2 Claims.
My invention relates particularly to supporters adapted especially to be formed as a part of garments such as are frequently called shorts and as part of garments such as swim suits or trunks but which can be sold separately.
Accordingly, I provide a special adjustable yoke, formed of two bands with connecting straps secured thereto either permanently or detachably.
The main object is to provide a convenient and comfortable garment with adjustments for proper abdominal support for protection of the wearer, to relieve muscular strain and ensure a better posture and appearance. Another object is to provide a supporter which can be embodied in an undergarment or swim suit which can be worn and laundered in the same way as ordinary undergarments.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a garment embodying one form of my invention looked at from the front.
Fig. 2 is a rear View of the upper part of the garment.
Fig. 3 is a view of the main right hand part of the band with the extension which passes around the body and overlaps the main left hand part of the band.
Fig. 4 is a face view of the main left hand part of the band with the extension which passes around the body to overlap the main right hand part of the band.
The yoke consists of the two band sections I and 8 each of which may be made of one or more pieces and attached to the upper edges of leg sections 3 and ID of shorts or trunks. The band sections are much deeper at the main front portions I I and I2 where suitable fastening devices I3 are provided than at the ends I4 and I5 which pass around the sides of the body. One band section, in this case section 8, passes through a slot I6 in section 'I. A placket or fullness I1 is provided in the leg material to permit circumferential adjusting of the arment.
The ends I4 and I 5, which for convenience may be called extensions of the sections I and 8, are guided and positioned by the straps I8 and I9 carried by the band sections 8 and I respectively.
The adjustment of the yoke is effected by one or more straps connected to the ends I4 and I5 of the band sections, the number and position of these straps dependin upon the size and shape to be accommodated.
In the form shown, two adjustable straps 20, 2| are attached to the end M of band section I and provided with slide or tongue buckles '22 and 23 and anchored to loops 24 and 25 which are attached to the front end of band 8 between its upper and lower edges. Similarly two adjustable straps 2B and 21 are attached to the end I5 of band section 8 and provided with slide or tongue buckles 28 and 29 and anchored to the loops 30 and 3| attached to the front end of band I between its upper and lower edges. By adjusting these straps the desired lifting pressure may be effected independently near the upper or lower edges of the yoke.
I may also provide one or more straps to pass around the abdome n for instance by adjustably connecting the ends I4 and I5 across the front of the abdomen such as the straps 32 and 33 having a suitable buckle 34.
These various straps provide means for localizing or distributing the necessary supporting lift. They also distribute the strain on the garment.
All of these adjustable straps may be formed as integral parts of the fabric constituting the band sections of the yoke, or they may be separately formed and attached to the band section either by stitching or detachably, so that they may be removed and replaced when desired. This makes it possible to remove the straps when the garment is to be laundered. A garment may be provided with two or three sets of detachable straps so that one or more may be used and the others omitted when desired.
Additional security and adjustment may be provided by a strap 35 and buckle 36 at the upper edge of the yoke.
I wish it to be understood that the garment may be formed of any suitable material and provided with stiffening or reinforcing material such as is suitable in garments of this character. The buckles used for connecting the various straps may be of any suitable type.
I claim:
1. A pair of trunks having a yoke with depending leg portions and having two band portions with broad abdominal lifting portions fixed to the lateral edges of the band portions and with coacting fastening devices for joining the edge of the yoke at the front, said garment havin a vertical slot at the back of one of the band portions, said band portions having extensions passing around the sides and having adjustable strap and buckle portions connectable at the front across the respective broad ends, one extension passing through said slot.
2. A pair of trunks having a yoke with depending leg portions and having two band portions with broad abdominal lifting portions fixed to the lateral edges of the band portions and with coasting fastening devices for joining the edge of the yoke at the front, said garment havin a vertical slot at the back of one of the band portions, said band portions having extensions passing around the sides and having adjustable strap and buckle portions connectable at the front across the respective broad ends, one extension passing through said slot, said extensions having independently adjustable coacting strap and buckle members at their upper and lower edges.
MOSES COHEN.
