BRACKET FOR DRUMMERS TRAPS.
APPLICATION FILED 1uLY2s. 1919.
1,363,.231. Patented Dec. 28,1920.
PATENT OFFICE...
ROBERT C. DANLY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BRACKET FOB DRUMMERS"TRAPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. as, mac.
Application filed July 26, 1919. Serial No. 313,560.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT C. DANLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Drummers Traps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My present invention relates to a holder or bracket for so-called traps used by a drummer in a band or orchestra.
In the modern band or orchestra many traps are employed to lend novelty and attractiveness to the jazz or syncopated dance music. The drummer is kept busy playing the bass and snare drums, the tom- 'tom, blocks of different tone, cow bells of different tone, etc. It is essential that these instruments be arranged so as not to interfere with one another while at the same time be readily accessible to the performer. They should be easily adjustable in position, and capable of being rapidly changed or replaced by some other trap or instrument The object of my invention is to simplify the mounting and arrangement of these drummers traps or instruments, and in carrying out this object I employ a novel form of bracket or holder which will be hereinafter described, and the novel features of which will be more specifically set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a partial end elevation of a drum equipped with my improved bracket or holder on which are mounted some of the traps;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the drum and bracket with certain of the traps removed and others shown in partial section;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the bracket; and
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the bracket, parts being broken away and in sectlon along the line fir-*4: of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings, the bracket or holder 5 includes a rigid metal strip 6, having its front end bent into a hooked portion 7 and provided with a clamp 8 for fastening the holder solidly to the hoop 9 of the bass drum 10. The opposite end of this strip is inclined upwardly and rearwardly at 11, and is perforated to receive a clamping bolt 12 upon which 1s mounted a plurality of adjustable arms 13, each of which is provided with a hooked end portion 14 and a clamp 15, to which may be attached cow-bells such as shown at 16, or a tom tom such as shown at 17, or any desired instrument or trap. These arms are radlally arranged and may be adjusted into any deslred position about the clamping bolt 12, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and then held rigidly in the position of ad ustment. One or more of these arms may be used as desired. The clamping bolt 12 is preferably inclined so as to render the instruments or traps carried by the arms 13 readily accessible to the performer.
Extending forwardly and downwardly from the clamping bolt 12 is a longer arm 18 provided at its forward end with a clampmg member, preferably in the form shown, w1th a curved portion 19 adapted to receive the reduced middle portion 2l of a two-tone wooden tubular bell or block 22, which is held in place by the clamping screw 20. This arm is also adjustable about the bolt 12, and may be used alone or together with the other adjustable arms, as desired. The vibration deadening felt washer 23 may be provided on the clamping bolt between the end of the long arm 18 and the adjacent short arm 13. Furthermore, a projecting pin 24 may be provided, if desired. From this pin may be suspended a triangle 25, or other instrument.
By means of my improved bracket or' holder may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
1. A bracket or holder for drummers traps, comprising a rigid member having a clamp at one end for fastening it to a sup port, a clamping bolt carried at its opposite end, and a plurality of trap supporting arms arranged radially with respect to said bolt and adjustable about said bolt relatively to each other and to said rigid member, each of said arms being provided with a hooked end portion and a clamping member coiiperating with said hooked end portion.
2. A bracket or holder for drummers traps, comprising a rigid member having a 10 a plurality of readily detachable and adjustable arms held in position on said member by said bolt, each of said arms being provided with a trap holding clamp, and a longer arm extending forwardly and downwardly, and provided at its forward end 15 with a clamp adapted to support a drummers block. V
. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ROBERT C. DANLY.
