BERNARD GLASSBERG United States Patent 3,381,315 PORTABLE CHILDS TOILET Bernard Glassberg, P.B.M. Parking Corp., 35 E. 38th St, New York, N.Y. 10016 Filed Dec. 2, 1965, Ser. No. 511,045 Claims. (Cl. 4-142) My invention is directed toward portable toilets adapted for use by infants and small children.
It is an object of my invention to provide a new and improved portable childs toilet particularly adapted to be carried in an automobile and to be detachably held in position by a seat belt.
Another object is to provide a new and improved portable childs toilet of the character indicated incorporating a removable disposable self-sealing bag for receiving bodily waste.
Still another object is to provide a new and improved portable childs toilet of the character indicated which is small, lightweight and easily portable.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of my invention will now be explained with reference both to this specification and to the accompanying drawings wherein:
-FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my toilet assembled;
FIG. 2 is a perspective partially cut away view of my toilet partially disassembled;
FIG. 3 is a view through 3-3 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a view through 4-4 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 5 is a rear view of the main body of my toilet;
FIG. 6 is a view through 6-6 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 7 is a view through 7-7 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 8 is a view through 8-8 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 9 is a view through 9-9 in FIG. 8;
FIG. 10 is a top view of my disposable bag;
FIG. 11 is a view through 11-11 in FIG. 2;
FIG. 12 illustrates the self-sealing action of the bag of FIG. 10; and
FIG. 13 is a side view of my toilet as secured to the seat of an automobile and in use.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a vertical hollow cylinder having a top opening 22 centered in the top end thereof and spaced apart from the periphery by a horizontal lip 24. The inner periphery of lip 24 carries a circular horizontal slot 26 adapted to receive the top horizontal rim 28 of a disposable remova- =ble bag 30. The top surface of rim 28 is gummed, glued or otherwise coated by a sealing adhesive covered by a removable protective strip 32.
The front and rear portions of the lip 24 are covered by spaced above and apart front and rear cover portions 34. The front portion 34 is adjacent a detachable latch 36 adapted to engage a prong 40 on another cylinder 38. The rear portion 34 is positioned adjacent a horizontal loop 42 adapted to be engaged by an oppositely disposed loop 44 whereby cylinder 38 can be secured to or removed from the top of cylinder 20.
Cylinder 38 is hollow and can contain medicines, first aid equipment and the like 46, accessible by virtue of a latchable and unlatchable horizontal access door 48 hingedly secured in the center of the top surface of cylinder 38. A handle 56 spans door 48 and is secured to this top surface.
The front portion of opening 22 carries a vertical removable urine guard 50.
In use, cylinder 38 is removed, and cylinder 20 can ice be held detachably in place by seat belts 52 passing through suitable vertical outer loops 54 along the bottom periphery of the cylinder 20. After the bag 30 is properly positioned, a child 60 can be seated on the cylinder and if necessary strapped thereon by the seat belts (FIG. 3).
After the child has used the toilet and has been removed therefrom, strip 32 is peeled away from the bag rim, the opposite halves of the top gummed surface are pressed together to seal the bodily wastes in the bag (FIG. 12) and the sealed bag can then be disposed of and a new bag inserted in the toilet.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination of a portable childs toilet, comprising a first hollow vertical cylinder sealed at the bottom and having a top surface having a central orifice, the periphery of said orifice having a horizontal circular slot, and a bag having an open neck having a peripheral horizontal thickened rim surrounding said orifice, said bag being adapted to be removably inserted through said .orifice into said cylinder with said rim positioned in engagement with said slot, the upper surface of said rim being coated with a sealing adhesive, and a removable protective paper strip detachably secured to said adhesive, said rim divided into half portions whereby the opposite halves of the adhesively coated top surface may be pressed together after use to seal any bodily wastes in the bag.
2. The combination of a toilet as set forth in claim 1 further including a second hollow vertical cylinder, said first and second cylinders having cooperating means whereby said second cylinder can be removably secured to said first cylinder and rests thereabove and in registration therewith.
3. The combination of a toilet as set forth in claim 2 wherein said second cylinder has an access door in the top horizontal surface thereof, the interior of said second cylinder being adapted to store medicines.
4. The combination of a toilet as set forth in claim 3 further including a removable vertical urine protector securable to said orifice periphery.
5. The combination of a toilet as set forth in claim 4 wherein said first cylinder is provided with a plurality of spaced apart vertical loops secured peripherally around the bottom thereof.
