* State of Idaho,
ful Improvements in C asters, of which the production of a stove leg with in such a manner as caster to be moved downwardly in the opera -tion of moving another, and also when the stove is at rest 1151 details of construction drawing and pointed out -claim.- 85 v ters of re erence re HENRY WALTER, or saivbnns', rnario casrn'n.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY. WALTER, a residing at in the county of Benewah and have invented new anduse= Sanders,
following is .a specification.
- The present invention contemplates the i so designed to permit of acaster being connected'thereto enable the the stove from one place to on the floor the caster will ascend within the base of the 13g.-- i A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a stove leg provided with means for operating the caster of such type as to prevent any frictional contact between the caster plate and saidmeans durin the manipulation of the latter.
urthermore, I contemplate the production of=a stove leg provided with a groove in which the handle of the operating means for thecasters-snugly fits upon theresting action of'the leg upon the floor; .With the above and other objects in view,- the'invention consists in the novel features, and combination of arts which will'hereinafter be more fully set-forth, illustrated in the accompanying in the appended Figural is leg showing the lever illustrating the lever inactive position; I
Fig, ,2 is a bottom plan view of the stove leg-showing the caster plate removed therefrom;
Fig, 3 is a section taken through line 3-3 of Fig. 1;,
, Fig. 1' is a top plan view of the leg showing the operating lever removed therefrom; Fig, 5 is a perspective view of the operating lever; and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the caster plate. Referring more particularly to the accompanyin drawing,-"nwhich like characfe'r to corresponding parts in the several views, '5 denotes the stove leg provided with a hollow base 6. Formed in the central'portion of. the front face of the stove leg is a vertical channel 7 opening out at its lower end into the long1- Specificationcf Letters Patent.
'within the base andb of the stem 18 of a front elevation of the stove eXtentof the channel tudinal slot 8" has the base 6 of',the,leg.- P i with the inner wall; oigth is a series of spaced laterall 9 presenting horizontal h caster plate lltow 1 connected, is provided w spaced. concentrically adapting the vcaster plate fY- ll w the plate, w1ll bring, thereof -to repose upo of the lugs, thus detachab, caster plate withisaid b from the drawing, Ll iW np tyipe of substantially L- hapedle v' er i l for e ecting a downward vertical movement of the caster plate within the housing when it desired to move the stove from one place to another. To this end, the horizontal head of the ever is pivotally supported on the pin 16 traversing the slot 8 of the base for operatively connecting the head of the lever in the slot of said base for a vertical swinging movement. The vertical arm '17 of said lever is of substantially T-form in cross section providing at opposite sides said lever opposite laterally extending flanges 19, thus'it will be seen when it is desired that the caster plate lever will snugly engage within the channel 7 of the leg, bringing theflanges 19 of said lever in abutting engagement with the outer .front face of the stove leg. As better shown in Fig. 3, the stem 18 is curved throughout its length to conform with the configuration or contour of the leg, consequently,=when the stem 18 is projected into the channel 7, it accommodates the stem 18 in being snugly seated therein for the full and presents a neat appearance of the lever when the same is in active position. Moreover, by the provision of the flanges l9 abutting with the front face of the stove leg 5 to opposite sides of the channel 7, serves to limit the swinging movement of the lever to caster engaging position.- The character 20 denotes 'a loop formed on the exterior portion of the arm 17 'for conveniently raising or quently when the lever is swun in a down- Ward vertical direction, it wil brmg the roller 22 into contact with the outer face of the caster plate and thus prevent any frictionalcontact of the lever with said plate,
during the manipulation of the lever in in cross section having a reduced shank and either a raised or lowered position.
From the foregoing descrlption, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the-best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and
' that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claim' appended hereto.
What is claimed as new, is: In combination with a stove leg provided a in the front face thereof with a vertically extending channel, and a hollow base provided on and beyond the lower end of the leg having a slot communicating with the channel, a caster plate movably supported in said base, an' operating lever of T-form pivotally supported in the slot of the base for causing a downward vertical movement 'of the caster-plate, the reduced shank of the operating lever being curved throughout 1ts lengthto conform with the contour of the 1e and adapted to rest in the vertically exten ing channel with the head thereof contacting with the front face of the leg.
at points to opposite sides of said channel when the leveris in caster engaging position, and a roller rotatably mounted in the lower end of the operating lever, substantially as-and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HENRY WALTER.
