I This invention relates to fuses and is directed more particularly to electrical fuses embodying venting means to permit the gases to escape when the fuse link melts.
' The primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel and 1m roved fuse construction embodyin venti atin passages of suflicient lengt to effective y cool the gases before they are dischar ed to the atmosphere and thus reduce the re hazard to a minimum.
Another object is to provide a fuse of this character whlch shall consist of few-parts 'that are simple in construction and inexpen 15 sive to manufacture and which may be easily and quickly assembled.
With these and other objects in view, the invention may be stated to consist in the-various novel features of construction and arran ement or combination, all of which will be ully described hereinafter and pointed out in the appended claims.

A knife blade contact 5 having a reducedortion 6 that is formed with a serrated surace rojects through an aperture 7 in the cup s aped member and the edges defining this aperture are serrated as clearly shown in Fig. 4' so that a snug fit-is insured betweenthese elements. Disposed within the cup shaped member 2 are a pair of disks 9 and 10 WlllCh are formed with serrated openings 11 and 12 respectively to interfit with the serrated surface of the knife blade con-* tact. The peripheral edges of these disks are enga d with the internal thread 3 of the mem er 2 and define a spiral vent passage 13. From the fore oing descrgition, it W111 be apparent thatt ecup sha e member 2, disks 9 and 10, and knife bla e contact 5 form a unit assembly. o
The disk 9 is formed on opposite faces thereof with tortuous grooves 14 and 15 which are similar to groove 4, and in a sim-' ilar manner one face of disk 10 is formed 1 with a tortuous groove 16. The grooves 4.- and 14, and grooves 15 and 16 cooperate to form a vent assage which communicates at the inner en through lateral ports 17 with 75 the spiral assage, 13. - In use, when fuse link 27 melts, the gases generated are vented at each end of the fuse y passing through spiral passage 13 and ports 'and 26 to the atmosphere. Venting is also accomplished by some of the gases in s' iral passage 13 passing through ports 17 once grooves 15, 16 and port 18 to grooves u 4, 14 and ports 19 and 26 to the atmos here.
In assembling the fuse each cup s aped member 4 is pressed on the reduced portion 1 6 of the knife blade contact and the disks 9 7 so 30 having :1. rolled threaded portion defining an interior spiral passage 31 and an exterior spiral assae 32. In this form of my invention I ave lllustrated three disks 33, 34 and 35 which have intercommunicating tortuous es'36 similar tothose described in connection with disks 9 and 10. In other respects the fuse construction is similar to that previous] described in connection with Fi 1. Gases also pass through interior spiral passage 31 thence through the tortuous passages 36 in the-disks and orts 26 to the atmosil phere. A fuse of the character set, forth comprising a body portion, a cup shaped member positioned within each end of said body portion, aknife blade contact projecting through I each cup shaped member, a fuse l1nk interconnecting said contacts, means positioned within each .cup shaped member and defining an elongated vent passage communicating with the interior of said'body ortion,

8. A unit assembly for a fuse comprising 5 a cup shaped member, a knife blade contact projecting through said cup shaped member,
a plurality of disks engaged over said con tact and positioned within said member, said disks, member and contact having interenm gaging serrated surfaces.
