Be itknown that I, JAMES A. TU'rHiLL, a
citizen of the United States,. residing at the cityof Los Angeles', in the county of 'Los Angeles and State of California, have iii-H vented new and useful Improvements in Lawn-Sprinklers, of which the following is a specification.
I on the line 33 of Fig. 4 as to the outer casing, and on the line 33 of Fig." 6 asto'the' My invention relates to that class of lawn sprinklers in which the water'enters the.-
spray chamber tangentially to the outlet and the object thereof is ,to provide a sprinkler of simple construction in which the spray can be. regulated or cut off at either the inlet or outlet part. i i
In the drawings forming. a; part of this application p p Figure 1 is aside elevation of. myi nproved sprinkler. r Fig. 2 is a top plan. 1 Fig. 3 isacentralverticalsection taken division plate and regulating plug. Fig. 4; is a top plan of the lower member of the outer casing. I Fig. 5 is a top plan of the and regulating plug. I
Fig. 6 is a bottom plan of the parts shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 'is a section on the line 77 of Fig.5.
Referringto the drawings: 10 is the upper member and 11 is the lower member of the casing of the sprinkler which members are connected by a screw thread connection as division plate rests upon the top of the lower member and is held positioned thereon by the upper member when the partsare assembled. This partition plate divides the interior of the easing into an inlet chamber 13, and a spray chamber 14. Communication is had between said. chambers by a plurality vof inclined ports or channels 15. To provide greater length of these channels small knobs 16 are provided preferably on the upper surfaceof the plate. On the lower. member of the easing is a boss 17 which is internally threaded forthe reception of a suitable connection,
not shown, to a source of water supply. A *2. A
through the division plate in threaded en- 'gagement therewith; In the top of this plug .i's-a socket 20 for the reception of a suitable closedby a screw plug 19 which passes shaped tool for changing the position of the plug. In. the upper member, of the casing is a central outlet port 21 which is adapted to be wholly 'or partly closed by plug 19.
port 18 permits the water to'flow into the inlet chamber and, can be .Wholly or partly Projecting upwardly from the upper surl face of the lower member of the casingare two knobs 22 Wh10l1 are adapted to be 6Il.' gaged by 'a-suitable wrenchv to screw; the
member ona pipe. The division plate may Y have a downwardly projecting lug '23Qto engage knobs 22 to prevent any of theports 15 from being obstructedby knobs 22. I have sho'wn threeports in the division-plate as I have found in practicethat number gives satisfactory results but one or more ports may be used. 1 By using a small regu: lating plug and screwing it up or .down
through the division plate I can regulate both the quantity and quality of the spray from the sprinkler and it is turned more easily than if it were larger. -By regulating the water. at port 18 the distanceto which the water will be thrown isregulated. By regulating the water at por t 21 thefineness of the spray is controlled. By dividing the casing horizontally and screwing the parts together was to hold the division plate positioned in the casing should any of the ports become'clogged the upper member can be disconnected and the ports cleaned without shown at 11 in Fig. 3. A division plate 12 inclined ports or channels and a screwthreaded opening therein;,- and a screwthreaded regulating plug mounted in said opening and being adapted to close either the inlet or the 'outlet'port.
lawn sprinkler comprising a casing composed ofparts (letachnbly connected, one
of said parts having an inlet port and the other part having an outlet port therein; a
division plate dii'iding said casing into an inlet chamber and .11 spray chamber, said ing therein; and a screw-threaded plug mounted in said central screw-threaded 10 opening and having a socket therein and beport.
ing adapted to close the inlet or the outlet In \vitnesethat I claim the foregoing have hereunto subscribed my name thisQncl day of November, 1916.
