UNITED STATES ARTHUR BURDELL, OF ATLANTA, G-EUREi-IA, ASSIGNOR T ARTE-IUR S. G'ILMAN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
MANIFOLD FORM.
Application filed Uctober 8, 1924. Serial No. 742,285.
1'. 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ARTHUR Bunnnnt, a citizen of the United States, resident of Atlanta, county of Fulton, and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Manifold Express Forms, of which the following is a specification, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which 1 have contemplated applying that principle,
so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
My invention relates to multiple forms, and particularly to a modification of the form shown, described and claimed in the application for United States Letters Patent filed by me August th, 1924, and bearing Serial Number 733,995.
The object of the invention is to prevent the unpremeditated separation of those parts of the form which are detached from the package after the latter has reached its destination.
The said invention consists of means hereinafter fully decribed and particularly set forth in the claims.
The annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail certain means embodying my invention, the disclosed means, however, constituting but one of the various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be employed.
In said annexed drawing:
Figure 1 represents a front perspective view of those parts of a form (loosely folded) embodying my invention, and which are to be attached to the package to be shipped.
Fig. 2 represents a vlew similar to that of Fig. 1, but as seen from the back.
Fig. 3 represents a plan of the form, folded compactly and as it would appear when attached to the package, a frag mentary portion of the latter being also shown.
Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of that part of the form which is detached from the package after arriving at its destination. I
Referring to the illustrated embodiment of my invention, the form when ready to be attached to the package, consists of one end member 2, an intermediate member 3 and a second end member 7, each provided with the required printed mat-.
extremity of such pasted or joined structure 13 is defined by a line of perforations 4, parallel with connection 1. A second line of perforations 14 parallel with. line 4. traverses the pasted structure 13 and is preferably located nearor said line 4 than to connection 1 as shown.
The parts 2 and 3 are of like area. Part 2 consists of the )asted portion 2 and the free portion 5. Part 3 consists of the pasted portion 8 and the free portion 6. The line or connection 1. between the ends of the parts 3 and 7 is preferably perforated.
The three parts are folded so as to enclose portion 5 between portion 6 of the intermediate part 3 and part 7 as indicated in Fig. 2.
The form being compactly folded as above described, paste is now applied to the package over an area at least as great as that of the part 2, and the back of the form applied thereto. This will cause the back of form 7 and that portion of the back of part 2 which is exposed, that is the part which lies between the line 14 and the line 1., and hence the whole structure, to be secured to the package, whereupon tl'ic latter will be ready for shipment.
When such package is received at its destination, the parts 3 and 7 are separated along the line 1, Fig. 8, and then the attached two parts 5 and 6 detached from the secured portion of both such parts, along the line 14, they however still, after such detachment, being attached to each other at the area lying between lines 4 and 14, as shown in Fig. 4.
These two parts then remain secured to each other until they are detached at the required predetermined time.
It will be understood that additional parts such as 11 and 12 may be enclosed between portion 6 and part 7, and as indicated by dotted line in Fig. 2.
hat I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, three sheets connected end to end; two of said sheets having a portion of their areas joined to each other-face to face; the third sheet being of less area than one of the other two.
2. In a device of the class described, three sheets connected end to end; two of said sheets having a portion of their adjacent areas joined to each other face to face; the third sheet being of less area than the intermediate sheet; the joined sheets having-a weakened line whereby part of same may be separated from the joined portion thereof.
' 3. In adevice of the character described, three sheets connected end to end; two of said sheets having a portion of their adjacent areas joined to each other face to face and provided with two weakened lines, one of which traverses the joined portions of said sheets.
4. In a device of the character described,
three sheets connected end to end, two of said sheets having aportion of their adjacent areas joined to each other face to face and provided with two weakened lines, one of which defines the end and the other of which traverses the joined portions of said sheets,
5. In a device of the character described, three sheets connected end to end, two of said sheets having aportion of their adjacent areas joined to-each other face to face and provided with two weakened lines, one of which traverses the joined portions of said sheets, the other line traversing the free portions of such sheets.
6. In a device of the character described, three sheets connected end to end and folded so that the intermediate sheet is on the outside and one end sheet between said intermediate sheet and the other end sheet; those end portions of said intermediate and em closed sheet, which are contiguous to the connection, being pasted to each other; said latter two sheets being traversed by two lines of perforations, one adjacent to the inner end of the joined portion thereof and the other lying interinediately of the outer end of such portion and said first-named line.
Signed by me this 23rd day of September, 1924.
ARTHUR BURDELL.
