9 Claims.
My invention relates to bath tubs. Reference is hereby made to my design Patent No. 109,713 'for design features shown but not claimed herein.
An important object of the invention is to provide a bath tub that conforms with the sitting posture of a person sitting in a chair.
Another object is to provide a tube having a depression at the bottom of the tub to conform with a person's body sitting on the bottom.
n Still other objects are to provide upwardly inclined depressions at the sides of the tub, between the flrst-mentioned seat and the bottom of the tub, for receiving a person's legs, and to provide feet depressions in the bottom of the tub.
1.; A further object is to provide a shower for a bath tub that is built into the tub and thus eliminate an overhead shower and permit the taking of a shower bath while sitting in the tub, without wetting ones head and hair.
Still another object is to provide means for defleeting the shower spray downward toward the body of a person in the tub.
The invention also comprises novel details of construction and novel combinations and arrangements of parts, which will more fully appear in the course of the following description.
In the drawing, like reference characters designate similar parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a bath tub embodying features of my invention.
Flgure 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of 45 vides a back for the seat 8.
Between the bottom It of the tub and the seat 8 are upwardly inclined depressions l2 and I3, adjacent the side walls I4 and I5 of the tub respectively. These depressions are to receive a 50 persons legs. Feet depressions l6 and II are provided at the foot of the leg depressions l2 and I3 respectively.
Between the feet depressions i6 and I1 on the bottom l0 of the tub is a concave seat'l8 to con- 55 form with the body of a person-sitting therein.
and 3| tipped downward, to direct downwardly shoe shaped shower isan effective cleansing rims 26 and 21, together with the downwardly shower pipe downward to avoid wetting the user's I head and hair.
A drain pipe I9 is provided at the forward end of the tub, which is closed by a plug 20 fastened on a chain 2| attached to the forward wall 22 of the tub.
The forward wall 22 flares forwardly, as suggested at 23. I
An overflow drain pipe 24 has an inlet 25 in the upper portion of the tub. overhanging rims 26 and 21 along the sides of the tub at the top project toward each other. The undersides 28 and 29 1 of said rims are concave, with the outer edges 30 spray from a shower hereinafter described.
Groove portions 32 and 33, longitudinal of the tub, at either side thereof and underneath the l overhanging rims 26, 21, are connected with each other by a horizontally curved groove portion 34. A shelf connects the rims 26 and 21 at the forward end of the tub and overhangs the curved groove portion 34. The groove portions 32, 33 g and 34 together form a single, continuous groove that is horseshoe shaped in plan. Disposed in this groove, which as an entirety is numbered 36, is a shower spray pipe 31, also horseshoe shaped in 7 plan. The pipe has small openings facing inward with regard to the tub, whereby they may emit spray upon a person seated in the tub.
Pipes 38 and 39. are preferably connected to supply hot and cold water to the shower pipe 31. Valves 40 and 4| control the water flow in said 3 pipes 38 and 39 respectively. Manuals control the valves.
Valves 42 and 43 control the discharge of hot and cold water into the tub by nozzles 44 depending from the shelf 35. Pipes 46 and 41 respectively connect with the valves 42 and 43. The portions of thepipes 46, 41 nearest the valves are within the shelf 35, which is hollow. Manuals 48 control the valves.
Pockets 49, 50 and 5| may be formed in the upper surfaces of the rims 26 and 21, for the reception of wash cloth, soap and cigarette ashes.
The use of the tub is believed apparent from the foregoing. The bather may use both seats l8 and 8 at different steps in bathing. In the use of the seat 8, the user's legs may rest in the depressions |2 and I3, and the user's feet in the depressions I6 and I1.
When the user is sitting in the tub, the horsemeans, while the concavities 28 and 29 under the tipped edges 30 and 3|, direct the spray from the Water may also be supplied tothe tub by nozzles 44 in the usual manner.
After use of the tub, water that has collected in the seats 8 and I8 and in'the depressions l8, I1 may easily be wiped outby a cloth. I While I have illustrated and described what I new regard as the preferred embodiment of my invention, the construction is, of course, subject to modifications without departing from the spirit of my invention. I, therefore, do not wish to restrict myself to the particular form of construction illustrated and described, but desire to avail myself of all modifications which may fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bath tub having a U-shaped inner surface considering the front end and the sides thereof, and a U-shaped shower pipe extending around said end and along said sides, the pipe the having spray openings directed toward the opposite side of the tub.
2. A bath having a Lia-shaped groove extending across the front end and along the sides of the tub, and a U-shaped shower pipe disposed in and conforming to said groove, the pipe having spray openings directed toward the opposite side of the tub.
3. A bath tub having an overhanging U-shaped rim, portions of which project inward toward each other, and a U-shaped shower pipe extending around the tub under the overhanging rim, the pipe having spray openings directed toward the opposite side of the tub.
4. A bath tub having an inwardly overhanging U-shaped rim, and a U-shaped shower pipe extending around the tub under the overhanging rim, the pipe having spray openings directed toward the opposite side of the tub, and the underside of the rim being concave to direct downwardly spray from said openings.
5. A bath tub having inwardly overhanging rims along the sides of the tub, and pipe means extending along under the rims, the pipe means having spray openings directed generally toward the opposite side of the tub, and the edges of the rims being tipped downwardly to direct downwardly spray from said openings. 6. A bath tub having an inclined bottom and having a longitudinal concavity extending below said bottom, to provide a seat for a person sitting in the tub, and shower means to discharge a spray upon a person sitting in the seat.
7. A bath tub having an inclined bottom ending in a drain opening and having a longitudinal concavity extending below said bottom, to provide a seat for a person sitting in the tub.
8. A bath tub having a recess along a side of v the tub, facing the opposite side of the tub, and
pipe means wholly contained within and extending along in said recess, the pipe means having spray openings disposed to direct spray generally toward the opposite side of the tub.
9. A bath tub having an overhanging member projecting toward the opposite side, and pipe means extending along under said member, the
pipe means having spray openings directed generally toward the opposite side of the tub, the overhanging member extending out at least far enough to overhang the entire diameter of the pipe means.
