Description

Sept. 23, 1969 E. B. SZEKELY BATHING VESSEL, LIQUID AGITATED BY MULTIPLE JETS OF AIR Filed Oct. 27. 1966 lUTIH llllmllil INVENTOR.
EDMOND BORDE AUX SZEKELY ATTORNEYS United States Patent US. Cl. 4-180 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An elongated bathtub, the bottom wall of which is provided with three sets of jet-type air inlet openings, each set being disposed lengthwise.
The present invention relates to bathtubs for bathing, and more particularly to bathtubs in which jets of the bathing liquid are directed against the body of a person bathing therein.
The bathtub of the present invention includes an open top container having on inlet pipe receiving air adjacent the bottom wall thereof. This wall supports the body of the person, and is provided with jet-type air outlet openings whereby, when air is injected through the openings, streams of the bathing liquid are directed against the body which is disposed within the container.
One embodiment of the invention is disclosed as in the form of a bathtub.
Other features and the advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the bathtub;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the bathtub, looking in the direction of arrows 2-2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of the bathtub; and
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4--4 of FIG. 2.
Reference is made to the drawing and particularly to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3.
The bathtub is shown at 40, having a bottom Wall 42 and side walls 44; the bottom wall is provided with a plurality of jet type openings 46 which are approximately three-eighths of an inch in diameter. The under side of the bottom wall is connected with a series of conduits 48. These conduits are suitably secured to the under side of the bottom wall 42, as is more cleanly shown in FIG. 4.
Air under pressure is delivered to the conduits 48 5 through a pipe 50 which is connected with a source of air under pressure. The air under pressure is delivered from the pipe 50 to a header S2 and one end of each of the conduits 48 is connected to this header. The other ends of the conduits are connected to a second header 53. A drain pipe 54 is connected to the tub, and this pipe is normally closed by a cap or plug 56.
It will be observed that a plurality of sets or rows of Patented Sept. 23, 1969 jet-type air outlet openings are provided and they extend from one end of the tub to the bottom of the slope of the other end of the tub, i.e., lengthwise of the bottom wall 42. When the person is lying in the tub in a liquid bath, and air under pressure is delivered through the jet-type openings 46, the water will be agitated, jets of water will be moved by the incoming air and will impinge upon the body of the person, imparting a soothing massage type action to the body. The center conduit of conduits 48 imparts jets of water along the capillary nerves of the spine for therapeutic effect.
I claim:
1. An elongated bathtub, comprising in combination:
(A) an elongated open top container including:
(1) an elongated bottom wall for supporting a bather lying thereon, said bottom wall having: (a) a plurality of rows of jet-type air outlet openings, each row extending lengthwise of the elongated bottom wall, one of said rows being centrally disposed, (2) side and end walls connected with the bottom wall;
(B) conduit means fixed to and disposed below the bottom wall, said conduit means including:
(1) a header disposed adjacent one end of the bottom wall;
(2) conduits connected with the header and in parallel relationship, each of said conduits registering with all of the jets, respectively, of a row of said jets.
2. A bathtub as defined in claim -1, characterized in that the conduit means includes:
a second header fixed to and disposed adjacent the opposite end of the bottom wall and connected with the said conduits.
3. A bathtub as defined in claim 1, characterized in that one of the end walls slopes upwardly and outwardly of the bottom wall, and further characterized in that the jets and conduits extend to the lower end of the slope of the said end Wall.
4. A bathtub as defined in claim 3, characterized in that the conduit means includes:
a second header fixed to and disposed adjacent the lower end of the slope of the said end 'wall and connected with the conduits (B)(2).
