the limbs and by which the desired pressure or strain on the parts may be secured while the blood is caused to flow to the parts treated and a radiant heat and light treatment simultaneously secured. Second, to provide an improved therapeutic apparatus embodying these advantages, which is simple in operation and structure and economical to pro duce and use. 1

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.-

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying' drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

Referring to the. accompanying drawing,- I provide a casing 1 adapted as a suction chamber" which for convenience is mounted upon a base 2-so'that it is readily portable. A supporting sling 5 is provided within the casing, the sling being preferably designed to support the arm out of contact with the wall of the casing.

A sleeve 4 is secured tothe arm by the binding band 6. The details of this band are not illustrated but are preferably such as to bind the sleeve tightly to the arm to provide an air tight joint and also to con- 1 is exhausted to produce a suction therein and thereby pull inwardly on the sleeve and on the arm as by means of a suction pump 7, the pump being connected to the casing by the pipe 8. A valve 9 is provided for the pipe 8 so that the suction of the pump can be shut ofi as desired.

Within the casing, I arrange the electric lamp 10, a plurality of lamps being preferably provided so that the degree of heat can be regulated. Three lamps in the structure illustrated, are controlled by a switch 11 so that any or all of the lamps may be connected or all turned out as may be desired. g

The support 5 is pivotally mounted on the rod 12 which is arranged'for vertical adjustment through the packing gland 13. set screw 14 is provided for securing the rod 12 in its adjusted positions.

At the rear of the support 5' I arrangea co acting supporting member 15 which is in the form of. a pad supported on the adjustable rod 16 to be adjusted to engage the back of the hand and prevent its drawing or swinging up. The rod 16 is arranged through a gland 13 and provided with a set ,screw 14 forv securing-it in its adjusted positions.

A window 17 is provided for convenience in adjustment of the apparatus and also to enable-the observation of the progress of the treatment.

With the apparatus adjusted as shown, the operation'of the pump produces a partial vacuum in the suction chamber and a consequent pull on the sleeve which being secured to the arm pulls on the arm. The fingers being supported by the sling, strain or pressure is applied thereto. The constriction on the arm causes blood to collect in the hand while the heat and suction also cause of blood to the hand. The

light treatment is also beneficial as is well understood. Thus I secure in one apparatus, a combination of the strain or stress, while at the'same time, the blood is drawn to the Land and the heat and light treatment is secured. This I find to be very beneficial in the treatment of rheumatism and in treatments in straightening distorted fingers or diseased joints. The treatment is also beneficial for normal persons where it is desired to render the hands more flexible as is sometimes much desired by musicians. T he treatment is also-Very desirable where it is desired to increase the circulation in the hands or feet. 1

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a structure of the class described, the combination-of a chamber; air exhaustan opening through which the member treated my be inserted; a flexible sleeve for said opening; air exhausting means for said chamber; a swinging support mounted for adjustment in said chamber; and a second support adjustably mounted at the rear of said swinging support to engage a member therein. 3. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a chamber provided with an opening through which the member treated may be inserted; a flexible sleeve for said opening; air exhausting means for said chamber; at support mounted for? adjustment; and a second adjustable support mounted at the rear of the other support to engage a member therein.
