Description

' A. M GREEN PEN AND PENCIL HOLDER May 14, 1929.
Filed Feb. 24, 1928 fire-rial! reerq l VENTOR ATTO R N EY Patented May 1 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
AZABIA M. GREEN, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
PEN AND PENCIL HOLDER.
Application filed February 24, 1928. Serial No. 256,649.
This invention relates to a holder for.
fountain pens, pencils and the like, the gen eral object of the invention being to provide means whereby the holder can be easily and quickly fastened to a part of the garment of the wearer, the holder being so formed as to clamp the pen or pencil therein.
' This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the holder, showing the same in use with a fountain pen.
Figure 2 is a rear View of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side view of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
In these views, the numerals 1 and 2 indicate a pair of substantially semi-cylindrical members which have tongues 3 formed on their rear edges, the tongues being bent around the stationary bar of a safety pin 4, so that the two members are hingedly connected with the pin. A coil spring 5 is placed on said bar between the tongues and has its ends contacting the two members so that the spring tends to move the two members toward each other. Wings 6 are formed on the outer edges of the members and extend outwardly and rearwardly, as shown.
Thus it will be seen that a fountain pen, such as shown at A in the'drawings, or a pencil or similar article can be placed between the two members and the spring will cause the two members to grip the article. As portions of the hinge extend within the space formed by the two members, the pen or other article rests against said portion, which acts to prevent the pen from moving longitudinally. The wings enable the device to be opened to permit the pen or other article to be removed therefrom, and I prefer to make these wings in the form of butterfly wings to give the device an attractive appearance. The safety pin enables the holder to be fastened to the garment of the user.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be 'imderstood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A holder of the class described comprising a pair of semi-cylindrical members, tongues formed on the rear edge of each member, a safety pin around the stationary bar of which the tongues are bent to hingedly connect the members with the safety pin, a spring on said stationary part of the safety pin having its ends engaging the members for forcing the members toward each other and wings on the outer edges of the members, the hinge parts being located within the space formed by the two members whereby such parts will'engage an object placed in they holder and hold the same against longitudinal movement through friction.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
