This invention relates to improvements in that class of devices embodying means to assist and aid a baby or child learning to walk including provision for converting the device into a crib or bed.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a combined supporting device and crib or bed which may be easily transported, set up or closed and which may be used for various purposes for the convenience of a baby or child desiring to learn to walk, recline or in a sitting position.

Another object of my invention is to provide a supporting device and crib construct- 5 ed and arranged with the view of safety to the child whether in the act of learning to walk or whenv the device is used. as a crib and which cannot readily be overturned or moved from its position by the child.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character above specified which is extremely simple in construction, consisting of but few parts, light in weight but strong and durable, easily assembled and transported conveniently, ca-

pable of being made of different grades of material and in various dimensions and otherwise inexpensive to manufacture whereby its commercial possibilities may be enhanced.

In order to more fully understand. and appreciate my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing showing a. preferred embodiment thereof in which 5 Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing one of the uses of my invention.

Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device when used to assist and aid a child learning to walk.

Fig. 3 is a detail of the end supporting legs and the rail guide.

Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throu hout the several views, 5, 6 designate the end cross legs or supports which are adapted to be connected substantially intermediate their ends to be opened or set up in the manner shown'by Figs. 1

and 2 or folded so that the legs are arranged contiguous for convenience in transportation in the manner and for the urpose further to be set forth. The end egs or supports are connected at the bottom by suitable brace bars 7, 8 either of which may constitute a foot rail for instance.

Connected to the top of theend cross legs or supports are-two connecting rods or bars 9; 10 which also provide a means for receiving a plurality of rings 11 orother fastening devices attached to, connected or fastened to a strip of canvas, pad-or sheeting whereby the device may be used as achilds bed or crib. "It will thus be seen that when it is desired to .perm'it the child to stander walk, the strip of canvas zp'ad or; sheeting I may be moved to one end of the rods or bars in the manner shown by Fig. 2 of the draw- It is preferable that the canvas, sheeting or pad may be removed so that it can be laundered or replaced as desired. I also provide a toprail 13 connecting the end supporting legs for each side of the device and held in the guide brackets 14, the top of each bracket extending over the top of the said legs so that in one position the top rail prevents a child from rolling over the bars 9, 10 and in a second position constitutes a rail or support for the child by which he may move and guide himself during the initial steps while learning to walk.

In order to stabilize the entire device and prevent the possibility of its being overturned, end posts 15 connected by a top cross bar 16 are provided. A single bolt having thumb nut 17 asses through the respective end posts and t e supporting legs. Each end post is slotted as at 18 being connected to the pivoted links 19, 20 by a bolt and thumb nut passing through the said slot. 1 When the thumb nuts are loosened, the end support ng legs may be closed so as to lie in parallelism with the end posts permitting the device to be trans orted conveniently.

Attac ed to the end posts I provide suitable hooks 21 to which is connected a guide wire 22 and turnbuckle 23. A roller 24 and resilient element 25 may be attached to a suitable safety belt 26 for supporting the child either in the standing or sitting position yet permit freedom of movement between the ends of the dev ce.

Having shown and descrlbed my 1nvent1on what I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent of the U. S. is:

1. A device of the class described comprising end supporting members, top and bottom brace bars connected to the end supporting members, a rail on the top of the supporting members, aflexible element connected to the top bars whereby the device may be converted into a crib, end posts and a top crossbar connected to the end supporting members and means including a safety belt movable between the end posts for supporting a child during the act of walking when the flexible element is not in use.

2. A device of the class described comprising end supports,: top and bottom brace bars connected to the supports, a flexible element connected to the top brace ba rs whereby the device may be converted into a crib, end posts having a top cross connecting bar connected to the end supports whereby the latter may be folded between said posts, pivoted" links adj ustably connecting the end supports with the posts and means including a safety belt for supporting a child during the act of walking: when the flexible element is moved tonne side. 7

3. A device of the class described comprising folding end supports, top and bot tom brace bars connected to the supports, a movable, flexible sheet 01' pad connected to the top brace bars, whereby the device may be converted into a crib, end posts and a top cross connecting bar, a single bolt passing through the end posts and the end supports, pivoted links connecting the end supports with each end post whereby the said supports may be folded between and contiguous to the posts, guide members and top rails for each end support, a guide wire between the end posts and a safety belt movable on the guide wire for supporting a child during the act of walking between the end posts when the flexible element is not in use.
