4 Claims.
Our invention relates to improvements in undergarments for men.
Our invention relates more particularly to improvements in a combination support and drawer of the type worn by dancers, athletes and others who engage in certain exercises or occupations which involve strenuous bodily activity.
One of the principal objects of our invention is to provide an improved garment of the type described which combines all the desirable features of an abdominal support, drawers or shorts and a suspensory.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment of this type that combines in the drawer or trunk section a vertical stretchment so that in active movement of the limbs there will be no binding either at the crotch or around the limbs.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved abdominal support and drawer garment in which the stitching is smooth and conforming to the natural body lines.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved trunk garment of the type having a suspensory which possesses body adhering qualities without requiring underslung elastic crotch tapes, thereby effecting more freedom to the limbs of the wearer.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved garment of the type described in which the trunk section prevents the abdominal support section from drifting or moving upwardly due to the fact that the two sections are secured together.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved fiy construction in garments of the type described which affords both support and protection and forms in combination with the trunk section of the garment a suspensory or pouch.
Other objects and advantages will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying two sheets of drawings, upon which Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the garment upon a wearer;
Fig. 2 is a generally full size fragmentary crosssectional view through the fly and suspensory section of the garment taken generally on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 2-A is a fragmentary view showing the juncture between the front and back sections of the trunk portion;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the garment as removed from the wearer and ying n a flattened position; and
Fig. 3-A is a fragmentary front view of the garment at the fly section, with parts broken away to more clearly show other parts.
In the embodiment of the invention which we have chosen to illustrate and describe, we have shown the combination support and drawer as consisting of a section I 9 which is the abdominal support section, and a trunk section [2 which may have the two leg openings l4 and I6 therein.
The section It! is preferably formed of an elastic material having the inherent qualities of stretching both vertically and horizontally, being known in the trade as a two-way stretch, and is provided with a hem ll adjacent its upper end. It will be noted that in the normal or unstretched condition of the same there is a slight outward taper from the top opening I3 to the lower edge I5 at which point it is attached by a seam [B to the trunk section I2.
The trunk section l2 as previously describ d is provided with the leg holes l4 and [6, the same being provided with elastic reinforcing bands 20 and 22 which fit snugly around the limbs of the wearer. The trunk section I2 is made of two parts, a front part [2a which is preferably made of an elastic material that has the inherent quality of being capable of being stretched only in a vertical or lateral direction, as shown in position on the wearer, it being adapted to generally fit snugly about the front of the lower trunk of the wearer, but permitting stretching in an up or down direction. The back part I2?) is preferbly made of an elastic material capable of longitudinal stretchment so that it may accommodate buttocks of various sizes. The trunk section may also be somewhat fuller than the abdominal section, and connected to the same with occasional gathers, as shown.
The fly section 24 of the garment is unique in that we provide the usual fly opening 26 in the trunk section l2 and a built-in suspensory constructed of a generally trapezoidally shaped strip 28 sewed to the front of the trunk section and a similarly shaped strip 30 sewed to the back of the same for a purpose which will presently be apparent. The opening 26 is formed by the reinforced edge 26a starting at the lower edge l5 of the abdominal support section, extending downwardly at a diagonal therefrom, then forming a loop 2% and extending upwardly to effect a crossover and being attached again to the edge I5 at 260.
Since the reinforcing strips are sewed to the trunk only at their top and bottom edges, the side openings permit access to the fly opening along the edges of the suspensory strips 28 and 30.
We have found that with this construction there is additional protection tothe wearer in that the possible inconvenience or discomfort of an open fly is entirely eliminated. In addition, as can be seen in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3-A, the provision of the strips 28 and 30 shown provides in effect a pouch or suspensory for the wearer, thus eliminating the necessity and discomfort of a separate suspensory or pouch with its attendant underslung elastic crotch tapes necessary to hold shapes and sizes of individuals and have the tendency of remaining in position during use.
While we have illustrated and described a specific embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made in the exact details shown, and we do not wish to be limited in any'particular; rather what we desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States is fully set forth in the claims appended hereto.
We claim:
1. A combination support and drawer having an abdominal support section and a trunk section, said abdominal support section constructed of an elastic material capable of stretching both longitudinally and laterally, said trunk section formedof two parts, the front part constructed of an elastic material capable of stretching only laterallyand having a fly section formed centrally thereof,1the back. part formed of a material capable of stretching only longitudinally, and means associated with said trunk section forming a suspensory, said means including non-elastic strips secured to said trunk section and covering the fly opening in said trunk section on both the inside and on the outside thereof.
2. A combination support and drawer having an abdominal support section and a trunk section, said abdominal support section constructed of an elastic material capable of stretching both longitudinally and laterally, said trunk section formed of two parts, the front part constructed of an elastic material capable of stretching only laterally and having a fly opening centrally thereof and the back part formed of a material capable of stretching only longitudinally, and means associated with said. trunk section forming a suspensory, said means including two nonelastic strips connected to the front and to the back of said trunk and covering the fly opening in said trunk section on the inside and on the outside thereof, said strips being trapezoidally shaped and sewed to the trunk section along their top and bottom edges only.
3. A combination undergarment for men which combines therein an abdominal support section, a trunk section having a fly opening and means forming a'suspensory in said trunk section, said fly opening having a reinforced edge starting at the lower edge of the trunk section, extending downwardl at a diagonal, then forming a loop and extending back to effect a cross-over and attaching to the lower edge of the trunk section, said suspensory effected by providing trapezoidally shaped reinforcing and protecting pieces over the front and the back of said fly opening, one edge of the trapezoidally shaped piece being unsecured to the trunk permit access to or egress from said fly opening.
r 4. A combination undergarment for men which combines therein an abdominal support section, a trunk section having a fly opening and means forming a .suspensory in said trunk section, said fly opening having a reinforced edge starting at the lower edge of the trunk section, extending downwardly at a diagonaL'then forming a loop and extending back to effect a cross-over and attaching to the lower edge of the trunk section, said suspensory effected by providing trapezoidally shaped reinforcing and protecting pieces over the front and the back of said fly opening, opposed vertical edges of the trapezoidally shaped pieces being unsecured to the trunk to permit access to or egress from said fly opening.
