IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,198, dated June 18, 1872.

The sirup To all whom it may concern: a is used to sweeten and render the compound Be it known that I, JULIUS CAHN, or selma, in the county of Dallas and State of Alabama, have invented a certain new and useful Medical Compound, which I denominate Gahns Fever and Ague Cure, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, 'and exact description of the manner of compounding the same.
The ingredients composing themedicine are as follows: Ohinoidine, cinchonine, (cinchonium sulphwicmm) or sulphate of cinchona, pure whisky, and a suitable sirup.
These ingredients are compounded in or in about the proportions herein given: Ohinoidine, two and one-half drams; cinchonine, twenty grains; Whisky, three ounces; sirup, one table-spoonful.
The effect of the several ingredients is as follows: The chinoidine is to remove the bile and to restore a healthy action to the liver. The cinchonine is to abate and prevent fever. The whisky is to dissolve the above and extract therefrom their strength, while it also more palatable.
The medicine, as compounded, soon frees the system from bile by causing it to be thrown from the stomach or passed therefrom through the bowels, as it possesses also a gentle purgative property. Thus the return of the fever incident to the disease is prevented, and, its use being continued, the cause of the disease is completely removed, a healthy tone imparted to the action of the liver, and health and vigor are restored.
Having described my invention, I claim- The medical compound herein described, composed of the ingredients in, or in about, the proportions given, for the cure of chills and fever.
