1386- 1966 R. H. LETTERLY SHEET ROCK TAPE DISPENSER DEVICE Filed April 15. 1963 w w 9 w 2 mfl Y .J g m im l h wwuu 4 I R 4 WI. 3 M 070 3 m 7 v. r 1 4 g 3 1X? 6 3%) u, 3 $1 I 8% o 3 3 mm gml a 2 3 United States Patent 3,292,575 SHEET ROCK TAPE DISPENSER DEVICE Raymond H. Letterly, Castana, Iowa 51010 Filed Apr. 15, 1963, Ser. No. 273,139 2 Claims. (Cl. 118-405) My invention relates to a sheet rock tape dispenser device.
An object of my invention is to provide a tape dispenser device which will include means wherein the device can be readily attached to the usual structures in a building, etc., and wherein the device is formed in a very compact arrangement.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device in which the spool carrying the tape can be conveniently mounted to the device.
A further object of my invention is to provide an arrangement in which the flow of the paste or such fluid on to the tape will be constant at all times regardless of the angle at which the tape is removed from the device.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of simple construction.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of the device.
FIGURE 2 is a sectional view of the device taken generaly along the lines 22 of FIGURE 1, and
FIGURE 3 is an end view of the device.
My invention contemplates the provision of a device which is conveniently attached to a plank or any existing similar structure and in which the usual tape can be fed through a reservoir containing the paste, etc. so that the tape can be readily applied to the walls and the like of the structure.
Ihave used the character to designate the side walls of a receptacle, said side walls converging downwardly, the character 11 indicating a forward wall, and the character 12 a rear wall. The forward wall 11 includes an opening at 13, and the rear wall 12 includes an opening at 14 through which the tape is to be fed, and the character 15 indicates a vertically adjustable gate being secured by means of the wing nut at 16, the character 17 indicating a slot receiving the stud 18.
The side walls 10 extend into the curled cylindrical portions 19 which are adapted to receive the ends 20 of the laterally spaced rods 21 which merge integrally with the transverse rod portion 22.
Attached at 23 to the rod portions 21 are the portions 24 of the further rods 25 which are attached at 26 to the transverse rod 22, the rods 25 extending into the curved portions 27.
Extending from the walls 10 are the vertically positioned further walls 28 which are attached to the horizontally positioned bottom wall 29 which is the bottom wall of the receptacle. The bottom wall 29 is adapted to rest upon the lengthened block 30, the block 30 including the spaced openings 31 for the reception of the screws 32, these screws being adapted to engage any suitable plank or other arrangement 33 as at 34.
The side walls 28 include the bayonet slots 35 which received the screws 36 which screws are permanently attached to the block 30.
The wall 29 extends into the extending portion 37 which terminates in the teeth 38, and the gate 15 terminates in the lower teeth 38a.
The device is used in the following manner. The standard spirally wound roll of tape is indicated generally by the character 39 which tape is wound on the central core 40, and this spool of tape is first placed over one of the portions 20, the reel supporting structure first being removed, the member 40 being placed over one of the portions 27, these portions 27 also serving to prevent lateral displacement of the spool when being unwound. The portions 20 are then inserted within the portions 19 and the tape is pulled through the openings 13 and 14, and the paste, or adhesive mixture, is poured into the containing vessel between the walls 10 and the walls 11 and 12. As the tape is pulled in the direction of the arrow 41 it then becomes thoroughly coated with the mixture and is ready for application and the required length can be torn olf along the teeth 38.
The lower edge of the gate 15, as explained, can be adjusted upwardly as desired however the lower teeth 38a provide a very important function in that the space between these teeth allows a uniform flow of the adhesive material through the same onto the tape as it is being pulled in the direction of the arrow 41 so that by means of this arrangement the adhesive material will not be scraped off of the tape if the tape is pulled upwardly.
The entire arrangement, as will be noted, can be quickly mounted onto a plank or other structure 33 by first clamping the block 30 by means of the screws 32 to the structure 33, which thereby provides a very thin mounting, and next the open portions 42 of the bayonet slots 35 are placed over the screws 36 and with the unit being moved in the proper direction to cause the screws 36 to be placed into the horizontal bayonet slot portions, the unit then being ready for operation.
It will now be noted that I have provided the advantages mentioned in the objects of my invention with further advantages being apparent.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included Within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
1. A sheet rock tape dispenser device comprising a container for containing an adhesive material, said container including side walls, a forward Wall and a rear wall, and a bottom wall, said rear wall and said forward wall having lower openings for receiving tape therethrough, said rear wall including a vertically adjustable gate member positioned adjacent to the rear wall opening, said gate member having a lower toothed edge to permit a uniform flow of material to said tape, a block, means for attaching said block to a supporting surface, means for attaching said device to said block including bayonet slots formed in said device, screws attached to said block received in said bayonet slots, a tape support attachable to said device including a pair of laterally spaced male rods, said device including female sockets for receiving said male rods, said male rods including a transverse rod portion extending integrally therefrom, said transverse portion adapted to be received within a tape spool.
2. A sheet rock tape dispenser device comprising a container for containing an adhesive material, said container including side walls, a forward wall and a rear wall, and a bottom wall, said rear wall and said forward wall having lower openings for receiving tape therethrough, said rear wall including a vertically adjustable gate member positioned adjacently to the rear wall opening, said gate member having a lower toothed edge to permit a uniform flow of material to said tape, a block, means for attaching said block to a supporting surface, means for attaching said device to said block including bayonet slots formed in said device, screws attached to said block received in said bayonet slots, a tape support attachable to said device including a pair of laterally spaced male rods, said device including female sockets for receiving said male rods, said male rods including a transverse rod portion extending integrally therefrom,
said transverse portion adapted to be received within a tape spool, said tape support including further bars attached thereto, said further bars including curled end portions for preventing lateral displacement of said spool.
