Be it know that I, EDWARD G. K OWLES, a citizen of the United States, residing at city, county,"and State of New York," have invented new and useful Improvements in Games,-o-f which the following is a specifica- This invention relates to shooting games wherein are employed objects to be struck by a projectile or missile thrown or shot by an instrument as, for instance, a cork pro-- jected by the usual pop-gun.

The main object of the present invention is to provide a practical and realistic target device whereby the game is rendered attractive and the interestin it is enhanced.

A. further object of the invention is to provide a game of the character indicated which shall be simple inconstruction, easy to set up and operate.

A further object ofthe' invention is to pro-- vide' a game'of the class described which shall, while giving an extensive View or scene, be capable of folding or collapsing intocompact proportions.

Other and ancillary objects of the invention will appear hereinafter.

Referring to the drawings, the box 1' has hinged thereto the lid 2 inany suitable manner. Extending upwardly from the bottom of the box are representations 3and 4' of rocks which are hinged to the bottom of the box so that they may be folded'down when it is'desired to close up the game and put it away; Also hinged to the line 3-3 of 6, the frontsurfaces of which are in substantially the same planes respectively, and upon these front surfaces are painted the de sired scenes. scenic members are held in upright positions by means of struts as 9 hinged totheir backs sothat they may be folded up fiat against the scenic members and to these struts are secured strings 10, the other ends of which. are secured to the lidso'that as the lid isopened the struts will be extended and the scenic members drawn into upright position.

Extending from the lid is a hanger book 11 from which isswung the representation of a bird 12 holding its prey. The hook 11 may be hinged to swing laterally. in-closing the box or 'it may be made so short that it will not interfere with the closing of the lid.

Hinged tothe back of the scenic member 5 are shelves 13 and 14:, these shelves being 1 adapted. to be heldin extended position by the'flaps 115 and 16 hinged to the ends of the shelves. This hinging permits of the collapsing of the shelves flatly against the scenic member in packing the device in the box. Standing upon these shelves respectively are the members representing the bear 1'5 and tiger 16,-while mounted upon the member 6 by means of the spring 17 is the object 18 representative of a lion, all of these animals being in the attitude of approaching their prey beneath them, namely thev deer 19-' standing upon the bottom of the box. The bear-15,'tiger 16 and the deer 19 are not fixed totheir supports but merely rest upon them so that when a missile strikes the bear or tiger is is knocked off the shelf and also they may be conveniently placed in packing. Also the lion is movably mounted by'means of the spring so that when struck by a missile this is indicated by its movement, but it resumes its original position and does not require to be replaced by hand.

Also the eagle 12 when struck by a missile swings to indicate that fact, but resumes its normal position automatically.

At the front of the box a compartment is formed by means of the partition 20 within which may be placed a. pop-gun 21 and a supply of corks 22.

Supported at the front of the lid is a net of mosquito netting 23 or other suitable material which will catch the shot corks with a cushioning impact so that the corks will fall almost directly downward instead of bouncing about the room and also the noise of impact will be reduced.

All of the articles being folded within the box and the lid being closed down tight, as will be the proper condition of the game when not in use, if it be desired to place the game in operation the lid is raised there by drawing the members 5 and 6 into upright position and the parts 7 and 8 are swung laterally outward. The animals 15 and 16 are then placed in position on their respective shelves and the deer is placed in suitable position. The gun and corks having been taken out the game is played by endeavoring to hit the lion, bear, tiger or eagle with a projected cork. If either of the animals 15 or 16 is struck this will be indicated by its being knocked off the shelf as it is not secured thereto. The striking of the eagle will result in its swinging While the lion will move backwardly on its spring when struck and will, after some vibration, resume its normal position.

When it is no longer desired touse the game, the gun and corks may be placed in the'compartment as referred to, the parts 7 and 8 may be. folded inwardly against the main portions of the scenic members 5 and 6, the members 3 and 4 are folded down against the bottom of the box, the loose animals, such as 15, 16 and 19 may be laid down fiatwise upon the bottom of the box, the hanger hook 11 may be folded against the topof the lid and then when the lid is closed down the members 5 and 6 will folddown or collapse into the box. The box then being. closed, the device may be put away in compact form.

While the invention has been illustrated in what is considered its best application it may have other embodments without departing from its spirit and is not therefore limited to the structures shown in the drawings,

What I claim is:

1. In a shooting game, the combination with a box having a lid, of scenic members and members representing animatev objects, said members being mounted on said box and said scenic members having certain dimensions greater than certain dimensions of said box. whereby they are'adapted, when said lid is opened, tobe expanded beyond the confines of the box, said objects being exposed so as to be struck by a projectile from the front of the game, and said scenic members having other dimensions less than certain dimensions of said box whereby they are adapted to be collapsed within said box and lid when closed.

5. In a shooting, game, the combination with a box having a lid, of scenic members.

and members representing animate objects, said members being1mounted on said box, said scenic members being hinged to said boxand having. certain dimensions greater than certain dimensions of said box whereby they are'adapted, when said lid is opened, to be expanded beyond the confines of the box and said objects being exposed so as to be struck by a projectile from the front of the game, and said scenic members having and members representing animate objects mounted on said box, said objects being mounted in position so as to exposed to be struck by projectiles from the front and said lid forming a backstop for projectiles aimed at said objects, and means for cushioning the impact of the projectiles.

8. In a shooting game the combination with a box having a lid, of scenic members and members representing animate objects exposed so as to be struck by projectiles from the front, said members having certain dimensions greater and certain other dimensions less than certain dimensions of said box whereby they are adapted to be collapsed within the box and lid when closed and to be expanded beyond the confines of the boxwhen the lid is opened, and operative means whereby the movement of the lid in opening operates to move said members into expanded position.

9. In a shooting game the combination with a box having a lid of scenic members mounted upon the box and a member representing an animate object suspended in swinging relation to said lid' and exposed so as to be struck by a missile from the front.

10. Ina shooting game the combination with a box having a lid, of substantially flat scenic members having the scenery depicted thereon on substantially plane surfaces, said flat members bein hinged to said box and adapted to be folded therein or raised into operative position as desired.

11. In a shooting game the combination with a box having a lid, of substantially flat scenic members havin the scenery depicted thereon on substantial y plane surfaces, said flat members being hinged to said box and adapted to be folded therein or'raised into operative position as desired, and members representing animate objects mounted upon said scenic members.

12, In a shooting game the combination with a box having a lid, of substantially fiat scenic members having the scenery depicted thereon on substantially plane surfaces, said flat members being hinged to said box and adapted to be folded therein or raised into operative position as desired, and means for operating saldscenic members by the movement of said 11d.

13. In a shooting game the combination with a box having a lid, of substantially flat scenic members having the scenery depicted thereon on substantiallyrplane surfaces, said fiat members being hinged to said box and adapted to be folded therein or raised into operative position as desired, and members representing animate objects mounted upon said scenic members, and means for operating said scenic members by the movement of said lid.
