IMPR OVEME NT IN ENVELOPES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,588, dated May 8, 1877 application filed August 24, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM SEXTUS HOLDING, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, and in the State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising-Envelopes; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and t0 the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an envelope, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my en- Fig.2 is a similar view of the envelope open.

My envelope is cut from a single piece of paper, so as to form the body Gr, end flaps A B, and side flaps D E.

The end flaps A B and side flaps D are made square, covered as shown, while the outside side flap E is made in triangular form.

The entire inner surface of the envelope, as well as the outer surfaces of the end flaps A B, may be divided in suitable spaces, and have advertisements printed thereon.

The end flap B is provided with a perforated projection, U. The side flap E is also provided with a similar projection, F.

In closing the envelope the flap A is first turned down, and then the flap B, with its projection U overlapping the same. The side flap D is then folded over, and, lastly, the flap E. The projections (land 1* are provided with mucilage for sealing the envelope.

These projections enable the envelope to be opened without injury to the advertisements within.

H is a slip of paper, having one corner I perforated and fastened by mucilage to the inside of the envelope. This forms a ready means for communication, and the slip can easily be detached when desired, and filed away without the envelope.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, in an envelope, of the body G, end flap A, end flap B, with perforated projectionU, bottom flap D, top flap E, with perforated projection F, and the slip H, with perforated corner I, all constructed as shown and described.
