Lawrence E. GoeZZer Patented Feb. 7, 1933 UNITED STATES LAWRENCE E. GOELLER, OF CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO GOLLAPSIBLE STOOL Application filed October 30, 1931.
This invention relates to stools and more particularly to collapsible stools of the type commonly known as camp stools.
The object of the invention is to provide a stool of the character indicated of improved and simplified structure.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel connecting member for the legs of such a stool embodying means for assuring the correct operation of each leg and restricting its movement within the intended and proper scope.
Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described.
Two sheets of drawings accompany this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Fig. l is a side elevation of the improved stool in open position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the improved stool closed.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view with the seat partly broken away.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal cross section taken on line ll of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal cross section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank forming the connecting member.
Fig. 7 is a perspective of the connecting member bent into finished form.
In the drawings, is illustrated a stool comprising a plurality of legs 1, associated in pairs by pivot pins 2. Each leg has at its top a ring 3, and the rings of oppositely disposed legs are connected by straps 4, which intersect substantially at the center and above the pivot connection.
A seat 5 of fabric or other suitable material is supported by straps 4. and may be conveniently sewn directly to said straps.
The improved connecting member 6 (see Figs. 6 and 7) consists of a cross shaped blank having arms or leg members 7, each of said Serial No. 573,890.
arm or leg membersbeing provided with an orifice 8 and with a lateral projecting lug 9, preferably formed with a bevelled edge 10. Such blanks are formed by bending arm or leg members 7 into parallel spaced relationship, thus forming a substantially rectangular body with the orifices 8 of oppositely disposed sides 7 in alignment and adapted to receive and support the pivot pins 2. In this form it will be noted that each of the lugs 9 is disposed at a spaced distance from the orifice 8 of its respective side and with the jtzglevel l0 directed generally towards the ori- In operation, it will be noted from Figs. 4 and 5 that the lugs 9 engage through their bevelled edges 10, the legs 1 when the stool is in closed position and positively limit the rotation of each leg with respect to its pivot.
Various modifications will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim:
