Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented darned, rat...
Application filed January 29, 1913. Serial No. 744,919.
, which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a means for securing a reply post card within a folder containing advertising matter, when the folded dimensions of the folder are larger than the dimensions of the post card, the object being to insure that the name and address of the firm on the reply card are displayed through the back of the folder without impairing the reading matter thereon.
The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accompanied, in which:
Figure 1 is a erspective view of my con-' struction of fol er showing a postal-card inclosed therein. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the folder being shown open to illustrate the manner of holding the card. Fig. 3 is a face view that illustrates a modification of said invention. Fig. 4 is a face view of the folder shown in Fig. 3 open. Fig. 5'is a cross section on the line 5-5 on Fig. 1.
ln these draws'2 represents the folder which may have any desired reading or advertising matter on it. The main body or back of this folder 2 is assumed to be wider than that of the post card3, which it is desired to inclose within it.
Running parallel to one of the folds l of I the folder, 2, are slits 5, of such length as to Flt permit the passage of the longer dimension of the post card through them, and at such a distance from the creases t and from one another as to display through the outer side of the folder, the required name and address written .on the post card. A small diagonal slit 6 is also cut through the back of the folder 2 in the position occupied by one corher of the card 3, through which slit the corner of the card 3 is passed, and by which it is securely held against displacement, but
ofiers no obstruction to the ready removal of the card when the folder is o ened.
No novelty is claimed for t e slits 5 which are known to have been used for the same,
or for a similar purpose, as they are here, but where the folder is of much larger size than the card they will obviously not retain the card in place, and it has been necessary 7 to provide some means to hold the card and that in a manner that is simple and inexpenslve and that will involve little extra trouble to the party sending the card, or to the one receiving it. The manner here shown complies with these requirements in that the slit 6, which is the only extra one required, is as simple as possible and yet it amply serves its purpose, as when the corner of the card 3 is inserted in it, the card is securely held by the fold 4 along one side and against movement outward from this fold by engagement in the small slit 6.
Although shown as an angular slit across one corner of the card, any slit in the folder that will engage the edge of the inclosed card farther from the fold, against which the card is placed and will prevent its displacement therefrom, will serve the required purpose, such as a small arc slit about the mid-length of the card. a
' Having now particularly described my invention and the manner of its use, I hereby declare that what I claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
A folded letter card comprising a body portion of substantially rectangular form adapted on its outer side to receive the return address and ostage stamp, said card including two fol ers, one extending from each longitudinal edge of the body portion, said folders being of a width substantially equal to one half of the body portion, said body portion having two parallel slits near one longitudnal edge and to one side of the center, an address card adapted to be projected through said slits to expose the address portion, said address card being of substantially lesser dimensions than that of said body portion and one edge of said ad dress card being held in the fold between name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
