Application December 28, 1944, Serial No. 570,087
3 Claims. 1
The invention has particularly to do with means for making it easy and certain of maintaining a clean and sanitary bath tub, and it accomplishes this by the means for carrying the water around the top of the tub, with nozzle means for discharging the water into the tub, but discharging it on the wall thereof in such a manner that the wall is kept clean and free from Water and soap marks or lines.
I have also provided a detachable top rail or cover member having corrugated form to prevent the hand from slipping when a person is getting out or getting into the tub.
I have shown in the accompanying drawings, one practical embodiment of my invention, which I will now describe.
Figure 1 is a top plan view, looking down into a bath tub embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical, longitudinal sectional view through said tub, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view, showing how the top rail is attached to the top of the tub, and also showing the spacing of the nozzle means for discharging the water into the tub; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3, showing the water channel and the nozzle construction.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the bath tub is designated 5, and it has formed or moulded around its upper edge a water channel 6, with pipe connection at l for connecting a supply of water thereto. This Water connection can be at any place and in any form and whereby hot and cold water can be directed into said water channel 6. A series of flange elements areshown formed thereon, designated 8, and adapted to suppport a top rail or hood 9, having spaced lugs, as at 9', to fit over said flange elements, as shown, whereby said top rail or hood is held in place, and at the same time can be removed for any purpose.
I have shown a special water nozzle for connecting into said water channel 6, as indicated in Fig, 4, for the purpose of discharging the water down over the inner wall of the tub, as indicated. This nozzle structure has an attaching shank l0, which can be threaded or otherwise secured in place, with an inside wall or bafile 2 I I which, with the body 12 overlying said wall or bafile, converges at its lower edge with an inner lip portion [3, to form a restricted outlet opening at l4 for fOIClng water in a spray of width, instead of being round, so as to cover a considerable area of the inner Wall of the tub. It is intended that these nozzles will be sufficiently numerous, and of such spread extent in the discharge of the Water, that the surface of the tub will be covered and kept clean by the force of the water forced through said nozzles.
I am aware that attempts have been made to provide a water channel around the top of a tub with opening for shower purposes, when a person is in the tub, but my invention is not for Shower purposes, but for the purpose of sanitation and easy cleaning of the inside of a bath tub whenever water is turned on and discharged thereinto.
I am aware that changes in the details of construction and arrangement can be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and I do not, therefore, limit the invention to this detailed showing, except as I may be limited by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A bath tub having formed integrally around its top a water chamber with means for connecting a source of water supply therewith, a plurality of discharg nozzles connected with said water chamber on the inner side thereof and directed downwardly on the inner sides of the tub proper, whereby to clean the same as well as to supply water to said tub, said nozzle havin an elongated and restricted discharge opening to give increased force and spread to cover the inner surface of said tub.
2. A bath tub having formed integrally around its top a water chamber with means for connecting a source of water supply therewith, a plurality of discharge nozzles adapted to be connected into said water chamber on the inner side thereof and directed downwardly on the inner wall of the tub, said nozzles each having an inner wall forming a water trap for retaining a quantity of water in said water chamber and said nozzles, and through which Water must flow to the discharge opening of said nozzle when the supply is directed into said chamber.
3. A bath tub having formed around its top REF RE CES CITE The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
