The invention relates to a combination waxing and polishing instrumentality for household and allied uses.
The main object of the invention is to provide a waxing pad and a polishing cloth combined in a. manner that will facilitate their use; and, in fact result in a compact package adapted to be attractively put up for handy use and sale.
Another object of the invention is to provide an absorbent pad, preferably of cellulose, which lpad on one surface is impregnated or coated with Wax and constituting the wax applicator when exposed, Asaid pad being folded into a cheesecloth, or other polishing cloth, wrapper to form a handy package. Y
Other objects will no doubt become apparent to those skilled in this art as the disclosure is more fully made. 1
These desirable objects are achieved by the preferred form of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a general plan viewV of the assembled waxer and polisher unfolded;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal central sectional view through the unfolded device taken along the line 2-2 of Figurel, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 3 is another sectional view along the same line 2 2 but showing the package folded; and,
Figue 4 is a plan view, similar to Figure 1 but showing a square polishing cloth wrapper instead of a rectangular cloth.
The improved combined waxer and polisher comprises an absorbent pad I0, preferably cut square, and formed of cellulose. Said pad is of a substantial thickness, as shown and has one surface II, coated or impregnated to the desired depth, as shown at I2, with a suitable polishing Wax. The material of the pad being porous lt absorbs quite a dense coating of wax which preferably impregnates the pad to about one-third of its thickness.
The opposite surface of the pad is then placed centrally upon a cheese, or other, cloth strip i3 comprising a polishing clothrand wrapper for the pad i0. The pad is then attached as indicated at I l by glue or stitching to said cloth i3 to combine the two vmain parts and hold them together in such a manner that the ends of the cloth I 3 may be folded over each other and over the pad I D as shown in Figure 3 to form a handy package in which the pad is prosurface I2 whereupon tected when not in use, from the ingress of dirt and the like, and for convenient storage.
The form of Figure 4 is substantially the same as above described except that the cloth I3 is square and may be folded up over the pad from all four sides thereof in an obvious manner.
In use the cloth ends I3 are folded back from the position shown in Figure 3 to that shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4. This exposes the waxed the user who grasps the device in his hand may apply the wax by rubbing said surface I2 on a surface to be waxed. Thereafter the cloth I3 is brought into play to serve as a, polishing cloth which cloth I3 is available to serve its function either when unfolded as in Figure 2, or when folded to the position shown in Figure 3.
From this disclosure it will now be seen that a handy waxer and polisher has been provided which simplifies the operation of waxing and as it obviates the necessity of separately applying a wax to the surface to be the wax is already contained in a pad combined with a polishing cloth. The thickness and size of the pad I0 is such that it forms a good hand hold piece providing a broad iiat surface useful in both applying the wax and in using the polishing cloth, thus insuring the greatest emciency.
It is the intention to cover herein all such changes and modifications of the illustrative example disclosed which do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention covered by the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A waxing and polishing device comprising a piece of polishing cloth canying on one surface a cellulose pad lying flatly on said surface, said pad being of substantial thickness and having its surface away from the cloth impregnated with a wax, said impregnation forming a coat of wax extending part way into the pad, the cloth being larger than the pad and adapted to be folded to serve as a wrapper for the pad, said cloth when unfolded causing the impregnated surface of the pad to be exposed for direct Contact with a surface to which Wax is to be applied.
2. A unitary waxing and polishing device comprising a relatively large piece of polishing fabric, a relatively small porous pad lying flatly on said fabric in a. position substantially centrally disposed thereon between its edges, said pad being of substantial thickness with its exposed top surface impregnated with a wax, the impregnation extending part way into the pad to leave its opposite face contacting the fabric free of wax, means for attaching the under or wax free face of the pad to the fabric to secure the pad and fabric together, the portions of the fabric which extend beyond the edges of the pad adapted to be folded over the pads waxed surface to protect same when not in use and adapted to be folded back to expose the waxed surface when the pad is to be used for waxing, said fabric serving as a polishing cloth.
3. A combined unitary waxing and polishing member comprising a sheet of polishing fabric, a porous pad of relatively smaller size carried atly on said fabric sheetl with edge portions of the latter projecting beyond edges of the pad,
said pad having its surface adjacent the fabric sheet wax free and attached thereto to position the same in fixed relation to the fabric sheet,
said pad having its exposed or top surface im-
