Abstract
The FIREPLACE HEARTH PAD is a configuration of rectangles that contour a raised surface. Used to provide protection, this form covers the flat top, a pivot within the form continues the protection, covering the outer most protruding edge. Another pivot within the form allows the coverage to continue for the front vertical portion of a raised surface. Sections of the like, adjoined side to side, provide protection for the most extended of raised surfaces. The top, middle, and bottom segments, which make up the form, can be independently removed leaving remaining segments and sections undisturbed.
Description
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to a form for padding and covering a hard raised surface with edges.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- Previous protection from a hard raised surface and its edges is limited. The options are bumpers that attach to the edges of a raised surface, a quilt thrown over the top and sides, or a hard apparatus to round the sharp protruding edge.
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,183,030 is a quilted throw for the top and sides of a raised surface.
- U.S. Pat. No. 6,513,662 is a guard for rounding a sharp edge.
- U.S. Pat. No. 2,867,015 pads and rounds the top, edge and front of stairs.
- U.S. Pat. No. 4,787,366 is an attachment for protection form the edge and vertical front of a raised hearth.
- U.S. Pat. No. D309777 is a bumper attachment for a raised hearth.
- People enjoy a raised fireplace hearth within the home. The dangers to toddlers, small children, and the elderly are obvious. The combination of a hard, rough surface and the protruding edges pose a safety hazard.
- In the past we have thrown a blanket or quilt on top of the raised surface. We also try attaching foam bumpers to the outer most edging. These methods provide a small amount of protection and can be unsightly.
- The FIREPLACE HEARTH PAD provides a protection that contours to a raised surface. This protective covering is for a flat top, outer most edge, and vertical front. A configuration of rectangles long, short, long contours a raised surface when in a formed shape. Sections of the like adjoined side to side give coverage for the most extended of raised surfaces. A segment of this configuration can be removed. The remaining segments are undisturbed.
-
FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of a FIREPLACE HEARTH PAD showing the pad in a flat position. -
FIG. 2 is a front perspective view, the back perspective view being an identical. -
FIG. 3 is a side elevation view. The opposite side being an identical. -
FIG. 4 is a cross-section view taken along line 4-4 inFIG. 2 . -
FIG. 5A is a front perspective view of sections of the like adjoined side to side. -
FIG. 5B is a front perspective view showing a single section removed, leaving remaining sections undisturbed. -
FIG. 6A is a front perspective view showing a single top segment of a section removed, leaving remaining adjoined segments and sections undisturbed. -
FIG. 6B is a front perspective view showing a single front segment removed, leaving remaining adjoined segments and sections undisturbed. - The FIREPLACE HEARTH PAD is a configuration of rectangles long 20, Short 22, long 24. The rectangles being on both inside and outside of a folding
joint 28. The form is indented withkeystone shapes 30, at the joints. Akeystone shape 30 allows the form to have a pivot action whereby the shaped form of rectangles contour to the flat top, outer most edge, and vertical front of a raised surface. Interior of the formed shape is of foam or a substance of the like 26. - Used for Cushion and Solidity.
- Sections,
FIG. 5A , of the like adjoined side to side, by a means of attachment, cover the most extended raised surfaces. A single sectionFIG. 5B can be removed, leaving the remaining adjoined sections undisturbed. - Segments,
FIG. 6A , 6B, of rectangles long, 20, short, 22, long, 24, adjoined by a means for attachment can be removed independently, leaving the remaining adjoined segments and sections undisturbed.
Claims (3)
1. coverage for a raised surface comprising: a complex long-short-long configuration of rectangles on both the inside and the outside of the form indented by keystone shapes at the joints wherein;
coverage provides protection by contouring to the flat top, outer most edge, and vertical front of a raised surface.
2. A configuration of long-short-long sections according to claim 1 adjoined side to side provide coverage for the most extended of raised surfaces wherein;
a section can be independently removed opening desired portion of the raised surface leaving remaining sections of the like undisturbed.
3. The long-short-long segments of configuration according to claim 1 adjoined one to another can be independently removed wherein;
segments and sections remaining are undisturbed.
