COMBINED VEST AND PETTICOAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. *2, 1.916.
Application filed January 27, 1916. Serial No. 74,624.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LUCY NAHABEDIAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Vest and Petticoat, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to childrens garments and its object is to provide a new and improved combined vest and petticoat arranged to provide the desired freedom for the body and to permit convenient attachment of drawers and diapers, hose supporters and the like, without exerting a strain on the petticoat or mar-ring the proper hang thereof.
In order to accomplish the desired result,
use is made of a vest and a petticoat attached to the outside of the vest at the waistline thereof, the vest having an integral extension band reaching a distance below the waistline, and attaching devices on the outer face of the said extension band for attachment of drawers, diapers, hose supporters and the like.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the combined vest and petticoat; Fi 2 is a similar view of the same with parts broken out; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The garment consists essentially of a vest 10 and a petticoat 11. The vest 10 is provided with a neck opening 12 and shoulder openings 13, and the back is open along the median line to form overlapping flaps 14 adapted to be fastened together by suitable fastening devices such as buttons 15 and buttonholes 16, as indicated in the drawings. The petticoat 11 has its waistband 17 attached to the vest 10 at the waistline thereof and the said petticoat is provided with a slit 18 in alinement with the back opening of the vest, the slit being adapted to be closed by a suitable fastening device such as a button 19 and buttonhole 20 arranged at the waistband 17.
The material forming the vest 10 is extended downward below the waistline and doubled up to form an extension band 21 underlying the upper portion of the petticoat 11 so that the band 21 is not visible from the outside. This band 21 is open in alinement with the back opening of the vest 10 and is adapted to be closed by a fastening device such as a button 22 and buttonhole 23. The outer face of the extension band 21 is provided with pairs of buttons 2% at the front, the sides and the rear for engagement with buttonholes in the waistbands of drawers or other undergarments. The button 22, previously mentioned, forms one of the pair of buttons at the back of the garment. Tabs 25 are arranged at the front and rear of the extension band 21 and are fastened in place at the waistline, that is, between the joint of the waistband 17 with the vest 10. Diapers or other devices may be attached to the tabs 25. Tabs 26 extend on the outside of the extension band 21 at the sides thereof and are likewise fastened in place between the waistband 17 and the vest 10, the said tabs 26 being adapted to be connected with hose supporters 27 of any approved construction.
It will be noticed that a garment constructed in the manner described provides a convenient means for the attachment of drawers, diapers, hose supporters and the like, the parts when so attached exerting no strain on the petticoat or marring the proper hang thereof, as the band 21 forms an integral portion of the vest 10 supported from the shoulders of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A garment, comprising a vest, a petticoat having a waistband permanently attached to the exterior of the said vest at the waistline thereof, the material forming the said vest being extended below the waist line and doubled up to form an integral band extending within the upper portion of the said petticoat, and fastening devices attached to the said extension band beneath the said petticoat.
2. A garment, comprising a vest, a petticoat having a waistband permanently attached to the exterior of the said vest at the waistline thereof, the said vest having an integral band extending below the waistline, the said vest and its band being open pair of tabs being located at the front and 7 rear and the other pair of tabs being located at the sides of the band, and fastening de- 1 vices attached to the said extension band beneath the said petticoat.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
