This invention relates to useful improvements in clothing guards applied to office furniture, and more particularly to that of office desks as a protection for stockings or other clothing of a silklike texture worn by vocational employees or others while working at the desk.

A further object of this invention is to form a guard to cover roughened surfaces and corners of the desk legs which an occupant will encounter during time of service in an office or elsewhere at a desk or other like furniture. The form of the guard being of suitable length while its cross section is of such form as required to extend around the exposed sides and corners of a desk leg or other structural surroundings where an occupant for service is seated or positioned otherwise.

A further object of this invention is to construct a guard made from material that may be stamped, moulded, or otherwise integrally formed to avoid sharp corners and to provide a smooth uninterrupted surface, also a material that may be secured by adhesive substance to th furniture to avoid the use of screws, nails, or the like, preferably plastic material being relied upon and said material being colored as an ornamental trimming or of a color to correspond with the material from which the furniture is manufactured, or may be transparent.

These and other objects will hereinafter be more fully explained, reference being had to the accompanying drawing that forms a part of this specification, and in which like characters will apply to like parts in the different views.

As a more concise description of the drawing, it will be seen that the invention is preferably applied to a conventional ofiice desk having two vertically disposed stacks of drawers 2 slidable on suitable rails 3, the said stacks being spaced apart horizontally and having a single drawer 4 therebetween, the top of said drawer bein positioned on a plane with the upper extremity of the said stacks of drawers and a top 5 to lie on the top of the upper rails and being secured thereto, and the said drawer rails being carried by outer and inner corner posts 6 that extend downward from the drawers to space the same from a floor level and the inner pairs of corner posts being spaced apart to provide sitting space A for an occupant while at work at the desk. Being so positioned, the adjacent corner posts and rail member 6 beneath the single drawer are often encountered unconsciously by the occupant at the mercy of stockings, or other clothing of a silk-like texture that is instantly marred in most cases beyond repair by sharp corners or roughened surfaces that is a common occurrence to furniture in course of time. To avoid such disaster to clothing above referred to, the defects of the furniture as pointed out are overcome by the application of my invention prior to or after such defects occur. Therefore, I have provided guards for the posts and rails consisting of a channel-like structure comprising a web 8, legs 9 and m, respectively, leg 9 being shorter to engage against a panel H of the desk and the said panel being so engaged by leg 9 to avoid contact with its terminal edge and its corner of the post while leg I!) laps well across the front of the corner post and terminates with a thin blunt edge B to avoid a rough terminal edge for said leg Ill.

It will be seen that an outer corner of the post as at C is circular in cross section while the adjacent corner of the guard conforms thereto for a continuous contact for the application of an appropriate adhesive substance and a similar precaution is arranged for the guard and its application to rail member 3, and in this instance the corners are square in cross section. t will be understood that guards may be manufactured in lengths greater than required if so desired as the materials employed are easily severed and smoothed, however certain styles of furnitur will establish stock lengths for the guards, so that the ends may be sloped and smoothly finished, the

latter being preferred and such modifications may be made as lie within the scope of the appending claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a clothing guard for a desk, a covering for exposed corners of a desk structure, the covering being made from plastic material comprising an element channel-like in cross section, the channel consisting of a web and legs integrally joined to the web, the legs extending to the same side of the web and being in parallelism, the outer edge of one leg terminating at right'angle to its sides, the other leg sloping for a portion of its width on its outer side toward its terminal edge and from thence extendin inward to the other side of the leg, said channel-like member adapted 3 to straddle exposed corners of the desk structure and be frictionally retained thereon.

2. In a clothing guard for a desk as an article of manufacture, a covering for the exposed edges of a desk structure, the covering being made from plastic material comprising a channel-like element, the channel consisting of a web and legs integrally joined to the web, the legs extending to the same side of the web with some convergence, the outer edge of one leg terminatin at right angles to its sides, the other leg sloping for a portion of its width on its outer surface toward its terminal edge and extending from thence in- Ward to the other side of the leg, the said channel-like element to straddle exposed corners of a desk structure and be frictionally retained thereon.
