To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Cinemas H. J U L, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ben Avon, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power Saws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to saws, and, while not limited thereto, relates more particularly to power meat saws for use by butchers and has for its object a saw of this character adapted to be mounted on a butchersblock, table or other meat support and to have a universal movement relative thereto.
Another object is to provide a saw of this character which is devoid of all flexible shafts or other flexible power conducting means, and receives its power directly through gearing from a motor carried by the saw frame.
A still further object is to provide a saw of this class having the novel construction, combination and design of parts hereinafter described in detail and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a saw, constructed in accordance with this invention, mounted on a butchers block.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged side elevation thereof showing the details of the saw mounting.

Referringmore particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates the butchers block or table, which may be of any well known and usual design generall used for supporting meat during the cutting operations.
A pair of brackets 2 and 3 are secured to the. rear face of the block A and support a 50 pair of rail or track rods 4 and 5 adapted to carry the saw. A. wheeled carrier comprising a body portion 6 and supporting portion 8 and a shank portion 9 is pivotally mounted on the carrier body 6 by having its shank portion 9 fitted withina vertical recess in the body 6 so as to provide fora horizontal swinging movement of said sup-,
porting member. A circular housing member 10 having a bracket portion 11 projecting forwardly from its bottom, has its bracket portion pivotally secured to the head and permit said frame to be turned about its I horizontal axis to various'angular positions, A friction piece 20 is mounted in a recess in the housing 10 and is adapted to be forced downinto engagement with the mounting; disk 17 by a screw 21 to lock the saw frame in its adjusted angular positions.
A shaft 23 is journaled in a bearing 24 in the rear end portion 15 of the frame B and a head band wheel or pulley 25 on the inner end thereof and a beveled gear 26' on; its
outer end. The wheel or pulley 25 is the power wheel or pulley for operating the saw blade 27 and receives its power from a mo-- tor 28 supported on a bracket 29 mounted on the rear face of the disk 17 of the saw frame. The motor 28 has its armature shaft 30 provided with a pinion gear 31 which is in mesh with the beveled gear 26.
An idler band wheel or pulley 3-2 is mounted for free rotation on a shaft 33 mounted in a longitudinally adjustable bearing 34 mounted in. a. suitable slot 35 in the forward end portion 16 of the saw frame B. The bearing 34: isadapted to be adjusted by a threaded. adjusting rod 35a threaded in a nut 36 fixed to the portion 16 of the saw frame.
The continuous band saw blade 27 is trained around the wheels or pulleys 25 and 32 and is passed through blade turning de-- vices 37 and 38 secured to each of the end portions 15 and 16 so that the cutting portion of the blade 27 between the end pieces 15 and 16 is turned in a vertical position.

The plate 39 is secured in position by stud screws i0 pass ing through vertically arranged slots ll in the plate and screwed into a bracket 42 on the portion 15 of the saw frame, so as to provide a limited vertical movement of the plate when the saw frame is moved ortilted upwardly. The plate 39 is also provided with a vertically arranged slot 44, through which the saw blade 27 passes.
The saw frame 13 has a handle member 415 on its forward end, which preferably has a control switch for the motor mounted thereinand operated by the trigger 46. The control switch is not shown, since it may be of any standard construction and forms no In "operation, the saw frame is movable bodily along the track rails or rods 4 and 5 by means of the wheeled carrier and, therefore, may be moved to diiferent positions along the article being sawed. The pivotal connection between the shank 9 of the supporting member and the carrier perinits the saw frame to be-swung to various horizontal angular positions, and the pivotal connection at 12 between the head 8 of the supporting member and housing 10 permits the saw frame to be swung vertically to various angular positions, thus permitting a limited universal movement of the saw frame. In addition to the universal movement ofthe saw frame, the frame may be turned about its longitudinal axis to various angular positions, due to the mounting of the disk 17 in the housing 10.
Normally the saw frame is held in raised position. That is, the housing 10 and saw frame B are rocked about the pivotal connection 12 so as to elevate the saw frame above the top of the block or table A, as The motor 28 is normally of sufficient weight to raise the saw frame into this normal position. However, it will be understood that if desired suitable oounterweights may be employed if the weight of the motor is insufficient.
While I have shown and described only one specific embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited thereto since various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim 1. A power meatl saw comprising in combination a track, a wheeled carrier mounted on said trackand adapted to move longitudinally thereof, a-supporting member pivotally mounted on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement, a housing pivotally mounted on said supporting member for vertical swinging movement, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be turned to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in-said housing, a pair vof band wheels journaled adjacent the opposite ends of said frame, a band saw trained around said band wheels, a motor secured to the rear face of said mounting disk, and suitable drive connections between said motor and at-least one ofsaid band wheels. y 1

The combination with a butchers block, table,"bencl1 or the like, "of a track rigidly secured along one side thereof, a wheeled carrier mounted on said track and adapted to move longitudinally thereof, a supporting member pivotally mounted on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement, a housing pivotally'mounted on said supporting member for vertical swinging move-j ment, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be turned to various angular positions, said saw support i comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in said housing, a pair of band wheels journaled adjacent the opposite ends of saidframe, a band saw trained around said' band wheels, a motor secured to the rear of said mounting disk, and suitable drive connections between saidmotor and at least one of said band wheels.

A power meat. saw comprising in combination a fined track,,a carrier mounted on said track and adapted to move longitudinally thereof, a supporting member pivotally mounted on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement, a housing pivotally mounted on said supporting member for vertical swinging movement, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be turned to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in said housing, a saw blade mounted in said frame, a motor secured to the rear face of said mounting disk, and suitable operating connection between said motor and said saw blade.

The combination with a butchers block table, bench or the like, of a track rigidly secured along one side thereof, a carrier mounted on said track and adapted to move longitudinally thereof, a supporting member pivotally mounted on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement, a housing I pivotally mounted on said supporting member for vertical swinging movement, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be revolved about its longitudinal axis to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in said housing, a saw blade mounted in said frame, a motor secured to the rear face of said mounting disk, and suitable drive connec tions between said saw blade and said motor.

A power meat saw comprising in combiiiation, a carrier member, a supporting member pivotally mounted directly on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement, a housing pivotally mounted directly on said supporting member for vertical swinging movement, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be revolved about its longitudinal axis to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in said housing, and a saw blade operatively mounted in said frame.
7. A power meat saw comprising in combination, a carrier member, a supporting member pivotally mounted directly on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement,
a housing pivotally mounted directly on said supporting member for vertical swinging movement, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be revolved about its longitudinal axis to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and' volubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be revolved about its longitudinal axis to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in said housing, operatively mounted in said frame. 1

The combination with a meat support, of a track secured along one side thereof, a carrier mounted on said track and adapted to move longitudinally thereof, a supporting member pivotally mounted directly on said carrier for horizontal swinging movement, a housing pivotally mounted directly on said supporting member for vertical swinging movement, and a saw support revolubly mounted in said housing and adapted to be revolved about its longitudinal axis to various angular positions, said saw support comprising an elongated frame member having a mounting disk on its rear end and mounted in said housing, a saw blade operatively mounted in said frame, and power means for operating said saw blade.
