amnion IPIJQATE' This invention relates to anchor plates, particularly adapted for use in building construction for securing face plates to their wall openings. Heretofore such plates have 5 been secured to the wall by expansion bolts and the like making direct connection therewith which proves very unsatisfactory because they tend to break or crack the plaster thereby allowing their plates to sag and become loose. It is an object of this invention to provide a supplemental plate which may be anchored in the plaster wall and secured in position and to which the face plate may be conveniently attached.
lVith the foregoing in view the invention resides in novel construction hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a View showing a face or pipe expansion plate mounted on a wall parts being broken away for purpose of illustration; Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the anchor plate before insertion; Fig. 5 is a sectional View similar to Fig. 2, but showing the method of mounting the anchor plate into the hole in plaster wall; Fig. 6 shows the sheet metal blank which has been sheared preparatory to bending the tabs from same; Fig. 7 shows a modified form of shearing to form the tabs from the blank.
Referring now to the drawings and particularly to Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 5 the usual plaster wall 9, is shown comprising the rough plaster 10 supported by the metal lath 11 and covered by the finishing coat of plaster 12 an opening 13 is provided in the wall thru which may pass a pipe 14;. The hole 13 is of much larger dimensions than the diameter of the pipe to allow for movement of same due to expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes, and as will be appreciated by those familiar with the art, an expansion plate 15, is secured to the wall to cover the hole 13 in plaster and to allow the pipe 14 to pass thru. The expansion plate 15, comprises an outer plate 16 to which is slidably mounted an inner plate 17 which fits the pipe 14.

Fig. 4, and solid line, Fig. 2, whereby the anchor plate is secured in final position framing the opening. The finishing coat of plaster 12 may then be applied to the wall and overlying the anchor plate face as indicated in Figs. 1 and 3.
Thereafter when the expansion plate is to be mounted, it is applied to the wall in final position and, using the same as a template, the anchor plate face is perforated as by a center punch thru the expansion plate screwholes.
The expansion plate may then be secured to the anchor plate as by means of steel wood screws 21 which cut their own threads in the anchor plate as turned therethru, or of course the anchor plate perforations may be tapped and the expansion plate secured by machine screws.
In the modification indicated in Fig. 7 the general arrangement and operation is as before, except that four pointed tabs 22, 23, 24 and 25 are formed, each of which may be bent to fit the particular opening to which the anchor plate is applied.
What I claim is:
1. An anchor plate for the purpose described and comprising a sheet metal plate having a face punched through to form a central rectangular opening with tabs extending from opposite ends of the opening,
one of said tabs being bent medially ofits length to hook over an edge of a wall opening to be framed by a wall plate, the opposite tab being adapted to be similarly bent to similarly engage the opposite edge of thewall opening whereby the anchor plate may be manipulated to insert the first tab in final position and the secondtab thereafter bent to secure'the anchor plate in final position, with its face against that of said wall about said wall opening.
2. Building construction comprising a wall. having an opening, a sheet metal anchor plate 7 having a face'portion and a corresponding opening therein with tabs at opposite ends of its opening, said tabs being bent around the corresponding edges of said wall opening to secure said anchor plate with its face portion framing said'wall opening, a plaster coat on said wall and overlying said anchor plate face, a face plate overlying said anchor plate opening, and screws passing through said face plate and plaster coat and turned into said anchor plate face portion to secure said face plate. 7
