Claims. (Cl. 248-103) This invention relates in general to new and useful improvements in baby accessories, and more specifically to a novel nursing bottle holder.

Although when a baby is first born it is necessary for the mother to hold the bottle for the baby and to check on the feeding of the baby so as to prevent choking of the baby, when the baby becomes older he is able to feed from the bottle without danger of choking and it is necessary for the mother to hold the bottle only in order to retain the bottle in the proper position with respect to the babys mouth. much of the mothers time is consumed in holding the babys bottle whereas otherwise it would not be necessary should there be provided means for supporting the bottle with respect to the babys mouth.

Therefore, it is the primary object of this invention to provide an improved nursing bottle holder which is constructed whereby it may be properly positioned relatively to a baby to hold a nursing bottle in position whereby the nipple of the nursing bottle may be conveniently gripped in the babys mouth for feeding therethrough.

Another object of this invention is to provide an improved nursing bottle holder which includes a bottle holder having means for efliectively clamping the bottle therein and at the same time permitting ease of removal of such bottle.

Another object of this invention is to provide an improved baby bottle holder which includes a bottle holder in the form of a bottle supporting frame, the bottle supporting frame being carried by a support suitably attached to an article of baby furniture and being rotatable with respect to the baby furniture.

A further object of this invention is to provide improved clamp means for a nursing bottle holder, the clamp means being interchangeable and being of such a nature whereby it may be clamped to any type of baby furniture.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a preferred form of the nursing bottle holder attached to the vertical rungs of the babys crib and supporting a bottle in position for feeding a baby;

Figure 2 is an enlarged top plan view of the bottle holder of Figure 1 and shows the same clamped to the vertical rungs with the crib of the rungs being shown in section, the open bottle receiving position of the bottle neck engaging portion of the bottle supporting frame Inasmuch as a baby feeds slowly,

Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the bottle supporting frame and shows the general details thereof;

Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of an improved clamp means intended to be secured to a supporting panel or surface;

Figure 6 is another modified form of clamp means intended to be utilized in combination with baby carriages and the like; and

Figure 7 is an enlarged perspective view of a further form of clamp means, this clamp means being intended to be secured to a portable bassinet or other type of baby bed having a horizontal frame member to which the bottle holder must be attached.

Referring now to the drawings in detaiLit will be seen that there is illustrated in Figures 1 through 4, inclusive, a preferred form of the present invention, the bottle holder being referred to in general by the reference numeral 10. The bottle holder 10 includes a bottle supporting frame, which is referred to in general by the reference numeral 1 2. The metal supporting frame 12 is carried by a baby furniture engaging support which is referred to in general by the reference numeral 14.

As is best illustrated in Figure 4, the bottle supporting frame 12 includes a first wire member 16 bent at its center to provide a depending bottle neck engaging portion 18 having an enlarged lower part 20 and a reduced upper part 22. The wire member 16 also includes a pair of spaced legs 24 lying in a plane generally normal to the plane of the bottle neck engaging portion 18.

The bottle supporting frame 12 also includes a wire member 26. The wire member 26 is doubled upon itself to form a pair of spaced legs 28 which are connected together by an integral depending loop 30. Those portions of the legs 28 immediately adjacent the intersection with the loop 3i) are wound about the legs 24 as at 32 to connect the wire member 26 to the wire member 16. Closing the upper portion of the loop 30 is a cross bar 34 which extends between the legs 24.

As is best illustrated in Figure 1, when a baby bottle,

such as the baby bottle 36 is carried by the bottle supporting frame, that portion of the baby bottle 36 which is normally the bottom part thereof is received in the loop 30. At the same time the neck of the bottle 36 is received in the neck engaging portion 18. In order to provide proper clamping of the neck of the bottle 36 by the neck engaging portion 18, there is extended between and connecting together the legs 24 adjacent the intersection with the neck engaging portion 18 a clamping strap 38. The clamping strap 38 is slidable in the legs 24 to provide separation of the upper part of the neck engaging portion 13 so as to increase the effective width thereof and permit the ease of insertion of the neck of a baby bottle in the neck engaging portion 18. This position is best illustrated by dotted lines in Figure 2. After the baby bottle 36 has been properly positioned in the neck engaging portion Iii, the clamping strap 38 is then again slid along the legs 24 toward the neck engaging portion 18 to close the same and to effectively clamp the neck of the baby bottle 36.

