Description

F14 Inverter a? Or 17 l3] v PM I fl J CRAIG DETACHABLE HEEL Flled July 2 1923 is m S Jan. 1 1924 Patented Jan. 1, 1924.
AmEs CRAIG, or ALEXANDRIA, NEAR sYiJNEY, NEwsoUrn'wALFs. AUs'riiA IA. I
DETACHABLE HEEL.
Application filed m 2,
' To all whom it may concern."
, the pad appearing to be integral with the Be it known that JAMES CRAIG, a subject of'the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 38 Copeland Street, Alexandria, near Sydney, New South Wales, Commonwealth of Australia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Heels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in holding devices of detachable heel pads for boots and shoes and has been especially devised to provide devices of cheap and simple manufacture for fixing to the heel and heel pad whereby the heel pad is quickly, easily and rigidly afiixed to the heel of a boot'or shoe and as quickly removed and replaced or another substituted therefor also to provide that when the heel pad is in place the device will not be objectionably noticeable heel as ordinary.
In order that this invention maybe clearly understood and .carried into practical effect it will now be described with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this complete specification. Fig. 1 is aperspective view of a square heel for a boot or shoe and pad therefor detached from one another. Fig. 2 a view similar to Fig. 1
- with the pad in wearing position slightly exaggerated in parts; Fig. 3 an inverted view of the pad for a square-heel; Fig. 4 a I medial longitudinal sectional elevation through a square heel and pad therefor; Fig. 5 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the invention applied to a heel of substantially circularhorizontal cross-section; Fig. 6 an inverted plan view of the pad shown in Fig. 5; and Fig. 7 a broken sectional view of the pad shown in Fig. 5. Although the devices shown in the drawings are those generally for feminine use these present improvements apply equally as well to masculine footwear.
Referring toFigss-l to 4 of the draw- 1ngs:- Y l One element of these holding devices 18 the plate 5 with a curved or heel contoured inturned flange 6 a straight edge or front 7 and on its fiat base, a mortice catch 8 with a raised edge or stop 9 and it is shaped com plementary to the heel 10 to which it is fixed by screws 11. The other element is the plate 12 with a'curved or heel contoured oilset edge 13 and a straight edge or front 14 with a spring tongued stop carrier 15 fast 1923."SerialNo.649,122.
inwardly of the inturned flange 6 or lugs of I the plate 5'and as the pad juxtaposes with the heel the stop 16 is allowed by the resiliency of its carrier 15 to house in the mortice catch 8 and thepad'is thus firmly fixed to the heel. To withdraw the pad the obtruding end 17 of the carrier 15 is pressed towards the pad which action withdraws stop 16 from.thesaid mortice 8 and the' plate 12 may be pushed past it and with the pad slid clear of the heel.
With reference to Figs. 5 to 7 wherein the invention is illustrated in connection with a substantially circular heel The plates 23 and 24in the said figures are identical. in construction to the. plates 5 and 12 shown in Figs. 1 to 4. excepting that the I flange 25 of the plate 23 is foreshortened, and the plate 24 is formed with an inturned flange 26 adapted to seat against the foreshortenedfiange 25 of the plate 23 when the two plates 23 and 24 are placedin wearing position on the curved heel 27; the plate 24 is thus prevented from turning on the plate 23.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a'shoe heel memher having a plane unbroken lower surface and a heel lift member having a plane unbroken upper surface, of a flat plate secured to and conformlngto the shape of one of said members and having an inturned edge .flange formingacurved pocket, a second flat plate secured to the other one of said members and of substantially the same shape as the lastmentioned. member, said second plate having its edge portion offset to provide a curved projection adapted to be inserted into said circularpocket, one of said 4 plates having a cut out ortion providing a ocking edge, and the ot er plate being slit longitudinally to provide a locking tongue having its free edge extending to the front of the heel to permit operation of'the same integral from the front of the heel, and a 113;
