LIGHT-Focusrite MECHANISM.
l Tgall inkom it may concern 'In the drawings, Figure Bie it 'Ihno'wn that -LVALTER i citizen of the United States, residing 1n the city ofPhiladelphia, county of Philadelphis and State of Pennsylvania, have invente tiertain' Improvements in Light-Focusing Mechanism, of which' the following is af speciicaticn. 'Myinvention relates to mechanism for adjustinglthe relation between sources of :light andrelieetors therefor', more especially.
, for focusing the lsaine; Fig. 2 is a 'sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Fig.- 1; Fig.
3 is a broken side elevation of a guidetube i with a lamp socket therein in illustrationi dt' details employed in the structure shown in.
Figs. 1 and 2; Fig. 4 is a rear elevation` of y a modified form of lamp socket in combina- 'tion with a guide and `adjustinglever; and
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the-construction shown 1n Fig. 4.
. My invention is here illustrated as ernb'odied in a headlight comprising a case 1 containing a parabolic reflector 2 which has a guide tube 3 fixed at its vertex, the reflector and tube preferably having approximately coincident axes.
` An insulating lamp socket 4 is held in the l' tube 3, the tube being provided with resilient iingers 3 struck ont of the metal thereof and frictionally engaging the socket so that it is adjustable in the tube to adjust, with relation to the reliector, the incandescent lamp 5 carried by the socket.
A lever 6, for adjusting the socket 4, has one ond thereof connected` by a pivot or cotter pin 7, with a bearing S, which is fixed,
within the case 1, to the back l thereof. The lever has, at its end opposite that held by the pivot 7, a longitudinal slot 6',

- Y through which passes a lpivot or Cotter pin.v S. MAYER, a; 9, the latterbeing connected with especial 2go-nut or block 10. The device 10 forms part of the lever and is movable along the engaging interior of the casing', being provided with the bifurcations 10 forminga -yoke for receiving the bifurcations of the lever formed by the slot 6. i
y 'A threaded boltll, which'passesthrough and has the-function of adjusting the position of the nut 10, is provided with a reduced'.
part 11', which 4is journaled in andr held against longitudinal movement by a bearing 1" in the back of the casing. The forward end of the bolt passes through the flange 12, iixed inthecasing as a support for the re- .ector and having 'a bearing 12. within whichthe bolt is journaled. and hasthe'slot 1l for the engagement of a screw driver,
the end off the bolt containing the'slot being made accessible b'y openingthe'front 1a of the headlightjor disenga'ging its catch 13 andi-,turning it on its hinge-14. j--The lever 6 is provided. with the bifurcations G which forni, between its ends, a.v
socket 4 is provided with integrally formedv .oppositely disposed lugs 4, which are mov- 4 able in tlie-longitudii1ial 4ways '3 ot the tube 3, the lugs containingthe open channels 4 @for the passing of the wires l5 for connect-- ing the lamp 5 in circuit.
the Hanges 1'6" having the respective lugsl 16al thereon which are engaged .in holes 6 of the respective biiinrcations 6,.Whereby the lever G is provided` with a rocking engagement in relation to and is adapted for movingthe socket 4 longitudinally in the tube 3. The bifurcations (3 contain the apertures 6l for the passage of the wires 15. i
As illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, the sockets.
4 may be provided with lugs lformed integrally therewith and extending through the slots 3 of the tube 3 and the longitudinal slots 6 of the bifurcations 6, thus effecting a direct rocking engagement ot the lever 6 with the socket 4 Without the intervention of the yokes i6. These ings are provided wiih the open channels lfb for the passage of the lmnp wire?, l5 therethrough and through the' slots 6c.
It will be nndertiiod from the foregoing` desoripion that the desiderzitnin of providing for focusing 'the lamp from its front is eiierted, in the forni `ehcnvn. by opening the front l oit 'the headlight and turning' iho bolty ll. the latter rocking the iioxible lever forinod .by the parte G and i() ind *moving the socket d in the tubo coe'eot the inovey nient of the source of lilg'htfulong; the axis of the reieetor 2 to the `desired position.
Having described inyjnvontion, I Chinn:
