TILE-BLOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1921.
Application led October 28, 1918. Serial No. 259,963.
T o al1/whom# may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHIAS DOCHNAL, a citizen of the United States. residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tile-Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
Iy present invention consists in an improved building tile block of special novel` construction` and has for its object to provide a tile block which can be cheaply manufactured by reason of its shape and be practical for any style of wall structure such, for instance, as chimneys, tanks, silos and the like.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and finally pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanying dra-wings, forming a partI of this specification wherein like characters of reference denotesimilar parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a tile block formed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2, is an end view thereof.
Fig. 3, is a sectional view of the tile taken on line X-X of Fig. l.
In carrying out the aim of my present invention, I form a tile block consisting of the inner wall section l and the outer wall section 2. The inner and outer wall sections are united by means of a central cross-wall 3 having the upper curved, or concaved face 4. The uniting cross-wall 3 is so shaped as to form a semicircular opening 5 at each end of the tile block.
The inner face of the inner and outer wall sect-ions l and 2 are each provided with 'a facial rib 6 formed at each end of the wall sections arranged in opposed relation and extending into the semicircular openings 5 to provide a cont-ractcd end opening or space 7 at each end of the tile. One face of each of the ribs 6 is beveled, as at 8 and the upper face of each rib 3 is curved or concaved, as at 8, to conform to the curvature of the upper face of the uniting cross-wall 3. This curved upper .face permits the use of horizontal reinforcing rods being used in a Wall structure.
This form of tile block, it will be observed, is substantially I-shaped in formation and can be easily and cheaply made and handled.
IVhen these tile-blocks are laid in end to end relation in a wall structure, it will be understood that a substantially circular opening will be formed at the break joint of adjacent tile due to two semicircular end openings being arranged side by side. The two adjacent tile blocks Vin a course are adapted to be interlocked end for end through the medium of a cement filling placed in the opening to form a solid core or column on each side of the central crosswall as is manifest.
The many advantages of the herein described invention will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
I do not desire to be understood limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangementas herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and the terms of the following claim, hence I wish it to be understood that I reserve the right to make any such changes or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim when fairly construed.
That I claim is:
A tile block comprising an inner wall section and an outer wall section, a central crosswall uniting said inner and outer wall sections, said cross-wall having concaved end faces to gradually strengthen its union with the inner and outer wall sections and provide a semi-circular opening at each end of the tile block, a facial rib formed at each extremity of the inner and outer wall section, said ribs each having a beveled inner face uniting with the ends of the cross-wall, said ribs extending inwardly in opposed pairs into the semi-circular end openings of the tile block to provide broad end faces for t-he tile block, said cross-wall and said facial ribs each having their upper face concaved.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to the specification.
MATHIAS DOCHNAL.
