Description

    TECHNICAL FIELD
  • The present invention relates to a disposable toilet used; in outdoor activities such as driving, camping, and fishing; in civil engineering and construction sites where there are no permanent toilets; in disasters as earthquake and the like.
  • BACKGROUND ART
  • Generally, one would need to use the disposable toilet to eliminate solid and liquid body waste in places where there are no permanent toilets; such as outdoor activities like driving, camping and fishing; such as civil engineering and construction sites; or in emergency disasters such as earthquake. Various portable toilets used in such situations have been proposed in the related art.
  • Among them, the portable toilets share the characteristics of structure comprised of seat and/or collection pail or bucket of sturdy enough construction necessary to support body weight while maintain their shape not only while in use, but also when stored or transported. Absent from the current art are devices that accomplish the objective which do not contain these characteristic and which are suitable for a single use and subject to easy disposal.
  • DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION Problem to be Solved by the Invention
  • Current portable toilets are somewhat bulky and unsightly which does not lend itself to easy, convenient or desirable storage in the various places that they would be used. Potential users of portable toilets can be reluctant to keep such devised where they are visible and since they are bulky, they are hard to store and transport in the limited space available while: hiking, driving, or fishing; driving to remote construction sites with a vehicle full of required materials for tasks to be performed at the site; or available in mass to meet the needs of a natural or manmade disaster.
  • The sanitation necessity for proper disposal of solid and liquid human waste in these environments needs a better solution offered by an ultra-light weight, highly compact, easily stored, easily transported self-contained disposable single use toilet. Absent the present invention, no such solution exists. The present invention weigh only a few ounces, is under 1.5 inches in thickness and less than a foot in diameter which can be easily an unobtrusively stored and transported in all the environments mentioned including a hiker's backpack leaving plenty of space for the other necessities of hiking.
  • Means for Solving the Problems
  • In order to achieve the above aim, the invention of the disposable toilet according to claim 1 includes an impermeable bag (1) configuring a collection pouch; an annular frame (2) accommodating impermeable bag forming a collection pouch hanging down from within the frame; (3) the outer surface of the mid-portion of the bag rests across the upper surface of the frame; and (4) with upper portion of the bag hanging down from the outer edge of the frame, the frame thus holding the collection pouch in an open position, wherein the user may grasp the opposing sides of the frame; wherein the user while standing in a squatting position, positions the frame across their buttocks area and pushes or releases their fecal and/or urinary waste into the collection pouch as it is held open by the frame; wherein upon completion of waste elimination, user can pull the upper portion of the bag up and wherein there is sufficient length to the upper bag for it to be swirled or twisted and tied in a knot sealing in the waste and odor for disposal in an appropriate manner, place or receptacle. Prior to use, the device is compacted into a space of less than a foot in diameter, less than 1.5 inches thick.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention concerns that of a disposable alternative to a portable toilet or portable potty for both children and adults (hereinafter referred to as “the device”). Sometimes it is not feasible to use a public restroom when nature calls and a more immediate and rapidly available solution is required. Portable potties can serve some of this need but their use is limited because they are cumbersome to store and inconvenient to transport due to their bulkiness and weight. The device is a self-contained impermeable bag fused, adhered or otherwise attached to an annular frame (resembling a toilet seat with a gripping edge or handles). The bottom portion of the bag extends down through the frame forming a collection pouch with the top portion of the bag extending up through the frame, across the top of the frame with the surplus upper bag material gathered at the outer edge of the frame and held in place by a ledge, lip, ridge or pocket at the outer edge of the frame permitting the bag material covered top surface of the frame to be hand held from its edges against the buttocks area (similar to the positioning of a toilet seat) with the frame holding the bag open for the easy collection of body waste. The bag may or may not be lined with an absorbent padding. The frame can be constructed (in a concave manner or with handles) so that it can be easily gripped to hold the device against the buttocks while spreading feet comfortably apart and squatting to a comfortable level (or even kneeling) to push and release body waste into the bag. When complete the top portion of bag is pulled up from the securing frame ledge, ridge, lip or pocket where a sufficient amount of the upper part of the bag is pulled up twisted and then knotted sealing in body waste and its odor. Now the device is ready to be easily and safely transported and disposed of into an appropriate waste receptacle. Before use, the ready to use device is stored relatively flat and weighs only a few ounces. The ease of storage and convenience of transport of the device dramatically expands the range of uses versus currently available portable potties.