The furniture engaging support 14 includes a bottle supporting frame supporting assembly which is referred to in general by the reference numeral 46. The supporting assembly 40 includes a mounting plate 42. secured to the upper side of an elongated bar 44 and projecting horizontally therefrom. Overlying the mounting plate 42 and rotatably journalled on a fastener 45 carried thereby is a supporting plate 46. The supporting plate 46 has received therein the ends of the legs 24 and 28, as is best illustrated in Figure 2.

Overlying the supporting plate 42 and carried by the fastener 45 is a spacer or washer 48 which has bearing against the same an enlarged portion 50 of an arm 52. The arm 52 includes an end portion 54- rem-ote from the large portion 50 which is secured to the mounting plate 42 by a fastener 56. The enlarged portion 5th includes an upwardly projecting boss 58 which is seated in a knob 60'. The boss 58 and the knob 60 are internally threaded and are threadedly engaged on the upper end of the fastener 45. The enlarged portion S is secured to the knob 60 by suitable fasteners 62. Thus, the arm 52 retains the knob 60 in an adjusted position on the fastener 45 so as to provide the proper friction between the arm 52 and the supporting plate 46 as well as between the supporting plate 46 and the mounting plate 42 so that the supporting plate 46 may be rotated at any desired position and be maintained therein to support the bottle supporting frame at its desired angle.

In order that the supporting assembly 40 may be clamped to a babys crib having vertical rungs 64, there is associated with the bar 44 a clamp bar 66. The clamp bar 66 is disposed in spaced relation with respect to the bar 44 and the rungs 64 are disposed therebetween. Extending between the bars 44 and 66 and adjustably clamping the two towards each other are fasteners 68.

Inasmuch as the bar 44 may be vertically adjusted as desired on the rungs 64, it will be readily apparent that the entire bottle holder 10 may be vertically adjusted as necessary with respect to the baby crib to a baby, such as the baby 70 of Figure 1, may conveniently feed from the bottle 36.

Referring now to Figure 5, it will be seen that there is illustrated clamp means for use in combination with an article of baby furniture having a solid panel. The clamp means of Figure 5 are referred to in general by the reference numeral 70 and includes a first clamp bar 72 and a second clamp bar 74. The clamp bars 72 and 74 are disposed in closely adjacent spaced relation and are retained together by fasteners 76. The fasteners 76 are carried by the clamp bars 72 and extend through the a fastener 82 intended to be received through the bar I 44. The brackets 78 are vertically adjustable with respect to the clamp bars 72 and 74 so as to permit vertical adjustment of the supporting assembly 40 once the clamp bars 72 and 74 have been positioned.

Referring now to Figure 6 in particular, it will be seen that there is illustrated another modified form of clamp means which is referred to in general by the reference numeral 84. The clamp means 34 is intended to be utilized in conjunction with a baby carriage and the like. The clamp means 84 includes a pair of spaced, aligned inverted U-shaped brackets which are referred to in general by the reference numeral 86. Each of the brackets 86 includes a pair of spaced legs 88 and 90 which are connected together at their upper ends by a bight portion 92. Adjustably carried by the legs 88 are fasteners 92 which secure to the legs 88 a connecting bar 94.

The clamp means 84 are intended to he slipped over a side of a carriage. in order that the side of the carriage may properly be clamped, there is carried by the legs 88, clamp members 96 in the form of elongated clamp screws.

Carried by the lower portions of the legs 90 and vertically adjustable with respect thereto are fasteners 98. The fasteners 98 are intended to have removably en- J gaged thereon the bar 44 so that the support assembly 40 may be secured to the clamp means 84.

