United States Patent REMOTE CONTROL EXTENSION Wilby Askerneese, 1340 Stambangh Ave., Sharon, Pa.

1 Claim. (Cl. 307-38) This invention relates to an electrical device and more particularly to a remote control extension by means of which several electrical devices may be supplied with power and their operation controlled from a common control point.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a remote control extension of Simple electrical construction.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a remote control extension providing a number of individually controlled independent electrical circuits.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a remote control extension comprising a multiple outlet, electrical adapter and switch circuits controlling each of the outlets of said adapter from a pointremote thereto.
The remote control extension disclosed herein comprises an improvement in the art relating to electrical circuit extension devices such as are used in extending an electrical circuit to a point of use. The present invention comprises such an electrical circuit extension with multiple outlets thereon and to which a plurality of electrical devices may be connected so as to be energized therethrough. Additionally, the device disclosed incorporates a remotely positioned switch panel and a plurality of circuits extending thereto arranged to control the multiple outlets of the remote control extension. Thus a plurality of electrical devices connected with the extension may be individually or collectively controlled by the remote switch panel.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plurality of electrical appliances connected for remote control to the remote control extension.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, with parts broken away, illustrating the remote control extension.
Figure 3 is a schematic diagram illustrating the circuits employed in the remote control extension.
By referring to the drawings and Figure 2 in particular it will be seen that the remote control extension comprises a connection plug having a pair of circuit wires 11 and 12 connected thereto and extending therefrom and leading to a multiple outlet box 13 incorporating a plurality of outlets 14, 15 and 16. A remote control panel 17 is connected by a four conductor cable including circuit wires 11, 18, 19 and 20 with the multiple outlet box 13, and includes a plurality of push button operated switches 21, 22 and 23.
By referring now to Figure 2 of the drawings it will be seen that the circuit wires 11 and 12 are so arranged that the wire 11 simply passes through the multiple outlet box 13 and enters the switch panel box 17 where it is connected to one side of each of the push button switches 21, 22 and 23. The circuit wire 12 is connected with a terminal member 24 in the outlet box 13 and which terminal member 24 comprises one portion of each of the outlets 14, 15 and 16 heretofore referred to. Individual secondary terminal members 25, 26 and 27 comprise the other half of each of the outlets 14, 15 and 16 and they in turn are connected respectively with the circuit wires 20, 19 and 18 which are also connected with one side of each of the push button switches 23, 22 and 21, respectively.
It will thus be seen that when the outlet 14 is to be energized so that an electrical appliance such as a lamp 28 (see Figure 1) may be operated. The push button switch 23 is closed and a circuit between the circuit wire 11 and the secondary terminal 25 is completed by way of circuit wire 20. When the outlet 15 is to be energized so that an appliance such as the radio 29 in Figure 1 may be operated, the push button switch 22 is closed and a circuit completed by way of the circuit wire 19 with the secondary terminal 26. When the outlet 16 is energized so that an appliance such as a television set 30 may be operated, as seen in Figure 1, the push button switch 21 is closed and a circuit completed through the secondary terminal 27 by way of the circuit wire 18. It will be observed that one or all the outlets 14, 15 and 16 may be utilized and that each is subject to the remote control of the respective push button switches 21, 22 and 23.
It will thus be seen that a remote control extension has been disclosed which provides a convenient means for connecting a number of electrical appliances to an electrical circuit and that each of the electrical appliances may be remotely controlled through the remote control panel portion of the device.
It will occur to those skilled in the art that the invention may include a greater or a smaller number of electrical outlets and that in each instance each of the outlets provided is controlled by an individual remotely positioned control switch.
It will thus be seen that the remote control extension disclosed herein meets the several objects of the invention and having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
An electrical extension cord having a plug with connection prongs on one end thereof and a switch box on the other end thereof and an outlet box intermediate said plug and switch box, said outlet box including a plurality of plug-in sockets including spaced terminal members, said switch box including a plurality of single circuit make and break switches and push button means for actuating the same, said extension cord including a first pair of conductors one of which is electrically connected with one of each of the terminal members of each of said outlet sockets and the other one of which is connected with one side of each of said switches and secondary electrical conductors extending between and individually connected to each of the other of said pairs of terminal members in said outlet box with the other side of each of said switches in said switch box.
