IMPROVEMENT IN COLLAPSIBLE DRINKING-CUPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,227, dated J one 3, 1879; application filed October 15, 1878.

have invented a new and Improved Collapsible DrinkingUup, of which the following is a specification. 7
My invention relates to that class of drinking-cups that can be compressed into a small compass for convenience in carrying by travelers, sportsmen, and others; and it consists in a frame-work made of a coiled metal spring in the shape of a cup, to which a covering or body of rubber or other suitable material is so applied as to completelyenvelop the frame The coiled-spring frame is tapered from the top to the bottom, to allow the coils to fold within each other when the cup is collapsed.
The drawing represents a side view of my invention, in which A represents the cup when in position for use. B represents the springframe, which is formed of an elastic wire having a flat coil at each end, which is made fast to the body of the wire, the other coils being collapsed and hold it flat; but in practice I may use any other suitable means for that purp0se.-
By this plan I make a cup that meets the requirements of the traveler or sportsman, it being water-tight, reliable in its action, instantly compressed into a thin flat package easily carried in ones vest-pocket, and as quickly released, when it has -the requisite elasticity and rigidity to assume the proper shape for use. It is not liable to breakage or leakage, as is the case with cups made in parts intended to telescope into each other, and requires no manipulation to get it into shape for use, is light, and easily and cheaply made.
I am. aware that collapsible drinking-cups and other articles have been made, and I do not claim as my invention, broadly, the use of a collapsible construction; but,
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a collapsible drinking-cup composed of a spiral elastic wire frame, B, embedded as a core in the rubber forming the body 0, and provided with a fastening device, D, substantially as herein shown and described.
