IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,688, dated June 5, 1877; application filed March 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, L. W. LILEs, of Jackson, Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 isa perspective view of a plow Fig. 2 is a rear view of the plow. Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
My invention relates to an adjustment of the set of the plow, either deep or shallow and it consists in the general construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter explained and claimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents the plow- Fig. 1, and the standard is pivoted to the beam by the bolt (I. To the rear end of the beam is secured a grooved plate, E, and against this grooved plate is fitted the rear standard (3, also constructed with grooves g, fitting into the grooves in the plate E, as shown in Fig. 2. The standard is held in position by the screw-bolt e passing through slotted opening e made in the upper end of the standard 0 and the screw-nut n, as shown in Fig. 3. By means of the slotted opening 6 the standard 0 may be raised or lowered to adjust the set of the plow, and, when properly adjusted, the screw-nut forces the grooves of the standard into the grooves of the plate E, and the plow is held securely in position. The rear standard O is also constructed with the offset 0 to bring the body of the standard centrally under the beam when secured in position.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The pivoted standard B, provided with the circular-faced lug D, and the slotted standard (J, provided with the grooves g, in combination with the beam A, provided with the grooved plate E, all constructed to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