  • The novelty of this device is sufficient to warrant its own unique descriptor name. By comparison; a toilet is fixed in place, attached to permanent plumbing and is not moveable from the surrounding structure in which it is located. It is also arguably not sanitary from one user to another. A portable toilet or portable potty is generally not connected to permanent plumbing, it may or may not be connected to a surrounding structure and is moveable but inconvenient to store or transport since it is bulky and may weigh several pounds. Like the toilet, it is also arguably not sanitary from one user to another. The device weighs only a few ounces, is relatively flat making it easy to store and transport and is designed to be completely sanitary and disposed after a single use. For these reasons it is not just a toilet nor is it simply a portable toilet or potty. It warrants its own descriptor; “take-with-you” disposable toilet. Anything consisting of an annular frame for placement over a person's buttocks in conjunction with a capture bag for placement over a person's buttocks is considered as a manifestation of this invention.
  • There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the device that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the device that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the device in detail, it is to be understood that the device is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The device is capable of other embodiments and being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of descriptions and should not be regarded as limiting.
  • As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the device. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regarded as including such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
  • It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a disposable alternative to a portable potty which has most or all of the advantages and none of the disadvantages of a portable potty.
  • It is another object of the present invention to provide for uses that are not efficiently served and in some cases not served at all by portable toilets, portable potties and similar products.
  • It is another object of the present invention to provide a disposable alternative to a portable potty which may be easily and efficiently manufactured, marketed and distributed.
  • It is another object of the present invention to provide a disposable alternative to a portable potty which, while lacking in bulk and weight, is of safe and reliable construction.
  • It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a disposable alternative to a portable potty which is significantly more economically affordable and available for relevant market segments of the purchasing public.
  • Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent from the following detailed description of the preferred embodiment when considered with the attached drawings and appended claims.

  • DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • An ultra-light weight, compact, easily stored, easily transported self-contained disposable toilet (hereinafter referred to as “the device”) comprised of a plastic or other impermeable material bag fastened to or otherwise used in conjunction with an annular frame where the function of the frame is to hold the bag open and enable the inside of the opened bag to be positioned by the user against the user's buttocks so that gravity will cause eliminated body waste to drop or flow into the bag. When the elimination of body waste is completed the bag is deep enough to have sufficient material above the eliminated waste and frame to twist and tie in a knot completely sealing in the eliminated body waste and its odor which can then be disposed of in an appropriate receptacle.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1—Illustrates side, top and bottom views of annular frame part of the device
  • FIG. 2—Illustrates side view of the device with top of bag pulled down across top of annular frame
  • FIG. 3—Illustrates a side view of the device with bag full length and open at top
  • FIG. 4—Illustrates a side view of the device with the top of the bag knotted to seal in contents
  • FIG. 5—Illustrates a person using the device while squatting
  • FIG. 6—Illustrates a person using the device while kneeling
  • FIG. 7—Illustrates a person using the device while lying in bed
  • The device is 1 an impermeable bag (which may or may not be lined with an absorbent padding) and which may or may not be fused, adhered or otherwise fastened to 2 an annular frame (made of plastic, cardboard, paperboard, pressed cornstarch or other similar type materials) in such manner that the closed bottom portion of the bag extends down through the hole 2 a in the annular frame forming collection pouch la. The open top portion of the bag lb extends up through the hole 2 a in the annular frame being stretched across the frame upper surface 2 b, 2 c in such manner as the frame holds the mid portion of the bag open with the open upper portion of the bag stretched back over, around and down the outer edge lip 2 d of the frame. The excess material of the top portion of the bag is gathered and held in place below the frame by a lip 2 d of the outer frame thus maintaining the opening for the entire upper end of the bag and holding it out of the way during use. The upper surface of the frame 2 b, 2 c permits the interior side of the bag to be held open and applied against a person's buttocks area while the exterior portion of the bag is, for sanitary reasons, shielded from contact with the person's buttocks area. The underside of the annular frame 2 forms a pocket 2 e between the outer edge lip 2 d and the inner hole ledge 2 c so that it can be easily gripped by the person placing their fingers under the lip 2 d to hold the device against their buttocks while spreading feet comfortably apart and squatting to a comfortable level to push and/or release body waste into the collection pouch la. Toilet tissue and wet wipes can be supplied with the device for cleaning and when finished thrown into the collection pouch la. The upper portion of the bag lb can then be pulled up from the behind annular frame lip 2 d where an ample amount of the upper part of the bag lb has been securely gathered within the annular frame pocket 2 e between the outer edge lip 2 d and the inner hole ledge 2 c the annular frame. The upper end of the bag lb can then be swirled or twisted and then knotted 1 c sealing in body waste and its odor. The device is then ready to be easily and safely transported and disposed of into an appropriate waste receptacle. In versions where the frame is not fastened to the bag, the frame can be thrown into the bag before twisting, tying and disposal.
