FLOOR POLISHER ANDv THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED AUG'H. I916 Patented Nov. 28, 1916.

GEORGE s. Donn, or roLEno, OHIO.
FLOOR-POLISHER AND THE LIKE.
Application filed August 14, 1916. Serial No. 114,859.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE S. DOHM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Floor Polisher and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for polishing floors and for like purposes, one of the objects being to provide a simple form of holder to which a polishing cloth orthe like can be attached readily, it being possible quickly to remove the same for thepurpose of cleaning it or for substitutinganother cloth.
A further object is to compact in construction and which canbe readily manipulated because of its light construction.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention-resides inthe combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it beingunderstood that changes in the precise embodiment of the in-.
vention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device and showing a polishing cloth applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device with the polishing cloth removed and the jaw shifted out of its normal position. Fig. 3 is a detail view of certain of the parts disconnected.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a base plate having an upturned flange 2 along one longitudinal edge thereof, while formed in said plate adjacent its opposed edge is a longitudinal slot 3. A supplemental or reinforcing plate 1 is soldered or otherwise secured upon the plate 1 and has a narrow intermediate portion 5 interposed between the slot 3.and the adjacent longitudinal edge of the plate. Vings 6 are provided at the ends of the intermediate portion 5 and extend, across the ends of the slot 3. Each of these wings has its free ends broadened and provided with upstanding sleeves 7 integral therewith. Into the inner ends of these sleeves are ex tended the oppositely projecting terminals 8 provide a device of' this character which is simple, durable and Specificationbf Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1916.
of a yoke 9, said yoke being attached in anysultable manner to a handle 10. The
outer ends of the sleeves receive pintles 12 projecting inwardy fromarms 12. These arms extend at right angles from the ends of a clamping plate 13, said plate being pro-.
vided with a longitudinal flange 14: formed 7 with. teeth 15. The plate is so proportioned that, when it is resting on the base plate 1, the toothed flange 14: will lie back of but close to theflange 2. Spring fingers 16 are pivotally connected to the wings 6 and are designed to lap the arms 12 and thus press theplate 13 yieldingly toward the plate 1.
The polishing cloth indicated generally at 17 is preferably formed at one end with a pocket l8 designed'to receive the slotted por t-ion of the-plate 1. The other end of the polishing cloth is adapted to be folded back over the flange 2 and onto the plate 1 and to be held thereto by swinging the plate 13 toward the plate 1 so that flange 14. will engage the cloth and press it down back of the flange 2. lVith the parts thus positioned the fingers 16 are swung over the arms 12 and the parts .will thus be held; securely together.
If desired, an ordinary cloth can be applied to the structure simply by inserting one end of the cloth' downwardly through the slot 3 and under plate 1 and then swinging the other end of said cloth under plate 1 and-back over the flange 2 after which it can be secured as hereinbefore described. The
polishing cloth '17 can be usedfor various purposes such as polishing hardwood floors and the like. An ordinary cloth can be used as a mop or for washing ceilings and the like.
The sides of the yoke'9 can be sprung inwardly toward each other, thus to withdraw the terminals -8 from the sleeves 7. Consequently a new head can be attached to the handle or the handle can be used for other purposes.
What is claimed-is:
1. The combination with a base plate having a flange along one edge thereof, of a reinforcing plate secured along the other edge thereof and having end wings, bearing sleeves integral with said wings, ,a yoke having oppositely extending terminals extending into the bearing sleeves, a handle carried by the yoke, a clamping plate pivotally connected to the sleeves, and means for engaging the clamping plate to hold it pressed toward the base plate.
' 2, The combination with abase plate havsleeves, andineans for engaging the clamp-' ing plate to hold it pressed toward the base 7 plate, said clamping plate having a longitudinal flangeadapted to be seated parallel With and close to the flange upon the base plate.
The combination with a base plate having an upstanding flange along one edge thereof, of a reinforcing plate secured along the other edge of said plate and having end Wings, bearing sleeves formed by the terminals of said wings, a pivoted yoke having its terminal portions projecting into and detachable from the sleeves, a handle connected to the yoke, a clamping plate having side arms, pintles on the arms and projecting into the sleeves, and yieldable' clamping fingers pivotally connected to the Wings and detaohably engaging the clamping plate.
4. The combination with a base plate having an upstanding flange along one edge thereof, of a reinforcing plate secured along the opposite edge of said plate and having end Wings, bearing sleeves formed by the terminals of said Wings, a yoke having its terminal portions projecting into the sleeves,
a handle connected'to the yoke, a clamping plate having side arms pivotally connected to the sleeves, and yieldable clamping fingers pivotally connected to the Wings and detachably engaging the clamping plate, said base plate having a longitudinal slot adjacent its 7 reinforcing plate. 5. The combination with a base plate having an upstanding flange along one edge thereof, of a reinforcing plate secured along;
the opposite edge of saidplate and having end Wings, bearing sleeves formed by the terminals of said Wings, a yoke having its terminal portions projecting into the sleeves,
a handle connected to the yoke, a clamping plate having side arms pivotally connected to the sleeves, and yieldable clamping fingers pivotally connected to the Wings and detachably engaging the clamping plate, there being a-toothed flange upon the clamping plate movable to position parallel With and close to the flange upon the base plate, said base plate having a longitudinal slot adjacent the reinforcing plate.