Referring now to Figure 7 in particular, it will be seen that there is illustrated a still further form of clamp means which are referred to in general by the reference numeral 100. The clamp means 100 includes two pairs of clamp bars 102. The clamp bars 102 are provided with a plurality of vertically spaced apertures 104 to which fasteners 196 are adapted to be passed. The

. fasteners 1% are utilized to clamp the clamp members 192 together so that the clamp means 100 may be rigidly clamped on a horizontal frame member. The horizontal frame member may be part of the bed or may be part of a bassinet or baby carriage.

in addition to the fasteners 1-36, the clamp bars 102 are provided with elongated fasteners 114. The fasteners 114 are of a length to have received thereon the bar 44. Thus, the clamp means 100 is readily adaptable for use with the support assembly 40.

The relationship of the bottle holder with respect to a child being fed is such that milk is urged into the nipple to prevent a child from sucking air. Also, it is necessary that the child when feeding have his head turned to one side so that if he should cough or choke he will automatically turn his head away from the bottle. By so positioning the bottle, the baby may feed or sleep as desired without the necessity of the bottle being placed back in his mouth. Further, although the bottle is securely mounted to prevent dropping and breaking, it may be conveniently swung to an out of the way position.

From the foregoing, it will be readily apparent that through the use of the various clamp means described and illustrated the bottle holder 10 may be utilized with any of the many types of articles of baby furniture in which a baby is intended to rest.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A nursing bottle holder comprising a bottle supporting and furniture engaging clamp support, including a horizontal mounting plate, a pivotal support plate on an upper surface of said mounting plate, a vertical fastener including an enlarged head in engagement with the lower portion of said mounting plate and a threaded end extending through said pivotal support plate for permitting horizontal pivotal movement between said plates, fastener elements secured to the threaded end of said vertical fastener overlying said pivotal support plate, friction means extending between said fastener element and support plate on said Vertical fastener including a portion secured on said horizontal mounting plate, an elongated bottle support frame extending laterally from said pivotal support plate for horizontal pivotal movement therewith, said bottle support frame including a first pair of spaced leg portions terminating in downwardly extending portions substantially normal to the plane of said legs, said downwardly extending portions being connected by an enlarged lower portion for receiving the neck of a nursing bottle, a second pair of spaced leg portions each extending from said pivotal support plate adjacent a first leg portion, said second leg portion extending over said first leg portions and terminating in an enlarged loop disposed in an elevated position relative to the enlarged lower portion of the first leg for supporting a nursing bottle in an angular position adjacent a nursing baby, means disposed on said first leg and enlarged portion for urging said first leg portions together at said enlarged portion for clamping the neck of the nursing bottle therein, an elongated bar transversely disposed on the lower portion of said horizontal mounting plate including transversely spaced apertures therein, and clamping means including fastener elements extendable through said apertures for clamping said nursing bottle holder to a suitable support.

A nursing bottle holder set forth in claim 1 wherein said clamping means includes a bar including a plurality of transversely spaced apertures for alignment with the spaced apertures in the bar transversely disposed on the lower portion of the horizontal mounting plate, and removable fasteners extending through said aligned apertures for clamping said nursing bottle support to a suitable support.

A nursing bottle holder as set forth in claim 1 wherein said clamping means includes an elongated vertically disposed bar including an elongated longitudinal slot extending therethrough, a plurality of fastener elements extending laterally through said bar for connection to a support surface, a plurality of U-shaped bracket elements each including one leg portion extendable through the longitudinal slot in said bar member, and a second leg portion having fastener elements extending transversely therefrom for insertion through the transverse apertures on the elongated bar on the lower portion of the horizontal mounting plate.

A nursing bottle holder as set forth in claim 1 wherein said clamping means includes a pair of U-shaped bracket elements connected, at the lower ends of one leg portion by a transverse connecting bar, said leg termi- 30 nating in a bight portion and a second leg portion, fastener elements extending transversely from said second leg portion for insertion through the transverse apertures on the elongated bar on the lower portion of the horizontal mounting plate, and an adjustable clamping means transversely disposed on said first leg portion of each bracket between the bight portion and the connecting bar.

A nursing bottle holder as set forth in claim 1 wherein said clamping means includes a plurality of pairs of vertically disposed clamping bars, a plurality of vertically disposed aligned apertures in each of said bars, removable fastener elements extendable through said aligned apertures for securing said bars to a horizontal support, and fastener elements extending transversely from one of said clamping bars for insertion through the transverse apertures on the elongated bar, on the lower portion of the mounting plate.
