MILLARD F. LEMONNIER, OF IDA GROVE, IOWA.
SIEVE FOR THRASHlNG-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 240,152, dated April 12, 1881.
Application filed October 27, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, lVIILLARD FILLMORE LEMONNIER, of Ida Grove, in the county of Ida and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Sieves for Thrashing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a portion of the improvement. Fig. 2 is an underside plan view of a portion of the improvement. The object of this invention is to furnish sieves for thrashing-machines so constructed as to cause the air-blast from the fan-blower to act more effectively to clean the grain than sieves constructed in the ordinary manner.
The invention consists in constructing a sieve for thrashing-machines of a board threefourths of an inch (more orless) in thickness, having holesfrom three-eighths to four-eighths of an inch in diameter formed through it, and havinginclined grooves formed in its lower side at the sides of the holes toward the fanblower, whereby the air-blast. will be guided into and deflected through the said holes, as will be hereinafter fully described.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The sieve is made of a board, A, of the required length and breadth and three-fourths of an inch thick. The board A is perforated with numerous holes B, from three-eighths to four-eighths of an inch in diameter.
Upon the lower side of the board A, at the (No model.)
sides of the holes B toward the fan-blower, are formed short inclined or tapered grooves O, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
With this construction the grooves 0 will act as guide-channels for the air-blast coming from the fan in the direction of the arrows, Fig. 2, so that a larger amount of air will pass through the holes B than with sieves constructed in the ordinary manner. The thickness of the board A will cause the blast of air guided into the holes B by the grooves G to be deflected upward, so as to strike the grain more directly, and thus blow off the chaff and other light impurities more elitectively than when sieves constructed in the ordinary manner are used, so that the grain will be cleaned fast and thoroughly.
Having thus fully described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A sieve for thrashing-machines,constructed substantially as herein shown and described, consistingof aboard, A, having holesB formed through it, and having inclined grooves 0 formed in its lower side, upon the sides of the holes B toward the fan-blower, whereby the air-blast will be guided into and deflected upward through the holes B, as set forth.
